Show Notes
Good evening! I'm DJ Huzz. And welcome to the Maine Weather Podcast for Tuesday, February 24th.
Folks — winter's got its grip locked tight on us tonight. And it's not letting go anytime soon. Step outside right now and you'll feel it. That cold is **biting**.
Down in Portland, you're sitting at about 20 degrees, but wind chills are making it feel closer to single digits. **Brutal**. Up toward Bangor, temperatures have dropped into the low teens. And if you're anywhere near The County? You're flirting with zero. Presque Isle is **frigid** tonight, no two ways about it.
Here's what I'm watching. We've got a clipper system sliding through overnight that's going to dust us with a couple inches of light, powdery snow. Nothing major — maybe two to four inches across the interior, less along the coast. But here's the thing. That light snow on top of already icy roads? **Hidden black ice** is going to be a real problem for your Wednesday morning commute. You'll want to give yourself extra time and slow way down.
Heading into the rest of the week, Wednesday stays cold with highs barely cracking the mid-twenties statewide. Skies clear out by afternoon, though, so at least you're getting some sunshine. Thursday? More of the same. High pressure parks itself over New England and gives us a couple of dry, cold days. Perfect conditions up at Sugarloaf and Sunday River if you're looking to hit the slopes — that fresh dusting on top of the packed base is going to ski **beautifully**.
Here's your heads-up for the weekend. I'm keeping my eye on a potential Nor'easter developing Saturday into Sunday. It's still early. And the models aren't in agreement yet, but there's enough signal there that you should be paying attention. We could be talking significant snow. I'll have a much better read on that by Thursday's show.
If you're heading out tonight. Layer up, cover exposed skin. And keep those pets inside. That's the kind of cold that sneaks up on you, folks.
That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow with updates on that weekend storm. Take care!
