Good morning! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the Michigan Weather Podcast. It's Tuesday, February 24th.. And a clipper system is about to crash the party.
Folks, step outside right now and you'll feel 16 degrees of false calm. Enjoy that quiet commute. It won't last. A fast moving clipper is already spinning snow across the Upper Peninsula. And by tonight, every corner of this state gets a piece of the action.
Up north is where winter means business. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect right now. Snow cranks up around 10 A.M. And peaks near 4 P.M., when visibility could drop below a quarter mile. We're talking 2 to 4 inches across the region. Near Munising and Rapid River? Up to 7 inches. Winds gusting to 35 miles an hour turn that snow sideways. If you're anywhere near US 2 west of the Mackinac Bridge, rethink the trip. Temps crawl from 9 degrees this morning to just 29 by 7 P.M. Snow keeps falling through 5 A.M. Wednesday.
Now slide south to West Michigan. Your snow window is tight but punchy. Between 5 P.M. And 9 P.M., a concentrated band drops 1 to 2 inches, especially north of I-96 from Muskegon to Big Rapids. Winds shift southwest around noon, gusting to 31 miles an hour by evening. You'll warm from 17 at 5 A.M. To 35 by 7 P.M. Don't get comfortable. Overnight drops you back to 23.
Southeast Michigan, you're catching the leftovers. Snow arrives between 7 P.M. And 11 P.M. With barely half an inch. Detroit and Flint, you'll likely see rain mixing in. Winds shift south southwest around 9 A.M., gusting to 26 miles an hour. The real story? Your temps climb from 16 to 34, then actually rise overnight to 32 by Wednesday morning. Temperature logic has left the building.
Looking ahead, Thursday dries out with mid 30s statewide. Friday's the plot twist. Southeast Michigan flirts with 44 degrees. West Michigan touches 48. Then Saturday's cold front yanks everything back to the 20s and 30s with snow showers. Sunday and Monday stay locked in the upper 20s.
I'll be tracking this clipper all night. Check back tomorrow for the aftermath.
That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow. Take care!
