Good evening! I'm Aaron Jolly, and welcome to the Michigan Weather Podcast. It's Saturday, February 21st.
Folks, Michigan woke up under a fresh blanket of snow this morning. And winter's not done writing checks yet. Here's the deal.
Down in Southeast Michigan, you're sitting at a surprisingly mild 40 degrees right now. That's actually above normal for late February. Enjoy it while it lasts. Snow creeps in after midnight, peaking around 4 P.M. tomorrow. Less than an inch likely sticks. Highs tomorrow hit 36 degrees, then temperatures nosedive to 25 degrees by Sunday night. Winds gust to 24 miles an hour. By Tuesday morning? Wind chills in the single digits. Brutal.
Now head west. Here's where things get serious. A Winter Weather Advisory kicks in at 7 P.M. tonight for Allegan, Van Buren, Mason, and Oceana Counties. You're looking at 4 to 7 inches by Monday. The heaviest snow rolls through around 7 A.M. tomorrow. Winds gust to 25 miles an hour tonight, making it feel like 18 degrees. You'll want to keep that shovel by the door.
Drive north and it gets even wilder. A Winter Weather Advisory runs through 7 A.M. Sunday for Emmet, Cheboygan, and Leelanau Counties. Here's the twist. Temperatures actually rise overnight to 27 degrees as warm air sneaks in aloft. Then Sunday night? They plummet to 14 degrees. Wind chills near zero. Monday's highs barely scratch 18 degrees with gusts to 35 miles an hour. Classic Northern Michigan. No mercy.
Here's your heads up for the week ahead. Snow lingers statewide Sunday and Monday. Tuesday brings another round, especially up north. Wednesday and Thursday offer a brief breather. Then Friday surprises us. Highs near 43 degrees in the south. Almost feels like spring is flirting with us. Almost.
Roads will be slick tonight and tomorrow. Take it slow out there. Bundle up if you're heading anywhere.
One more thing. If this forecast helped you plan your weekend, share it with a neighbor. Helps more Michigan folks find us.
Stay safe out there, folks. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow. Take care!
