S1 Ep 51How to Heal a Diagnosis Naturally
How to Heal a Diagnosis Naturally Most people when learning their medical diagnosis put their health in the hands of their doctor, letting them decide what options they should take. What people don’t realize though is you aren’t limited to just drugs and surgery. Your health is your choice, and if you strive to come out on top over your diagnosis, it's imperative you seek out other options such as learning how to heal a diagnosis naturally. In today’s new episode, hear guest host and fellow MaxLiving chiropractor Dr. Cameron Maynard share his story and action steps for how he helped his mother heal naturally from colorectal cancer. Dr. Cameron’s 3 steps for how to heal a diagnosis naturally: Reflect While time doesn’t seem to be on your side after first hearing your diagnosis, Dr. Cameron strongly suggests that you pause and reflect on what likely caused your condition. By doing so, you can pinpoint the interference and take the necessary steps to remove it. If you skip this step, you run the risk of not getting better due to the fact that you might still be implementing poor habits that continue to damage your health. Research After reflecting and being honest with yourself, it’s vital to research all possible options and outcomes of your diagnosis. Don’t just research the common options that you hear most people do - dig deep and search for natural alternatives. Go all in Once you’ve done your research and have a road map of what you plan on doing, the most important step you can take is to go all in completely and commit to your plan. Block out the noise and opinions of those who tell you what you’re doing is wrong and instead, prove them wrong. The best results happen when you give all your effort to it. S1 Ep 50How Chiropractic Can Help Ear Infections
How Chiropractic Can Help Ear Infections Nothing’s worse than seeing your child in pain from an ear infection and not knowing how to help them. In today’s episode, Dr. Ryan and Ashley Berlin discuss how chiropractic care can help ear infections, as well as natural remedies to heal otitis media (ear infections). According to the Boston Children’s Hospital, 80% of children have been diagnosed with at least 1 ear infection by the time they are 3 years of age. The traditional route people take when their child has an ear infection is to take them to a doctor, leaving only 2 treatment options available: antibiotics or tubes put in the ears. Although these may seem reasonable, what you don’t realize is that they aren’t fixing the root cause of the ear infection. Spinal misalignment (otherwise known as subluxation), creates interference such as ear infections in the body. This puts pressure on the nerves causing the ear to not function properly. Dr. Ryan mentions a study published in the Journal of Clinical Chiropractic Pediatrics where researchers found there was a strong correlation between chiropractic adjustments and healing of otitis media. If you know someone who struggles with ear infections, share this episode with them - it could change their quality of life for the better! S1 Ep 36Episode 36 - Building a Strong Health Foundation from the Inside Out
Who to Trust When Making Health Decisions Have you ever wondered why people react differently to the same illness? While most people think the difference depends on how strong the virus is, or which strain they got, it really depends on the overall functionality of the body. The deciding factor which determines if the organs, cells, and systems are going to work optimally is how the person takes care of them. If one individual exercises regularly, feeds their body the right nutrients, chooses not to live in fear, and takes care of their nervous system, their body will function better and heal quicker when they get sick. The person who has a harder time fighting off illness most likely doesn’t take care of their body as they should. They don’t exercise, eat unhealthy food, have more stress, and don’t take care of their nervous system. “Health is built from the inside out intentionally based on what you do,” says Dr. Nick Wilson. If you focus on what you can do to strengthen the functionality of your body on a daily basis, you’ll be well equipped to fight any virus that comes your way. Tune in to episode 36 of The MaxLiving Podcast to learn more about how you can build a strong foundation of health from the inside out. S1 Ep 35Episode 35 - Who to Trust When Making Health Decisions Part 2
Who to Trust When Making Health Decisions Part 2 Let’s face it – everyone makes mistakes. Although, when it comes to making health decisions, these mistakes could be life threatening. In the past, there’s been a lot of health practices and procedures that have been approved, but in retrospect ended up being more harmful rather than helpful. The idea that creating fear to incentivize and manipulate people’s freedom to choose, leads to the biggest question of all, “If something works and protects you, why should I be forced to use it as well?” Most people would agree the body has an innate intelligence and holistic ability to heal, yet the word “natural immunity” is being censored from use. As an individual, community, country, and globally, we have to recognize this pivotal time we live in, and walk the path that will empower us to live a life free of manipulation, toxicity, and most importantly, interference. In this week’s episode of the MaxLiving Podcast, Dr. Nick Wilson and Dr. Traci Gross further discuss who to trust when making decisions about your health. S1 Ep 34Episode 34 - Who to Trust When Making Health Decisions
Who to Trust When Making Health Decisions In this week’s new episode of The MaxLiving Podcast, Dr. Nick Wilson and Dr. Traci Gross talk about who to trust when making your health decisions. Unfortunately, a lot of information people share about health has been censored, making it hard to find the truth. This causes people to trust the first thing they read on the internet, which is concerning since the source of the information might not be credible. According to Dr. Nick, the best way to check if the source of a health claim is credible is to look at that person’s track record to see their outcomes. For example, if you’re trusting the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), you should note that their track record for health in the U.S. is not as it may seem. Dr. Nick mentions that in the past 60 years, our health problem statistics have increased dramatically. He says that “we have the worst health outcomes,” due to the fact that we don’t know what health is or where it comes from. We can fix this problem though by getting curious about our health and finding the root cause of the problem rather than trusting the first thing that pops up on our Google search. At the end of the day, health isn’t defined by how you look or feel, but how you take care of yourself. You have to identify who you trust first, and make your health decisions on what you feel is best for you and your body. By doing so, you can live your best life without limitations! Our MaxLiving clinics across the nation are ready and willing to help you find credible sources you can trust. S1 Ep 33Episode 33 - Don’t Let Symptoms Define You
Don’t Let Symptoms Define You How do you know if you’re healthy or not? Most people judge their health on if they feel great, their numbers are in normal range, or if they look good. The thing people don’t realize though is you can feel great, look good, and have normal numbers, while simultaneously having a disease develop in your body. In today’s new episode of The MaxLiving Podcast, Dr. Nick Wilson and Dr. Traci Gross talk about how to help your body function at its optimal potential through finding the root cause of the problem. Dr. Nick explains that health is “less about how you feel, and more about how you’re functioning.” You may look fine, but if the body isn’t working at 100%, you aren’t going to be the healthiest version of yourself. Symptoms don’t just develop right away – normally, your body loses function for an extended period of time before you develop the symptom. Majority of people take medication to cover the symptom up though, which only ends up being a short term solution. Instead, we have to start questioning what caused the symptom to occur in the first place. Dr. Nick mentions that our healthcare system doesn’t focus on the nervous system when treating illness and disease like chiropractors do – they just focus on the individual part of the body that’s bothering you. Meanwhile, our nervous system controls all health and healing in the body, which is why our MaxLiving clinics look to the nervous system first to find the areas of dysfunction. They do this by taking x-rays of the spine to pinpoint where the problem is, and then come up with a plan for how to fix it. Through specific chiropractic adjustments and exercises to do at home, the symptoms not only begin to become relieved, but the whole body starts to function better as well! If you are struggling with symptoms, don’t accept it as your “new normal” that you have to deal with for the rest of your life. A MaxLiving doctor can help transform your life by finding the underlying cause of that symptom and restoring optimal function in the body! S1 Ep 32Episode 32 - Stay True to Your Beliefs About Health
Stay True to Your Beliefs About Health The world as we know it is divided now more than ever, making it hard for individuals to make decisions about their health without being constantly questioned by others, or hearing opposing messages all around them. If you’re on the fence about how you should approach your health, Dr. Nick Wilson and Dr. Traci Gross suggest that in order to make a decision, you need to get curious and dig deep by doing your own research. In this week’s episode of The MaxLiving Podcast, our hosts discuss how to stay true to your beliefs when making health decisions. The question everyone is wondering is if natural immunity or artificial immunity will protect you best from viruses. Whether you are interested in receiving artificial immunity or not, the reality is, natural immunity will always be there. Whether your natural immunity is strong enough to prevent you from getting sick though, comes down to how you take care of your body. Dr. Nick explains that MaxLiving doctors believe that you can enhance your natural immunity through the 5 Essentials. In order to achieve true health, you have to realize that “nutrition matters, toxicity is a problem, oxygen [and exercise] is crucial, a healthy mindset is vital, and a balanced nervous system is the foundation” to maintaining a healthy body. After doing your own research and understanding what you believe, the best thing you can do is find other like minded people who believe the same as you. By doing so, not only will you realize you’re not alone, but the thousands of people who are on the fence will realize that they are not alone either. “You have a say in your health and when we stand together, we can live the way that we want to live,” -Dr. Traci Gross. Furthermore, you also need to question yourself to see if your actions are truly aligning with your beliefs. For example, if you believe that your natural immunity will keep you protected from viruses, are you taking the correct steps to build your natural immunity up? By asking yourself this question, it will allow you to live the life you desire. Ultimately, “you choose what you believe and you choose how you take care of your body,” -Dr. Traci Gross. We need to band together and use our voice to stand up for what we believe in! NEW FEATURE: Starting this week, you can now ask Dr. Nick and Dr. Traci questions for them to answer on upcoming episodes of The MaxLiving Podcast. To submit your questions, go to https://dr-wilson.com/podcast/ and record your message!

S1 Ep 31Episode 31 - Empower Your Natural Immunity
As we head into the cold and flu season, people are constantly curious as to what they can do to boost their immune system function to prevent harmful viruses and infection. Today, Dr. Nick Wilson and Dr. Traci Gross give you tips for how to strengthen your immunity in order for you to stay healthy. This week’s episode is a more in depth version of episode 26 – Building Immunity Through Your Nervous System. Listen to episode 26 here: https://maxliving.com/podcast/episode-26-building-immunity-through-your-nervous-system/ The most important factor to building immunity is to look at what you’re doing on a daily basis. For example, if you’re eating foods which harm your body such as sugar, your immune system is going to suffer as a result. Since we don’t get all the nutrients we need from food, Dr. Nick mentions a few nutraceuticals that you can take to help prevent infection in your body: Vitamin D3 + Probiotic, Vitamin C, Zinc+, and IM Support. Studies have shown that low amounts of Vitamin D are correlated to increased risk of infection, therefore making it a necessity when it comes to building immunity. Dr. Nick recommends Vitamin D3 is taken with a probiotic to “help with absorption in the gut.” For more information on Vitamin D3 + Probiotics, click here: https://store.maxliving.com/products/vitamin-d3 Vitamin C is an antioxidant, improving the production of white blood cells while also reducing the duration of illness. Dr. Nick mentions to take Vitamin C alongside Quercetin, to assist in actively fighting infection. Click here for more information on Vitamin C: https://store.maxliving.com/products/vitamin-c-complete Zinc is another supplement which can be associated with a reduced immune system function if you don’t get enough of it. Read about Zinc+ here: https://store.maxliving.com/products/zinc IM Support helps to provide a blend of immune supporting nutrients such as echinacea or elderberry. Learn more about IM Support here: https://store.maxliving.com/products/im-support By investing in these high-quality products now rather than waiting until you get sick and opting for sub-par products later, you’ll be more prepared and equipped to fight infection. When you do get sick though, it’s important to take the necessary supplements to assist your body in warding it off with: Vitamin A, Glutathione, and Curcumin. S1 Ep 30Episode 30 - Living the 5 Essentials® Lifestyle
Living the 5 Essentials® Lifestyle In this week’s episode of The MaxLiving Podcast, Dr. Nick Wilson and Dr. Traci Gross talk about how to live your best life through the 5 Essentials. The first essential they mention is “Mindset,” which is key to achieving true health. If you want your health to change, you have to realize that what you were doing before wasn’t working. By making this mindset switch and committing to a new way of living, you’ll be on your way to making a positive change. Read more about mindset here: https://maxliving.com/five-essentials/mindset/ Next, “Minimizing Toxins” is one that people often overlook since they don’t realize just how much of an impact toxins play on their health. Whether it’s the drugs we take, products we use, or food we eat, toxins are extremely harmful. Dr. Nick reminds viewers that “what goes on the skin goes into the body,” meaning that personal care products such as makeup, antiperspirants, and fragrances all can cause harm to the body. Although completely eliminating toxins sounds like a better option than just minimizing your exposure, it’s utterly impossible to get away from them. Toxins surround us in everything we do, whether we know it or not, so it’s important to minimize exposure to the known elements and detoxing your body to get rid of it. Learn how to minimize toxins here: https://maxliving.com/five-essentials/minimize-toxins/ “Nutrition” is the next essential, which focuses on what Dr. Nick calls, “food by God.” Food by god eliminates sugar, and bad fats, while focusing on fruits and vegetables in order to raise glutathione levels. Read about the importance of nutrition here: https://maxliving.com/five-essentials/nutrition/ “Oxygen & Exercise” doesn’t have to be as intimidating as it sounds. By engaging in high intensity, short duration exercises, such as our Max T3 program, you can get the workout your body needs to thrive! Find the benefits of exercise here: https://maxliving.com/five-essentials/oxygen-and-exercise/ Finally, the core of our 5 Essentials is “Core Chiropractic,” which puts the health of your spine and nervous system at the forefront by correcting spinal abnormalities to eliminate interference and unlock your full potential. Learn the benefits of chiropractic care here: https://maxliving.com/five-essentials/core-chiropractic/ At MaxLiving, we provide a different form of healthcare that allows you to maintain health for the rest of your life. By following our 5 Essentials, you can become the person you’ve always wanted to be. Prioritize doing good for yourself today, so that you can be changed tomorrow. S1 Ep 29Episode 29 - Making Health a Priority
Making Health a Priority We all strive to be healthy, but are we taking the necessary steps to achieve a healthy lifestyle? In this week’s episode of The MaxLiving Podcast, Dr. Nick Wilson and Dr. Traci Gross discuss action steps you can take on a daily basis to boost your health. In order to accomplish true health, you have to make it your top priority. It isn’t going to be easy at all to do so, but over time you’ll learn from your mistakes and make the right choices to operate at your full potential. Dr. Traci explains the concept of the health continuum which goes from “health” to “life” to “death”. The closer you are to health the better, because if you aren’t healthy and just living, you’re one step closer to sickness and disease which leads to death. Our MaxLiving doctors believe in vitalism (or innate health), which is the idea that “your body is self-healing and self-regulating on its own” (Dr. Nick). In order to achieve health on the continuum, you have to understand that your lifestyle and choices you make cause interferences in the body which inhibit it’s natural ability to heal itself. Therefore, you need to become aware of what you are putting in your body because it becomes a part of you. Read more about innate health here: https://maxliving.com/healthy-articles/what-is-innate-health/ Specifically, what you feed your body is extremely important because “food is a habit that’s formed intentionally” (Dr. Nick). Dr. Nick says that if you choose to eat bad fats for example, they not only become a part of you, but also cause you to age prematurely, form inflammation, create oxidative stress, and more. Instead, eating good healthy fats such as avocado or raw nuts can help you maintain a healthy body. Through prioritizing your health and becoming more aware of what you’re eating, you can make a positive change. Dr. Nick says that if you’re going to eat unhealthy foods such as sugar or bad fats which interfere with your body’s innate expression of itself, he would rather you skip that meal because it’s only hurting you. This is the process of fasting, which is when you don’t eat for a few hours even when you’re hungry, in order for your body to burn fat. Although fasting is not the most comfortable task, it allows you to become in control of your body, rather than “being controlled by bad habits, routines, or desires” (Dr. Traci). By taking control of your health, you can achieve so much more than you ever believed you could. S1 Ep 28Episode 28 - Take Responsibility for Your Health Part 2
Take Responsibility for Your Health Part 2 This week’s episode is a continuation of last week’s episode about taking responsibility for your health. If you haven’t heard part 1, listen here: https://maxliving.com/podcast/episode-27-take-responsibility-for-your-health/ Why is it that when people get older, some get to live a healthy life and do whatever they want, while others struggle with health issues? Dr. Nick says that the reason their lives are so different is that they took a different path to take care of themselves. He explains that it's easy for people to take the easy way out and eat fast food, or sit on the couch, but it will make things harder for them in the long run. They’ll have health issues later in life because they didn’t put the effort in to take care of their health growing up. Meanwhile, if people take care of themselves by eating nutritious food, finding underlying causes of their health conditions, and putting the time in to fix these issues with chiropractic care, life will be easier and much more fulfilling as they get older. Dr. Traci explains that being a MaxLiving chiropractor is incredibly rewarding because she gets to help her patients live their best life through the 5 Essentials®. She emphasizes that the sooner you choose the harder path of taking responsibility for your health, the better your future will be. At our clinics, we make it easy to take control of your health. We look at the spine first by taking x-rays to analyze if there is damage done to the nerves and then take a surface EMG to see where the nervous system is being challenged. This will give a baseline assessment to find the root of the problem in order to come up with a plan for how to fix it. Learn more about what to expect when visiting a chiropractor here: https://maxliving.com/healthy-articles/what-happens-at-a-chiropractic-adjustment-and-what-to-expect-after/ Dr. Nick tells a story of a patient who came in seeking nutritional advice but came out realizing that he needed to prioritize his nervous system instead. Since the nervous system controls everything in your body, taking nutraceuticals wouldn’t help his health because his body wasn’t functioning properly, to begin with. Once they got his underlying conditions under control, then they could worry about his nutrient absorption and toxicity levels. “The one essential that you neglect is the one that kills you” (Dr. Nick). By prioritizing each of the 5 Essentials® (Core Chiropractic, Mindset, Nutrition, Oxygen & Exercise, and Minimizing Toxins), you can live your life to its fullest potential. S1 Ep 27Episode 27 - Take Responsibility for Your Health Part 1
Take Responsibility for Your Health Have you ever sat and pondered if your insurance company really cares about your health? In this week’s episode, Dr. Nick Wilson and Dr. Traci Gross dive deep into health insurance and question if it’s the right option for you and your family. Dr. Traci mentions that according to Medicare guidelines, they do not cover anything which will help prevent disease, promote health, or prolong the quality of life. Unfortunately, most health insurance companies follow these guidelines, which means a lot of people who have health insurance are missing out on the care that could potentially change their life for the better. Dr. Nick and Dr. Traci bring up that if they were running a health insurance company, they would cover nutrient and toxicity testing, the cost of good quality food, chiropractic care, whole house filtration systems, gym memberships, and more! Contrary to what Medicare offers, these benefits definitely help with disease prevention, promotion of health, and prolonged quality of life. The question is though, why do so many people have health insurance if they don’t get these benefits? Since health insurance is the norm, people who have it usually follow the guidelines and don’t ask questions. For example, chiropractic care is rarely covered by insurance, therefore people can be hesitant to receive chiropractic care as a result. What they don’t know is, our MaxLiving chiropractors make chiropractic care as affordable as possible in order to help families achieve their optimal health. Read more about health insurance and chiropractic care here: https://maxliving.com/healthy-articles/health-insurance-and-chiropractic-care/ Health insurance on the other hand can be a lot more expensive. Dr. Nick tells a story of when he went to get an MRI and the cash rate to pay for it was $875, vs. the insurance rate of $2,000. At the end of the day, you have to make the decision of who you want to be responsible for your health. S1 Ep 26Episode 26 - Building Immunity Through Your Nervous System
Building Immunity Through Your Nervous System A lot of people think that taking supplements will help boost their health regardless of what they eat, but that isn’t the case. The reality is that you can take supplements all you want, but they won’t fix an already unhealthy diet. In order to give your immunity the support it needs to function properly, you need to analyze the food that you eat. By getting your nutrients from food first, you can then add supplements where you need them in order to maximize your full potential. There are hundreds of different supplements on the market that range in ingredients, prices, etc., but the key to living a healthy lifestyle is to invest in your health now, so you won’t have to pay to make up for it later. Dr. Nick’s top 4 supplements he recommends are Vitamin D3 with a Probiotic, Vitamin C, Zinc+, and IM support. Buy them here: Vitamin D3 + Probiotic: https://store.maxliving.com/products/vitamin-d3?variant=17924774527043 Vitamin C: https://store.maxliving.com/products/vitamin-c-complete?variant=17924761944131 Zinc+: https://store.maxliving.com/products/zinc?variant=32013924991043 IM Support: https://store.maxliving.com/products/im-support Our nutraceuticals help aid your body by mitigating inflammation, adapting to viruses and bacteria, and so much more! By feeding your body the vitamins and minerals it needs, it will be able to function at its optimal potential! Stress on the other hand can also have detrimental effects on the immune system, causing individuals to become sick, have anxiety, and make them more susceptible to diseases. Dr. Nick says that in order to relieve some of your mental stress, it’s best to turn off the news and spend time focusing on yourself, your emotions, and how you can prepare for the day. Furthermore, physical stress on the spine and nervous system hinder your body’s ability to function properly, causing a halt in healing and repair as well. By receiving chiropractic care and following the 5 Essentials® lifestyles, we can strengthen your nervous system in order to help you live your best life! S1 Ep 25Episode 25 - Achieving True Health Comes from Within
Achieving True Health Comes from Within Have you ever realized that your body does the right thing at the right time? In this week’s episode of The MaxLiving Podcast, Dr. Nick Wilson and Dr. Traci Gross talk about how achieving true health comes from within. You may wonder why different people have different reactions to viruses. Dr. Nick explains that this is because “your immune system is designed to react,” and “can get built up over time to get strong and healthy.” The fact of the matter is, what you do to your body matters. Our doctors believe that through the 5 Essentials® – Core Chiropractic, Nutrition, Mindset, Oxygen & Exercise, and Minimizing Toxins, you can give your body the support it needs to function at its full potential. It’s important to be aware that your everyday actions affect your body either positively or negatively. Dr. Traci says that one of the most harmful things we consume on an everyday basis without even realizing it is sugar. Sugar is not just in candy, cookies, or soda, but in grains such as rice and pasta as well. So many people eat grains multiple times a day but don’t use the glycogen stores for energy, causing them to gain weight. Learn about how sugar affects your immune system: https://maxliving.com/healthy-articles/how-sugar-affects-your-immune-system/ In order to stop this vicious cycle of gaining weight, try intermittent fasting. This is when you only eat for 8 hours a day and fast for the remaining 16 hours. The easiest way to do this is to skip breakfast and wait until lunch to start eating. Since your body is so used to doing the same things over and over again, intermittent fasting will give your body the ability to adapt to change. By giving your body a change, it will be able to do the right thing at the right time. Read more about intermittent fasting here: https://maxliving.com/healthy-articles/why-intermittent-fasting-improves-health-and-vitality/ Dr. Traci says that “your body’s ability to be healthy and live is solely dependent on how well your body adapts to your environment.” If we can’t adapt, our health will go down the drain, therefore we have to give our body the tools it needs in order to thrive. S1 Ep 24Episode 24 – Kids and Chiropractic Part 2
Kids and Chiropractic Part 2 This week’s episode of The MaxLiving Podcast is part 2 of last week’s episode relating to kids and chiropractic care. If you missed part 1, click here: https://maxliving.com/podcast/episode-23-kids-chiropractic-part-1/ Curious to know how chiropractic care would affect your child? Dr. Nick and Dr. Traci say that it’s a life-changing experience for not only the child, but the parent as well. After receiving care, the focus switches from being concerned about the symptom to realizing how much better their life is overall. Kids are happier, more well-behaved, eager to learn, and much more pleasant people to be around. By removing interference and helping them heal as a whole, it changes the trajectory of their life for the better! When it comes to taking care of your child’s health, Dr. Traci suggests that you trust your own intuition as a parent, rather than listening to a doctor who doesn’t know your child as well as you do. As a parent, you know what’s best for your child, and that’s trusting that their nervous system can heal on its own. Rather than trying to cover up symptoms, we have to understand the power of innate intelligence. Dr. Nick explains that when your child gets a virus, their body heats up naturally to kill the virus, causing them to have a fever. Although many people think that fevers are a bad thing, it’s actually a good thing because it’s the body’s way of fighting off infection by itself. Dr. Nick and Dr. Traci mention that the best thing you can do as a parent is to be curious about your child’s health. By asking questions such as “why is this health problem happening to my child”, rather than medicating their symptoms, you’ll gain more information about them and therefore become more empowered. At the end of the day, you are responsible for your child’s health, and the last thing you want to do is regret the decisions you’ve made for them. If your child has a health issue, take your time to find out ways you can help support their body in this natural healing process, such as incorporating the 5 Essentials® into their lifestyle. Read more about the 5 Essentials® here: https://maxliving.com/five-essentials/ Dr. Traci says that a lot of parents have the wrong mindset about health. Parents come in wanting to strengthen their child’s immune system, when in reality that’s not the right perspective. We need to support what’s already inborn and “teach you how to not weaken what is already strong” (Dr. Traci). “We remove interference, remove whatever is causing weakness in the body, and reconnect the brain to the body, the body to the brain so that there is a full communication and full healing,” (Dr. Traci). Through doing this, your child will be set up for a healthy, happy future. S1 Ep 23Episode 23 - Kids and Chiropractic Part 1
Kids and Chiropractic Part 1 Did you know most of the health problems adults have are triggered by something that happened when they were a kid? In this week’s new episode of The MaxLiving Podcast, Dr. Nick Wilson and Dr. Traci Gross discuss the importance of kids receiving chiropractic care and how to be proactive about your health – not reactive. Dr. Nick tells a story of a 55 year old patient who took a reactive approach to his health, and waited to get care until after his pain had been bothering him for a while. This patient suffered a fall on his neck when he was 15 years old, and unfortunately didn’t ever give his body the support it needed to heal properly. “When you have an accident or injury that isn’t taken care of, it’s going to worsen over time – and you might not feel that worsening,” (Dr. Nick). If this patient had gotten the proper care he needed after his injury, he probably wouldn’t be in so much pain now, 40 years later. It’s extremely important to bring your child to a chiropractor whether they are injured or not, in order to prevent and correct injuries that could damage their health for the rest of their life. You might think chiropractic care is only for adults who suffer with back pain – but that isn’t the case. Chiropractic is a great tool for those of ALL AGES whether they are in pain or not! By receiving chiropractic care at a young age, our doctors can prevent and correct any spinal misalignment so your child can function at their maximum potential for years to come. When it comes to putting your child’s health first, consider the difference of care from medical doctors and pediatric chiropractors. While medical doctors ask what symptoms your child is experiencing and give them something to mask the symptoms, pediatric chiropractors are focused on how to fix this problem for the long term. Chiropractors get to the root cause of the problem, and respect the body in order to support it in the natural healing process. Dr. Traci says that misalignment of the spine and damage to the nervous system will oftentimes show up in the form of a symptom. The most common symptoms babies show are colic, torticollis, or when they have trouble nursing on both sides. These symptoms can be discouraging for parents because they try everything they can to help their baby and nothing seems to help them. Contrary to popular belief though, symptoms aren’t always a bad thing. Symptoms are “our body’s way of telling us what needs our attention,” (Dr. Traci). By paying attention to these signs, we can give the body the support it needs to function properly. Our doctors will get to the root of the problem and remove interference in order for your child to live their best life. S1 Ep 22Episode 22 - Neck Pain and Headaches: Finding the Root Cause Part 2
Neck Pain & Headaches: Finding the Root Cause Part 2 This week’s episode is a continuation of last week’s about neck pain and headaches. If you missed part 1, listen here: https://maxliving.com/podcast/episode-21-neck-pain-and-headaches-finding-the-root-cause/ Today, Dr. Nick Wilson and Dr. Traci Gross discuss multiple factors that could contribute to neck pain headaches including dehydration, toxicity, and misalignment of the alar ligament. Dehydration isn’t always due to the fact that it’s hot outside and you need more water. Most people don’t realize that coffee, soda, or any other caffeinated drinks are known as dehydrants. Dr. Nick says you have to “drink 4 cups of water” in order to make up for just the acidity in these drinks alone. An easy way to analyze if you’re dehydrated is by looking at your urine when first you wake up in the morning. If your urine is clear, you’re not dehydrated, but if it’s yellow – you need to drink more water. When you hydrate, it’s important to be aware of what kind of water you’re drinking. Dr. Traci mentions that you shouldn’t drink water out of the tap because it could contain toxins and chemicals that are harmful to your body. Toxicity in tap water is extremely prevalent being that it doesn’t get filtered. There are numerous heavy metals such as arsenic or lead, and other chemicals that can be disruptive towards your brain. Dr. Nick says that if your water is contaminated, you can do what’s called “reverse osmosis” to filter it out. If you do this, make sure to add back the minerals into your water though because reverse osmosis filters them out. The third, and often overlooked cause for neck pain and headaches is misalignment of the alar ligament. This is normally caused by trauma such as whiplash, or getting hit in the head, making the ligament stretch and misalign more easily. Dr. Nick explains an at home test you can do to see if your alar ligament is damaged is by closing your eyes, waiting a few seconds and tilting your head straight back. If your head rotates to one side, you might have a stretched out alar ligament. If you or someone you know struggles with neck pain and headaches, there is a possible solution. By visiting a MaxLiving chiropractor, they can find the root cause of the problem by doing tests and structural x-rays to see where the spinal misalignment is. Once they figure that out, they can work with you to correct their problem through patient-specific intentional care in order to help you achieve your optimal health. We encourage you to share this episode with someone you know who struggles with neck pain and headaches – it could change their life! S1 Ep 21Episode 21 - Neck Pain and Headaches: Finding the Root Cause
Neck Pain and Headaches: Finding the Root Cause Do you really know what’s causing your neck pain or headaches? There’s a common misconception that the pain is coming from sore muscles in your neck, but that isn’t the case. “When the neck muscles tighten up, it’s not the muscles that are causing the headache, it’s the underlying issue that’s causing it,” (Dr. Traci Gross). Rather than covering up the symptoms of your pain with medications, or by getting a massage, our MaxLiving chiropractors believe in getting to the root cause of the problem. By doing so, we can dig deep and correct the cause naturally. Dr. Nick mentions a term called “subluxation,” which is when individual bones shift out of their normal position, causing uneven wear and tear, as well as degeneration of the joint. This tiny bone shift isn’t only caused by severe trauma or car accidents. It can happen through sports injuries, falling, and even how you sit. Our bodies are being severely affected by this subluxation nowadays being that we spend hours on end hunched over, staring at our phones and computers. As a result of your head being tilted forward for so long, it causes those muscles to stretch, when they should be doing the opposite. Dr. Traci explains that the bigger problem is that subluxation causes damage to the nerves. Since the nerves allow your body to function properly, it may cause issues if they are impaired. For example, if the nerves in your upper neck aren’t working properly, it could cause a variety of problems since the brain is housed there, and controls the majority of your body’s functions. Instead of putting a bandaid on the situation, we need to focus on getting to the cause of the problem so we can improve our health for the long term. Dr. Nick talks about one of his patients who used to get botox to help with her headaches. After Dr. Nick took x-rays of her spine and neck, he found that she had a reversed cervical curve in her neck due to years of covering up her symptoms. If she had just found the root cause first, rather than covering up the headache symptoms, her subluxation may not have gotten this bad. The big takeaway is that although masking symptoms may give you pain relief, it’s not a good long-term plan. You will end up paying the price later when your symptoms are so bad they can’t be covered up. We need to correct our problems firsthand! Even though getting to the cause of the problem might take time and effort in the beginning, in the end, your quality of life will be greatly improved for years to come. It’s time to stop masking your symptoms and start getting to the root cause of the problem. S1 Ep 20Episode 20 – The Importance of Gut Health Part 3
The Importance of Gut Health Part 3 To finish up our gut health series with guest, Dr. Phil Harris, this week’s informative episode focuses on how to heal the gut, an explanation of leaky gut, and where inflammation of the gut comes from. A lot of people take medicine to cover up symptoms if they have gut issues - but that isn’t the answer. Dr. Nick says that in order to heal the gut we have to identify the problem, address the interference, and restore vitality within the body. By following these steps, you’ll be able to function at your maximum potential. Dr. Phil explains that “leaky gut is a perforation of the tissue there that allows fluid to pass through in areas it shouldn’t be going.” Due to the fact that our body isn’t made to accommodate that extra fluid, problems including indigestion and bloating can arise, along with a variety of other health issues. Leaky gut is caused by inflammation, and unhealthy eating, which can trigger autoimmune responses because of the protein molecules. Find out more about leaky gut here: https://maxliving.com/healthy-articles/what-is-leaky-gut/ This inflammation that causes leaky gut is oftentimes caused by gluten as a result of the pesticides and sprays that we put on our grains in the US. Dr. Phil says that gluten in other countries like Europe isn’t as damaging to the gut because it doesn’t contain these harmful pesticides. Interestingly enough, the pesticides we spray our grains with are illegal in other countries because of how harmful they can be. In order to reduce this inflammation, Dr. Phil stresses the need for more alkaline in our diet. Alkaline can be found in foods like spinach, beets, figs, and more. Dr. Nick says we need to avoid food by science, or “food by man because it’s been altered from its most natural state.” He explains that it’s good when people get headaches from smelling certain perfumes because your body is warning you of these toxic chemicals. It’s problematic because people who have a strong stomach and don’t normally have gut pain, don’t realize that just because they have a lack of symptoms, doesn’t mean they are well. It’s scary because a lot of times when that person does start eating healthy, it causes their stomach to hurt because their dysbiosis (or gut balance) is off. Dr. Traci and Dr. Nick encourage everyone who found this episode interesting to attend a MaxLiving clinic near them for our Love My Guts Health Makeover happening this month! S1 Ep 19Episode 19 - The Importance of Gut Health Part 2
The Importance of Gut Health Part 2 This week’s episode of The MaxLiving Podcast is a continuation of last week’s episode about gut health, featuring special guest, Dr. Phil Harris. The thing that a lot of people don’t realize is that your gut health has a significant impact on your overall health and wellbeing. Therefore if you don’t feed and take care of your gut, your health may diminish. Dr. Phil talks about the term “dysbiosis” which is essentially a balance the gut has in order to function properly. If the balance is disproportionate, the gut will suffer, causing other issues to start. Dr. Phil states there are 3 main things that mess the gut up: antibiotics, sugar, and alcohol. He explains that antibiotics create a dysbiosis problem because they destroy the good bacteria in the gut. Since the body has the ability to heal itself, eliminating these antibiotics would avoid the problem of destroying these good bacteria. Sugar on the other hand is in almost everything we eat, whether we are aware of it or not. Not only can it cause nutrient deficiencies, but it can also “deplete and reduce the absorption of several essential vitamins and minerals in the body,” (Dr. Phil). Alcohol is very damaging to our gut as well, being that it’s one of the top 3 most acidic things you can consume in your body. When it comes to talking about gut health, we have to analyze what we’re consuming on a regular basis. If you want to make a change for the better, you have to find the root cause rather than treating a symptom. For example, if you have a headache, you shouldn’t just take medicine to fix that symptom, you need to find the root cause of the headache. In this case, you need to look at what you’re feeding your gut. If it’s one of the top 3 disruptors that mess up the gut (antibiotics, sugar, or alcohol), we need to do something about it before it causes more than just a headache. If you regularly are consuming one or more of these gut disruptors, that doesn’t mean you have to cut them out of your diet completely. Dr. Traci explains that the easiest way to “break a habit is by replacing it with something else.” Dr. Phil says that the first step to doing this is to realize that the approach you’ve been taking was wrong so you can be open to a new approach. We also have to respect the body’s innate intelligence. If we feed our body with toxic antibiotics, we aren’t letting the body do what it's naturally made to do. Through understanding this, we can give our body the tools it needs to function at its optimal potential. If this episode made you want to learn more about gut health, our MaxLiving clinics across the United States are hosting an extreme health makeover called “Love My Guts” this month! S1 Ep 18Episode 18 - The Importance of Gut Health with Dr. Phil Harris
The Importance of Gut Health with Dr. Phil Harris This week’s episode of The MaxLiving Podcast features naturopathic physician, Dr. Phil Harris, who talks with Dr. Nick Wilson and Dr. Traci Gross about the importance of gut health. Did you know that the majority of diseases start in the gut? You may think that you don’t have gut problems because you don’t get stomach pain and have normal stool, but in reality, your gut is connected to a lot more than just that. Dr. Traci mentions that “research is finding more and more now that gut health is linked to autoimmune diseases, cognitive disorders, brain function, cancer, fatigue, learning disabilities, allergies, asthma, food sensitivities” and more! The digestive system and the gut are extremely important. The gut absorbs nutrients we take in, which allows our cells to function properly. But, if we don’t get enough nutrients, or if our gut has problems absorbing nutrients, it can cause a variety of health problems. Dr. Phil tells a story about a patient of his who had weight issues, headaches and low energy and recommended that she go on a high nutrient diet. Unfortunately though, this didn’t help her problems. After submitting a urine test to a lab, they found out that her gut was only absorbing less than 10% of the nutrients she was taking in. Dr. Phil put her on a cleanse to help reset her gut, and she finally started to see results. She started to lose weight, gain more energy, have less headaches, and her gut absorption increased to 40%. “The lining of your gut is often called the second brain” (Dr. Phil). It includes the esophagus, stomach, small & large intestines, gallbladder, liver, and pancreas. Because the gut involves so many organs, it’s never working alone. It’s constantly “absorbing nutrients, producing vitamins, excreting toxins, regulating hormones and regulating your metabolism” so that your body can function properly (Dr. Nick). Dr. Phil talks about his daughter who suffered from skin problems as well as meconium poisoning and how he learned about the importance of gut health and innate intelligence. By detoxing naturally through drinking raw juices, her body got the nutrients it needed to rid her skin of swelling. At the end of the day, “innate is always correct and knows what it’s doing, but it simply has things standing in its way” like toxicity in the gut (Dr. Phil). Through taking care of our gut, our body can ultimately heal itself. Our MaxLiving doctors are committed to helping you live your life to its full potential. S1 Ep 17Episode 17 - All About Arthritis: How Chiropractic Can Help
All About Arthritis: How Chiropractic Can Help All About Arthritis! Most times when you hear someone has arthritis, you picture an older person in pain, not able to do what they love. In reality, though, that’s not how they have to live their life. Just because someone has arthritis, doesn’t mean they can’t be active or do things without being in pain. With the help of chiropractic care, they can live the life they’ve always wanted. In this week’s episode of The MaxLiving Podcast, Dr. Nick Wilson and Dr. Traci Gross talk about the symptoms and causes of arthritis, as well as how to reach your full potential if you’ve been diagnosed. Arthritis is a term used to describe inflammation of the joints. People with arthritis usually suffer from joint aches and pains as a result of misalignment. When the misalignment isn’t corrected, it causes uneven wear and tear, leading to the deterioration of the joint. Dr. Nick says that in order “to know how to recover, treat, and live your best life, you have to know what’s causing your problem.” The typical answer people say for what causes their arthritis is “old age.” But, if the arthritis is in one knee and not the other, how could the pain be caused by old age if both knees are the same age? Individuals with arthritis typically get prescribed medication to mask their symptoms, but most end up staying on that medication for the rest of their lives. The key is realizing that the solution for supporting your health isn’t finding a temporary fix, but rather finding the cause of the problem. Dr. Nick explains how a lot of times people refer to their condition as “my arthritis.” By claiming it as theirs, they’re expressing that the condition is a part of them and there’s nothing they can do about it to get better. Yet, that isn’t the case. Dr. Traci says that rather than taking “ownership of the dysfunction of the body, it’s more beneficial to take ownership of yourself and healing.” Through making this mindset change, the person can focus on living a lifestyle that supports health, rather than a lifestyle that supports arthritis. Dr. Nick tells the story of one of his patients who suffered from arthritis on one side of his lower lumbar spine. Prior to going to Dr. Nick’s office, he would take anti-inflammatory drugs and steroid injections to help with the pain. After talking to Dr. Nick, they found out that the root cause of the arthritis was a car accident where his spine shifted out of alignment. By treating his body in a way that was congruent to what caused it, he’s been able to golf, go on vacation, and live the life he’s always dreamed of. If you’re struggling with arthritis and want a different approach to your healthcare, MaxLiving is here to help. S1 Ep 16Episode 16 - Life Without Limitations: Unlock Your Full Potential
Life Without Limitations: Unlock Your Full Potential So often we stop ourselves from putting our health first because we think it’ll take too much time, or cost too much money. Yet, when we face chronic illnesses due to a lifetime of poor health choices, we spend our life savings to restore the health we once took for granted. Why do we wait until our health diminishes to start making health a priority? Let’s take a look at your Life Without Limitations. In this week’s episode of The MaxLiving Podcast, Dr. Nick Wilson and Dr. Traci Gross discuss how to live your life without limitations. “When you have true lasting health, you can have a great life,” says Dr. Nick. Dr. Nick talks about one of his patients that recently just lost her brother. 3 years ago, this patient decided to take responsibility for her health issues and join MaxLiving, and by doing so, she changed the path of her life for the better. Her brother on the other hand was dealing with the same health issues and didn’t do anything about it, causing his life to, unfortunately, follow a much different path. It’s important to realize that the decisions you make about your health affect what road your life will take. For example, you can take the allopathic road of using drugs or other remedies to cover up a symptom or take the MaxLiving path of realizing that “there is an innate intelligence within all of us that is striving towards health,” (Dr. Nick). It comes down to changing our internal environment in order to see results. Ultimately, if you want to get healthy, there’s a decision that has to be made. If you believe you are on the path to achieving a healthy mind, body, and spirit, that’s awesome – stay with it. But, if you don’t believe you’re on the right path, are you willing to put the time and effort in to change your life for the better? Dr. Traci explains that “our health has so much more potential than we give it credit for,” and that we need to expand our thinking in order to live a life without limitations. If we do the opposite and stay in the little realm of allopathic medicine, we are limiting our decisions and mentality. NOW is the time to take control of your health before it’s too late. If you think you’re living your life with limitations, listen to this week’s episode to get insights on how to unlock your full potential. S1 Ep 15Episode 15 - Revisiting Vitalistic Pediatrics with Larry Palevsky
Revisiting Vitalistic Pediatrics with Larry Palevsky Episode 15 of The MaxLiving Podcast will be a repost of episode 13 with Dr. Larry Palevsky due to technical difficulties. In this week’s special episode of The MaxLiving Podcast, Dr. Nick Wilson is joined by NYS licensed Pediatrician, Dr. Larry Palevsky to talk about his approach to pediatrics. When your child has a health issue, it can be easy to go to the doctor, tell them about your child’s symptoms, and expect the doctor to give you medicine to treat it. But what you don’t realize is that not every child who experiences the same symptoms should be treated the same way. Each child is extremely different and needs to be examined and treated on an individual basis. Dr. Larry explains that “95% of our answers to what’s going on with the child should come from a good history and good physical.” This involves asking questions and looking at the child individually in order for the doctor to assess the body, mind, and spirit. It also allows the doctor to understand the origin of the issue in order to come up with a solution as to how to help the child. “The body has the innate capacity to heal,” is a concept that Dr. Larry learned years ago from a chiropractor, and over time, he started to understand that idea. He realized that if the nervous system had a good balance of being flexible and well-aligned, it could heal itself. Being that the nervous system is connected to all our organs, Dr. Larry started sending his pediatric patients to chiropractors in hopes of helping to treat them. Today, he still practices this, but he hasn’t stopped there. As Dr. Larry explains, if a child has a fever, gets adjusted by a chiropractor, and the fever lessens, the parents will think that it is the chiropractor that healed the child. In reality, this isn’t the case. The chiropractor simply gave the child’s body a chance to do what it was meant to do. But when a child has a fever, gets adjusted by a chiropractor and the fever goes up, that’s not the chiropractor’s fault either. The fever is working to burn off the inflammatory process that’s harming the body, and the chiropractor simply gave the body the kick start it needed to start healing. Dr. Larry’s mission is to explain this truth to his patients and their parents, and thereby give them the information they need to promote true health. S1 Ep 14Episode 14 - What Does It Take to Be a Chiropractor? with Dr. Ron Oberstein
What Does It Take to Be a Chiropractor? with Dr. Ron Oberstein Today in this special episode of The MaxLiving Podcast, host Dr. Nick sits down with leading Chiropractor and President of Life Chiropractic College West, Dr. Rob Oberstein. Life Chiropractic College West is a private college in Hayward, California is known for its Doctor of Chiropractic degree program, and has been accredited since 1987 by the Commission on Accreditation of the Council on Chiropractic Education and by the California Board of Chiropractic Examiners. In addition to his service as President of Life Chiropractic College West, Dr. Rob has decades of experience as a practicing Chiropractor and is seen as one of the leaders of Chiropractic in North America. In this episode. Dr. Ron shares what it takes to become a Chiropractor, what made him choose the path of Chiropractic, and the potential Chiropractic Care has to change healthcare for the better. When asked about what it takes to be a chiropractor, Dr. Ron says that first and foremost, one must have “the heart to serve.” He explains that Chiropractic is more than a career, and is in fact a calling that takes years of study and a dedication to providing health and wellness. What very few people know is that Chiropractors go through years of arduous study, learning many of the same subjects as medical doctors. What sets Chiropractors apart from medical doctors, then, is not what they learn, but how they learn. As Dr. Ron explains, “we learn it in a different way,” focusing on Salutogenesis, which is the focus on factors that support human health and well-being, rather than focusing on factors that cause disease (otherwise known as pathogenesis). As Dr. Ron explains, the process of becoming a Chiropractor is not severely limited by past studies, though a prior college degree is often required. However, as has recently become apparent in traditional medical students as well, an undergraduate degree in the sciences does not necessarily guarantee success in medical school. In fact, outside experiences and perspectives can inform medical and Chiropractic students alike, creating a diverse and well-rounded collection of health-minded professionals. Find out more about what it takes to become a Chiropractor: https://maxliving.com/healthy-articles/exceptional-chiropractic-care-begins-with-training/ Dr. Ron stresses the need for balance between traditional medical practices and the health-centered focus of Chiropractic care. As he says, “we all have to work together.” When you hurt your arm, you go to the nervous system, and then you need to visit your Chiropractor to care for your nervous system and help its ability to support smooth and fast healing. The underlying approach to Chiropractic and health is that “this body was born perfectly,” and Chiropractors “work with that intelligence so that the body can heal itself,” focusing on what’s right with the body vs. what’s wrong with the body. Dr. Nick asks Dr. Ron about his perspective on the role of Chiropractic in healthcare, the balance of emergency care versus preventative care, and the idea that Chiropractic care should be a part of your healthcare “from the womb to the tomb.” Both Doctors stress the need for Chiropractic in the world, and Dr. Ron discusses his educational insights into the growth of Chiropractic care in the future. As Dr. Ron and Dr. Nick state, “we need more Chiropractors” and “we need more people seeking them out.” Tune in to this exciting new episode of The MaxLiving Podcast to find out everything you need to know about Chiropractic, natural health, and more! S1 Ep 13Episode 13 - Vitalistic Pediatrics with Larry Palevsky
Vitalistic Pediatrics with Larry Palevsky In this week’s special episode of The MaxLiving Podcast, Dr. Nick Wilson is joined by NYS licensed Pediatrician, Dr. Larry Palevsky to talk about his approach to pediatric care. When your child has a health issue, it can be easy to go to the doctor, tell them about your child’s symptoms and expect the doctor to give you medicine to treat it. S1 Ep 12Episode 12 - Who Owns Your Health (Part 2)
Who Owns Your Health (Part 2) In this all-new episode of The MaxLiving Podcast, hosts Dr. Nick Wilson and Dr. Traci Gross continue the discussion of who owns your health, and answer just how you can start to take control of your personal health journey. If you have ever wondered if there is a singular thing that you can do to improve your health, this week’s podcast may be able to answer that for you, once and for all. When looking for the source of our health (and the source of our illness) Dr. Nick, Dr. Traci, and other skilled chiropractors like them, look to the spine. The spine houses the central nervous system, which Chiropractors believe may be the source of wellness and illness alike. When our nervous system is healthy, it means our body is communicating at 100%. When our body is communicating, that means it’s functioning. When our spines are unhealthy, it could mean an unhealthy nervous system, as a misaligned or degrading spine could place immense stress on the spinal cord and the nerves housed within it. Unfortunately, in a system where Chiropractic still exists on the fringes of health in the minds of some, this knowledge has gone unnoticed, and many have yet to take their health into their own hands and pursue the natural health possibilities of Chiropractic care. As Dr. Nick and Dr. Traci discuss, it is normal for them to see new patients that have suffered years and even decades of health concerns and frustrating symptoms to no avail. In this episode, Dr. Nick speaks to a particular client who came to him after 20 years of constant headaches. After years of prescriptions and medications failed to cure her, she took her health into her own hands and pursued Chiropractic care. When she visited Dr. Nick, his x-rays exposed the issue in her upper spinal column, and he was able to create a personalized treatment plan to help her. The result? She lost 13 pounds in 3 months, reversed her diabetes, and stopped getting habitual headaches. In other words, once she took an active role in deciding how she would pursue her health, she was able to find the treatment she needed to heal! Find out the science behind why Chiropractic helped this patient and countless others like her: https://maxliving.com/healthy-articles/the-science-of-chiropractic/ As Dr. Nick says, it has become all too common for people to “want health passively,” when health has to be an active choice that we make. Dr. Nick and Dr. Traci discuss the difference between passive and active care, otherwise known as reactive care, and proactive care. With reactive care, we seek to stifle symptoms as they arise. In other words, we wait until we are sick to try to be healthy. With proactive care, however, we seek to reach our optimal health and maintain it, before illness takes over. With proactive care, you are the one in control of your own health. In this episode, your hosts go on to discuss why taking control of your health is so essential. When you lose your health, Dr. Nick and Dr. Traci argue that you lose much more in your life as well. As Dr. Nick says, “when you’re in pain, you’re a different person,” leading people to experience problems in their work lives, with their relationships, and more as a result of the emotional impact of poor health. In this episode, find out just how you can take control of your health and why it matters, and get help doing it! Dr. Nick and Dr. Traci discuss the upcoming MaxLiving Friends and Family Week, where MaxLiving offices across the country offer you the chance to bring the people you love and care about into a new way of thinking about health with discounted care. S1 Ep 11Episode 11 - Who Owns Your Health? (Part 1)
Who Owns Your Health? In this episode of The MaxLiving Podcast, Dr. Nick and Dr. Traci discuss the question “who owns your health?” and how to take control of your health and wellness. There are so many different opinions and so much different contradictory advice out there about what health means, and as a result, it can be hard to define what you believe health means. Is health the lack of symptoms? Is it managing symptoms with medications? Or is it something different? In order to own your health, you have to get back to the very basics of what you believe health really means and make your choices based on that belief. As Dr. Nick and Dr. Traci discuss, it can be easy to wave away wellness with a medication or a “quick fix,” but is that really what health means? Do you want to look outside of yourself for the solutions to health concerns? Or do you want your body to have the ability to regulate those health issues and heal without artificial aid? Too often, our medications and treatments artificially change things like blood pressure, cholesterol, anxiety, joint pain, and dozens of other health concerns. But does artificially changing the symptom really change what is going wrong in the body? Dr. Traci and Dr. Nick argue in the name of real health over artificial health and warn against the surface-level perception of health that has become the standard for wellness today. As the developer of Chiropractic, B.J. Palmer said, “We get sick because of something inside going wrong! We get well because of something inside going right!” In this episode, our hosts dive deep into what has formed our current perception of health and the practices that we partake in to monitor our health based on that perception. They ask: are we truly working to keep our bodies healthy? Or are our practices simply masking the problems our bodies face? And, once you have decided what health truly means to you, Dr. Traci and Dr. Nick ask you who is in control of your health. Are you making decisions for yourself according to your own health beliefs? Or are you allowing outside influences to control the way you treat and care for your body? Listen in to this hard-hitting episode to hear Dr. Nick and Dr. Traci break down the reality of our health systems and how we can take control of our own health and wellness. S1 Ep 10Episode 10 – All Things Heart Health (Part 3)
All Things Heart Health with Dr. Wolfson (Part 3) In this episode, hosts Dr. Nick Wilson and Dr. Traci Gross are joined once again by Dr. Jack Wolfson to discuss how sleep, stress, and fear are related to heart health. These three factors are things that we all deal with each and every day—but do we really know how that stress is affecting your health? The importance of sleep is nothing new to this podcast, but it is, as Dr. Jack Wolfson says, something that is frequently forgotten or shoved aside by modern medical practice. Dr. Jack also stresses that sleep is just as important a factor as diet, exercise, toxin exposure, and other major aspects of health. In fact, people who fail to get healthy amounts of sleep may be at higher risk of heart attack, cancer, high cholesterol, and early mortality. In this day and age, we are always “go, go, go” as Dr. Jack says, trying to multitask and keep up with our hectic daily schedules, and as a result, sleep goes by the wayside. One of the biggest issues? Using artificial light sources to interrupt our natural (asleep with sundown and awake with sunup) schedules. Historically, our ancestors followed the path of the sun to distinguish their sleep and waking patterns, and our bodies expect us to do the same! And yet, we use artificial lights to stay up later and wake up earlier. And why are we doing this? As a direct result of the culture of “mental taxation,” we are expected to prioritize careers and other projects and expectations over our own wellbeing. As Dr. Traci says, this has grown to the point where it is affecting our physical health. Dr. Jack points out that we are likely more fearful and stressed than ever before today, with the onslaught of the last year in addition to what is now considered standard stressors. We spend our time glued to televisions and phone screens that increase our levels of stress and fear, and as a result, our mental health is declining, which causes our physical health to decline. In addition, our lifestyles of office work, television, and screens have resulted in us spending minuscule amounts of time outside, which further diminishes our health. As Dr. Jack says, our skin is “like a solar panel” soaking up the sunshine and powering our bodies with vitamin D, which supports a healthy immune system and a healthy body. Our indoor focused lives of stress and “go, go, go,” therefore, are hurting is in more ways than one. Sunlight and being in the outdoors have even been proven to help mental health and wellness! Other aspects of life that are negatively affecting our lives include our jobs making us stressed or unhappy and our relationships making us stressed or unhappy. It can be frightening to look outside of the situation you find yourself in, but it is ultimately a choice between the stability of the unhappiness you live in currently and the possibility of something better that waits beyond. It can be frightening to look outside of your current life, career, and relationships, but that fear could be holding you back from happiness and your mental and physical wellbeing. If your career, relationships, or other lifestyle decisions are making you unhealthy, you have the power to affect positive change! In this episode, Dr. Jack goes into detail about the issues that face us every day, affecting both our heart health and our overall health. S1 Ep 9Episode 9 – All Things Heart Health (Part 2)
All Things Heart Health with Dr. Jack Wolfson (Part 2) In this episode, learn about supplementation and all the natural nutraceuticals that can help you support your heart health. As Dr. Nick and Dr. Traci have addressed before, it has become incredibly difficult to get the nutrients our bodies need from our diets alone. With overfarming, processed foods, toxins, and other factors interrupting the nutritional value of food, far too many of us are left with deficiencies in one or more essential nutrients. With the help of natural supplementation, we can supplement our natural health practices. Dr. Jack recommends that everyone should be on several basic nutraceuticals, including a high-quality multivitamin, but in addition, he recommends finding out every person’s individual nutrient needs and choosing specific nutritional supplementation based on those needs. Some people may need additional electrolytes while others might need more vitamin D. To find out what you need, there are a number of tests that you can take, such as the ones that many MaxLiving clinics offer! Find a clinic near you and discuss opportunities for testing your nutritional needs. According to Dr. Jack, if you are suffering from heart health concerns, magnesium, nitric oxide, and/or vitamin K may be possible underlying factors. When testing for heart health concern causes, Dr. Jack frequently tests for deficiencies in these three areas, and recommends natural supplements for these three vitamins, which have been shown to lower blood pressure, increase blood flow, aid in cholesterol levels, and more! In this episode, find out about natural alternatives to many of the treatments offered to aid in heart health, from supplementation to Chiropractic care! S1 Ep 8Episode 8 - All Things Heart Health (Part 1)
All Things Heart Health with Dr. Jack Wolfson (Part 1) Holistic cardiologist Dr. Jack Wolfson guest hosts alongside Dr. Nick Wilson and Dr. Traci Gross in this episode of The MaxLiving Podcast about all things heart health. Dr. Jack Wolfson completed 10 years of traditional medical training before finding his calling in natural health. While working in Arizona, he met a Doctor of Chiropractic that opened his eyes to the possibility of becoming a “Doctor of Cause.” Dr. Jack Wolfson realized that health is about more than treatment in a hospital, it is about living a healthy lifestyle, which is what he speaks to in this heart-health-focused episode of The MaxLiving Podcast. One of the things that Dr. Jack prescribes to his patients that breaks the norm of medical cardiological treatments is Chiropractic treatment. When Dr. Jack receives a new patient with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or other heart health risks, he sends them to receive regular Chiropractic treatment, which studies show can directly affect blood pressure and even overall heart health. Though this may seem unconventional to some, the reality is that Chiropractic may be able to help regulate health throughout the body in a natural, effective manner. When it comes to different kinds of doctors and different kinds of treatment, Dr. Jack believes in a system of practice where Chiropractic care becomes a ‘gateway’ to specialized care. In other words, Chiropractic offers the basic essentials of care that everyone needs to support their health in the long term, naturally. In this episode, learn about the things in your environment and lifestyle that may lead to health concerns. Toxins, poor diets, poor sleep, and a lack of exercise can all have negative effects on heart health. Dr. Jack’s formula for heart health and longevity is depending on the right food, the right sleep patterns, and the right environment. This means minimizing toxins, avoiding unhealthy foods, and getting good, quality sleep. When it comes to diet, we can easily take steps today to make positive changes. There are hundreds of different diets, but the first step is removing chemicals from the food we eat every day. Choose natural, grass-fed, wild-caught, and organic foods! The episode discussed the concept of “cardio-toxic” and the ways that toxins can affect the heart. And where do many of these toxins come from? Our food! When you go to the grocery store next, you can support your natural health and perhaps be able to turn around your heart health by choosing natural, healthy, toxin-free foods. S1 Ep 7Episode 7 – All Things Sleep (Part 2)
Set Yourself Up for a Great Night’s Sleep In this continuation of our new series: All Things Sleep, we discuss what to do today to get great sleep. How do we get amazing sleep? It may be easier than you may think with these 6 easy steps. 1. Set the right temperature The first and simplest step you can take is to adjust the temperature in your home when you sleep. Research shows that the ideal temperature for sleep is somewhere between 60 and 72 degrees Fahrenheit. 2. Get in the mood for sleep Second, set the mood. This means shutting down devices, dim the lights, and let your body recognize that it’s time to sleep. Our bodies are programmed to rise and sleep with the sun, which means lights can cause our melatonin levels to drop. Melatonin is a natural hormone that regulates our sleep, and the more you produce, the healthier your sleep. You can help tell your body that it should produce melatonin by turning off lights and keeping your room dark during your sleep hours. This means lowering the blinds, turning off the TV and keeping your phone away from your bed. To prepare for a good night’s sleep, try doing yoga or reading a book to ease into sleep. 3 Cut out the late-night snacking Next up: avoid late-night snacking! Too often, our evening snacks include sugary, carb-filled snacks. Ideally, when you “fast” between dinner and breakfast, you allow your body to access and burn fat while you sleep, which helps regulate hormones and optimize weight. When you break that fast with a snack after dinner, it disrupts your body’s natural evening cycle and can interfere with your REM cycles and your overall health! Not only can late-night snacking cause weight issues, but so can adding stimulants like caffeine to our bodies too late in the day. Last week Dr. Nick and Dr. Traci discussed the issues associated with afternoon coffee and high cortisol levels. Well, in addition to causing stress, high cortisol levels can disrupt your metabolism! 4. Create an evening or night-time routine Once you’ve eliminated these stressors and interruptions to your sleep, it’s time to establish an evening routine. Having a nighttime routine can help you keep out stressors like work or chores and can help your body recognize that it is time for bed. Use the last hour before bed to prepare your mind and body for sleep, and you may notice an immediate positive change in the quality of your sleep. 5. Use supplements to help support your natural sleep cycle Another important aspect of protecting your sleep is choosing quality supplements to support your body’s natural sleep cycle. Magnesium is one of the key nutrients that our bodies need. People suffering from tight muscles, cramping, disrupted sleep, headaches, and more may be suffering from a magnesium deficiency. Try our quality Magnesium natural nutraceutical and support your sleep health: https://store.maxliving.com/products/magnesium-glycinate 6. Chiropractic adjustments may help you get a good night’s sleep The next, and arguably most important, part of supporting positive sleep is to get adjusted! Subluxation, or misalignment of the spine, can interrupt your sleep due to discomfort or deeper issues in the health of your nervous symptom. Chiropractic seeks to remove pressure on the spine and spinal cord, relieving pain and helping the nervous system function properly. This, in turn, will help your body function and produce the proper hormones and reactions that allow you to get good, quality sleep. Something else your chiropractor can help you with is the proper position to sleep in for quality, healthy sleep. It may sound disappointing to side sleepers, but the best p...

S1 Ep 6Episode 6 - All Things Sleep (Part 1)
Sleep Disruptors Could be Diminishing Your Health Did you know that we are the only mammals that intentionally disrupt or delay sleep? Too often, we “power through” being tired, wake up artificially and put off sleep in favor of “more important” things like work. Just like with everything else, the disruption of sleep is a symptom, and we want to get to the root cause. This is because if you are not sleeping, you are not functioning at 100%. In other words, you are not healing. The CDC shows that over 1/3rd of Americans aren’t getting the amount of sleep they need, and we want to change that! We need sleep for everything from mood and productivity to hormone regulation and weight control. According to studies, adults need at least 7 hours of healthy, deep sleep every night. So, are you sleeping well? If you are experiencing symptoms like high blood pressure, changes in mood, or decreased immune strength, they could be warning signs that you aren’t sleeping well! You may think you are going to bed and getting up on a consistent 7 or 8 our schedule each night, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you are getting the sleep you need. In other words, it isn’t just the quantity of sleep that matters, it is the quality. Throughout the night, our bodies are meant to go through about 3 cycles of REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep. This cycle allows us to “recharge.” Our brains reset and recharge, our bodies rest and heal, and we prepare to take on the next day at optimal health. But, if we fail to get that deep, quality sleep, it’s like connecting your phone to a charger and the cord being unplugged. No matter how much you are sleeping, if you aren’t getting deep sleep, it may be interfering with the regeneration and healing processes of the brain and body. As Dr. Nick and Dr. Traci discuss in this episode, a lack of quality sleep can be a domino effect, causing an unhealthy shift in habits and disrupting essential cycles in your body. One of these cycles is your body’s natural cortisol levels. Cortisol is a stress hormone that rises and falls in level in order to wake up each day, but it is interrupted when we have too little sleep. This is because our bodies know we should not wake up, and thus do not increase cortisol levels. When we wake up to an alarm clock before our bodies are ready, we are left feeling exhausted and craving that cortisol boost. And where do we find it? With caffeine! However, too much caffeine, especially as a replacement for natural cortisol levels, could cause continually elevated cortisol levels. When your cortisol levels are consistently high, you are consistently stressed. Plus, high cortisol levels lead to a craving for sugars and carbs! Cortisol can be a savior, but only when it naturally occurs at the correct levels that your body needs. Your habits could be negatively affecting this, which then could interrupt your sleep patterns! In order to keep yourself from feeling these negative effects, there are immediate action steps that you can take to improve your sleep and support your health! Listen in to this episode for the warning signs of sleep disruption and the steps you can take to promote healthy sleep habits. S1 Ep 5Episode 5 - Can Chiropractic Help My Condition?
Following our last podcast, in which we established the details of innate health and our body’s natural healing power, we continue the conversation of natural healing with Chiropractic. Chiropractic is often oversimplified to “curing back pain.” Of course, that is something that Chiropractic may be able to do, but that is not the purpose of Chiropractic care. The true purpose of Chiropractic care is to enable natural healing in the body, treating any number of conditions you or your family may be struggling with. With that in mind, this week we are asking: what can Chiropractic do for you? Beyond back pain, some basic areas that Chiropractic has consistently been known to improve include neck pain, headaches, migraines, and trouble sleeping. Chiropractic may be able to go even further than this though. How? Because Chiropractic is all about enabling your body to function at 100%, which means helping your body live to its fullest potential! Your body doesn’t just heal from cuts and bruises. Every part of your body is constantly communicating, growing, and regenerating, from your head to your toes, inside and out. As Dr. Nick said last week, the greatest doctor in the world is inside your body. This week, we are telling you how to unlock that potential. It may sound counterintuitive at first, but a chiropractor’s job isn’t to make you heal. Though this may sound strange, it is essential to open your mind to a new way of thinking. If you have been struggling with health conditions, trying every conventional method to treat them to no avail, it may mean that you need to adjust your perspective on health. Healing isn’t something that we can do to the body. It is something that the body does for us. Our job is simply to enable it. Too often, we look at singular parts of the body or individual symptoms, but the one affects the whole, therefore you must treat the whole! Treating a symptom can cover up the symptom, like a bandage over a cut. In Chiropractic, we don’t treat the symptoms. We respect the symptoms. This means understanding that the symptom is a natural response triggered in the body to let you know that something is wrong. As Dr. Nick’s example in this episode goes, if you are exposed to e coli, your body’s natural reaction is to become feverish and nauseous. Our knee-jerk reaction may be to stifle these symptoms because they don’t feel good. However, the purpose of these symptoms is to help enable healing! Your fever is working to burn out the invader while throwing up could eject the e coli from your stomach. If you interrupt these symptoms, you may allow the thing that is making you sick to settle into the body. In instances like this, our ‘health’ practices may actually get in the way of healing. As Dr. Nick says, “Get out of the way!” Find out why cold and flu symptoms are actually good for you. You may be able to do just that through Chiropractic. Getting over conditions like insomnia, chronic back pain, chronic migraines, IBS, hormone disruption, weight gain, and more may sound like a miracle to some, but to Chiropractors, it is simply the body returning to its natural state. According to research, Chiropractic may help with a wide range of conditions because it works with the nervous system. One study found that chiropractic treatment may be able to help with virtually any condition, and there is no known ceiling to the benefits. In other words, you can continue improving your health indefinitely. Understand the science of Chiropractic. It may be hard to believe that one treatment can help with everything–and it doesn’t! Chiropractic isn’t what...

S1 Ep 4Episode 4 - Health Care or Sick Care?
It’s easy to talk about weight loss, healthy eating, and reducing toxins. It’s more difficult to discuss something as intangible as a mindset or philosophy. However, your health philosophy is the most important aspect of health for you and your family. Your health philosophy is what drives every decision you make, from your diet to your sleep patterns. If you have a poor health philosophy or lack a grounded philosophy at all, it can hurt you and your family through what you are eating, the toxins you are coming into contact with, the level of physical activity you are or are not participating in, and even how you prioritize your mental wellbeing. Health philosophy may be an intangible concept, but it is the single most important factor in establishing whether or not you will be successful in your pursuit of health. It is what will drive you to exercise daily, get preventative care from your chiropractor, and stick to healthy eating habits. Or, it is what will lead you to say a chronic symptom is “not that bad” until it becomes a legitimate health concern. The difference between true healthcare and what we like to call “sick care” is all dependent on your personal health philosophy. If you are dedicated to preserving health, you are pursuing healthcare. If you are complacent in treating illness as it appears and negatively affects you, you are reactively turning to care to treat an already present sickness––in other words, sick care. To truly be healthy, you have to establish your health philosophy before a health crisis strikes, because by the time you are facing a severe illness or chronic condition, you have already strayed away from seeking healthcare for far too long. However, no matter where you are in your health journey, you have the potential to change your philosophy. If you are experiencing a chronic symptom like headaches or back pain and your response is to minimize it and say “it’s not that bad,” now is the time to reverse your thinking. Why should you live with not that bad? As Dr. Nick points out, compared to other industrialized countries, we are 13th out of 13 countries studied when it comes to several essential aspects of health. We have the lowest infant birth weight, the highest infant mortality rate, and the highest rate of ‘lifestyle diseases’ like diabetes and heart disease depleting our quality of life. Dr. Nick and Dr. Traci discuss where these upsetting statistics come from in our nation’s health philosophy, and how we can start reorienting ourselves to seek true health before we are affected by sickness. At the core of this change is your ability to claim advocacy over your health. As Dr. Traci says, “you have a choice. It’s your body, and you choose what to do with it.” With the help of this podcast and the resources of MaxLiving, you can begin making informed choices to take care of your body in new, natural ways. After all, our bodies have an innate intelligence that allows our heart to beat, our lungs to transmit oxygen to our blood, our cells to fight disease, and our skin to heal, all without any external intervention or conscious thought from us. In other words, our body has the innate power to heal, just by the nature of existing. So why don’t we trust our bodies to keep us healthy? As Dr. Nick points out, “the greatest doctor in the world lives inside you.” Now is the time to start trusting it! S1 Ep 3Episode 3 - Cleansing or Detoxify
In this episode of The MaxLiving Podcast, Dr. Nick and Dr. Traci discuss detoxification and cleansing and expose the difference between the two. Detoxification and cleansing have become common terms in recent years as we all begin to acknowledge the number of chemicals and toxins we come into contact with each and every day. However, like supplements (as discussed last week!), not all detoxes and cleanses are created equal. Particularly when it comes to cleansing, which often includes sticking to a juice diet for a period of several days, you could end up doing more harm than good! As Dr. Nick says, there is always a good intention of detoxifying your body when you partake in a juice cleanse, but there also needs to be intention and knowledge to be successful. When you purchase juices, they may have lost a significant amount of their enzymatic activity and nutritional value between the time when they are manufactured to the time you are drinking them, and many juices don’t carry organic, clean ingredients to begin with! Even if you create your juices at home, you could inadvertently be adding toxins to your body by using fruits and vegetables contaminated with fertilizers and pesticides. That’s just one of many reasons why organic, quality products are absolutely essential. When you properly cleanse, the intention is to aid your body in the natural process of detoxification that it is already carrying out, loading up with vitamins and minerals that improve the process. Detoxification often comes in the form of a supplement, such as our Detox System, which contains activated charcoal, which naturally absorbs substances, including harmful toxins, and helps your body extract them from your system. Learn about the 3 key processes to natural detoxification: https://maxliving.com/healthy-articles/the-3-key-processes-to-natural-detox/ Dr. Nick and Dr. Traci stress the effectiveness of true, researched cleansing and detoxification, but only with the right intentions behind it. In the middle of the ‘detox fad,’ many people have something driving them to try a cleanse or detox, whether it’s weight gain, high cholesterol, lethargy, or something else. However, the worry with this is that we are simply looking to mute our symptoms rather than acknowledging the underlying issue. Think of it this way: if your check engine light came on in your car, would you simply cover it up with a piece of tape and continue driving? Of course not! So why then, do we do this with our bodies? Our ‘check engine light’ is our symptom, whether it be weight gain, lacking energy, headaches, allergies or sensitivities, cholesterol, or any number of other conditions. When taking on a cleanse or a detox process, we have to do it with the intention of truly healing, rather than placing a bandaid over the issues we are experiencing. Minimizing toxins, after all, starts with minimizing the number of toxins we come into contact within the first place. In order for you to effectively cleanse or detox, you have to start by committing to lifestyle changes that will help keep toxins out of your body once you have successfully filtered out existing toxins. S1 Ep 2Episode 2 - Consuming Contaminants
This week on The MaxLiving Podcast, hosts Dr. Nick and Dr. Traci discuss consuming contaminants and toxicity in our food and how to avoid it. Do you know what’s really in the food you eat each day? From the fertilizers and pesticides used on our produce to the packaging that our food is stored in, toxins threaten to enter our bodies at all angles. As Dr. Nick discusses, the labels on food are largely marketing, and as such cannot be trusted. “Natural does not mean organic,” as Dr. Nick says, and too often, food labels seek to mislead us with names that ‘sound’ healthy. Even by reading the ingredients in your food, you may still be misled. Take MSG for example. MSG is a substance that may affect our neurons and is used to enhance flavors. It is commonly known that MSG is a common allergen and is likely an unhealthy additive, and the solution of many companies has been to call the ingredient by different names. Alternative names for MSG include ‘yeast extract,’ ‘yeast nutrient,’ ‘soy protein isolate,’ ‘natural flavoring,’ or simply ‘flavoring.’ Similarly, ‘sugar-free’ is a phrase that is commonly thought to mean “healthy,” when the truth might be quite the opposite. Dr. Traci discusses the dangers of sugar replacements such as aspartame, which has been connected to gut health problems, headaches, and even cancer. As the Doctors discuss, we often do not realize that we are making poor decisions for our health or think that there is no way to avoid it. However, “our health should be our number one priority because it’s our number one asset,” (Dr. Nick), and “your health is always a choice,” (Dr. Traci). Dr. Nick and Dr. Traci discuss ingredients and names to stay away from, such as ‘fortified,’ which often means altered in a plant or factory, which additives, texturizers, and the like being added. They offer tricks about the kinds of foods to indulge in, the kind to avoid, and how to create healthy eating habits. They cover food containers such as BPA and microplastics that could be contaminating our food and adding toxins to our system, and other ways that daily contact with toxins can occur without you even knowing it. Dr. Nick also uses this episode as an opportunity to dive into supplementation. He discusses the way that nutrition levels in our food have dropped due to over-farming, and the subsequent need for supplementation. However, both doctors stress that not all supplements are created equal. Tune in to this episode for details on how to tell good supplements from bad, organic, healthy food from toxic foods, and how to gauge your natural health each and every day.
