Show Notes

Good morning! I'm Aaron Jolly, and welcome to the Michigan Weather Podcast. It's Sunday, February 22nd, and winter just pulled a sneaky one on us overnight. Folks, while you were sleeping, a thin coat of snow slipped across the state. Only a tenth of an inch, but that's all it takes. The roads look wet right now. They're not. That's ice pretending to be harmless. Winter Weather Advisories are up across much of Michigan, so you'll want to take it real slow this morning. Down in Southeast Michigan, Detroit and Flint are locked into light snow all day. And I mean all day, straight through 5 A.M. Tomorrow. Highs barely scratch 34 degrees around 3 P.M. By early Monday? Twenty seven degrees with a wind chill near 16. That's the kind of cold that finds every zipper gap. Slide over to West Michigan and Grand Rapids is catching it worse. Winter Weather Advisory runs until 1 P.M. Monday. Highs only hit 30 degrees around noon, then freefall to 21 by morning. Winds gusting to 28 miles an hour are whipping snow into drifts near Lake Michigan. Wind chill by 5 A.M.? Nine degrees. Relentless. Now drive north. Traverse City and the U.P. Are in deep freeze territory. Highs top out at 29 degrees, then crash to 15 overnight. Wind chill hits zero. Marquette and the Keweenaw are stacking up 2 to 4 inches of lake effect snow. Looking at the week ahead, Monday stays bitter. Single digit lows up north, teens downstate. Tuesday a clipper drops another 1 to 3 inches. But here's the plot twist. By Friday, Southeast Michigan pushes near 40 degrees. West Michigan hits 44. Even the U.P. Touches 40 by Saturday, with rain showers possible. Rain. In February. Spring is sending a postcard. One more thing. If this forecast saved your morning commute, share it with a neighbor who needs the heads up. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow. Take care!
