On today's episode of the podcast we were joined by the founder and CEO of Promix - Albert Matheny. Albert started his journey into the world of health and fitness as a collegiate athlete at the University of Florida, where he ran track and majored in Food Science & Human Nutrition and Exercise Physiology and Kinesiology. His passion for performance and nutrition accelerated him into starting a gym in NY and ultimately his highly regarded supplement company, Promix. We had a great conversation with Albert talking about nutrition, performance, launching businesses, and much much more - enjoy!
- Albert took an unconventional path to starting Promix, getting hands-on experience in food science, receiving nutrition certifications, and even packing protein powder himself early on. This approach gave him deep expertise.
- He focuses on meeting customers where they are - providing better nutrition options rather than trying to totally change behavior overnight. Small changes over time can add up.
- Having autonomy and working with good people who push you are important. Albert enjoys working across multiple brands and projects simultaneously as it fuels creativity.
- Belief is crucial - putting yourself in proximity to success helps build confidence you can also get there. Starting something like a podcast requires just showing up consistently.
- Major shifts happen through everyday products and brands people use, not politics. Albert aims to subtly influence perspectives on nutrition via accessible products.
- Taking smart risks is easier when you have a fallback. The bar to start something like a podcast or social media account is very low today. Getting started can build momentum.
