If you're of the Millennial generation...if you grew up religious...then "Purity Culture" will likely be very familiar to you. This is a movement that began in the 1980's and 90's in religious environments all over the U.S. to encourage sexual abstinence, modesty in dress, traditional gender roles and virginal purity.
As 33 year olds, we are still untangling some of the negative side effects from our psyche.
Today Chase + I discuss the history, dangers, potential benefits, our experience of purity culture, and what we intend to do differently with our future child.
There is no black and white with this conversation. It's full of nuanced gray area. Chase + my intention is to authentically share our honest experience in case you also want to untangle and realign your thoughts and beliefs around sex.
