E

The 2017 Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion weekend at Laguna Seca gave us some amazing sounds from the assembled IMSA GTP and European Group C prototypes. With our trusty audio recorder atop the famous Corkscrew, capturing Porsche 962s and Mazda 767Bs and all manner of unhinged cars powering down the hill, we have a brief sound feature to share as some prototypes, with 800-900 horsepower to unleash, crash through the Corkscrew and rocket away for our audio delight. Ep 621MP 744: The Week In IndyCar Special Feature with John Andretti from 2018

E

John Andretti's visit to The Week In IndyCar show in January of 2018, not long after his colon cancer diagnosis was revealed, was my favorite episode back then and remains so today. After listening to the listener-driven interview after his loss on January 30, 2020, I wanted to take another shot at editing the episode to fix some technical glitches and to trim the show down to the best parts where John spoke on his amazing, multi-faceted career. Please enjoy the warmth, talent, and humility that endeared Andretti to so many, starting with: Update on his physical condition (starts at 6m19s) Leading colon cancer awareness initiative (9m15s) Toughest Indy 500 competitor and birthday story (11m44s) Vehicle he always wanted to race but couldn't (15m56s) How his father Aldo would have fared as an Indy 500 driver (18m07s) Favorite race car liveries he's represented (20m31s) 1990 Porsche IndyCar program and 1991 Jim Hall Lola-Chevy IndyCar effort (25m08s) Dealing with cancer and future goals (38m50s) #CheckIt4Andretti (46m29s) Favorite Jim Hall stories (52m36s) Favorite street car (59m43s) Thoughts on Richard Petty (1h02m14s) Driving for legendary team owners (1h06m53s) Memories of following cousin Michael and Rick Mears during their 1991 Indy 500 duel (1h12m01s) Trying his hand racing in the NHRA (1h14m26s) Riley Children's Hospital (1h23m48s) Driving styles (1h35m00s) Racing at the 1988 Bathurst 1000 (1h45m56s) Subscribe: https://marshallpruettpodcast.com/subscribe Join our Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/MarshallPruettPodcast

Ep 593MP 716: Porsche 911 RSR In-Car Audio, Sebring 2019

E

Say hello to 2020 with the trumpet of the gods. In the first of a multi-part feature captured in collaboration with Porsche North America, we have in-car audio from the glorious Porsche 911 RSR to offer, taken from the tail of the championship-winning IMSA GT Le Mans machines during practice for the 2019 Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring. Anticipating the arrival of the new 911 RSR with its side-mounted exhausts, we wanted to preserve the cry of the original 911 RSR, done by placing our recorder just above the screaming 4.0-liter flat-six engine's rear-facing exhaust fury. For this episode, you're riding with Nick Tandy, Patrick Pilet, and Fred Makowiecki in a race they'd go on to win! Ep 592MP 715: First Wings at Indy, with Mario Andretti and Bobby Unser

E

Racing legends Mario Andretti and Bobby Unser visit the Marshall Pruett Podcast to take us back to Indianapolis in the late 1960s where wings were first allowed at the 500. Uncle Bobby would win his first of three Indy 500s in 1968, the last year without wings, and Andretti followed in 1969, winning 50 years ago while making use of wings for the first time. Both men, starting with Andretti, discuss the development of aerofoils and the introduction of meaningful downforce to the Indy 500, which went through a rapid series of developments into the 1970s and early 1980s, where Unser scored his final Indy 500 win. It's the testing, trials, and failures in bringing wings to Indy, as told by two of the most technically savvy icons the sport has known. Ep 590MP 713: Inside the Porsche-Coke Throwback Program

E

One of the most exciting surprises from 2019 was delivered by Porsche North America and Coca-Cola as the two iconic brands reunited for a one-off collaboration at IMSA's season finale at Petit Le Mans as the Nos. 911 and 912 Porsche 911 RSRs wore liveries that paid tribute to the Porsche race cars of the 1980s that carried Coke's branding. In a special feature on the Marshall Pruett Podcast, the three people from Porsche who were responsible for the concept and creation of the throwback program with Porsche, Dave Engelman, spokesperson for Motorsports and Brand Heritage, Scott DeVault, E-Performance marketing manager, and Scott Bartlett, Motorsports & Driving Events manager, tell the backstory of how an idea turned into a raging success for the 2019 IMSA GT Le Mans champions. Ep 589MP 712: 1986 Toyota Celica IMSA GTO In-Car Audio, Monterey 2018

E

It's a big turbo in-car audio feature this time on the Marshall Pruett Podcast, captured inside a 1986 Toyota Celica IMSA GTO machine built by All American Racers, and driven back in the day by Willy T. Ribbs and Chris Cord. With almost 600hp on tap from the 2.1-liter four-cylinder turbo, owner/driver Eric Edenholm spools up the boost while charging around Laguna Seca during the 2018 Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion event for our audio pleasure. Ep 584MP 708: Al Unser Jr's Near 1989 Indy 500 Win

E

Two-time Indy 500 winner Al Unser Jr joined me in May to discuss the 1989 race where he came incredibly close to earning his first victory before a clash with Emerson Fittipaldi sent his Galles Racing Lola-Chevy into the Turn 3 wall. The incident, and his unfathomable response to Fittipaldi after climbing from the battered car is, as he shares, no less remarkable 30 years after it took place.
