Good morning! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the Maryland Weather Podcast — it's Sunday, February 22nd. Folks, the storm we've been tracking all week? It's here. And it means business.
Right now you've got drizzle across most of the state, but that's about to flip. By mid-morning, rain mixes with snow. By this afternoon? All snow, heavy at times, with temps dropping fast. Tonight's when this storm really flexes — we're talking snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour in some spots. Winds howl out of the north, gusting to 40 miles an hour near the Bay. That's near-blizzard conditions, folks.
Down in Baltimore, you'll see rain and snow mix this morning before flipping to all snow by afternoon. Expect 4 to 8 inches by Monday morning, with the heaviest snow between 7 PM and 3 AM. Winds gust to 33 miles an hour tonight. And temps drop from 37 degrees at sunrise to 32 by midnight. Travel's going to be brutal.
Central Maryland gets a similar story — 6 to 10 inches possible, highest totals near the Bay. Same gusty winds, same dropping temps.
Head west toward Garrett County. And snow starts earlier. You're looking at 3 to 5 inches by tonight, but higher elevations could see 6 to 12 inches. Winds gust to 30 miles an hour. And by early Monday it'll feel like 22 degrees.
For the week. Snow tapers Monday morning, but another system brings light snow Tuesday night. Wednesday warms to the upper 40s, then rain and snow mix returns Thursday. The weekend brightens — sunny skies and highs near 50 by Saturday.
This is a dangerous storm. If you must travel, expect whiteout conditions and roads that change in minutes. Stay updated, stay safe.
That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
