#267 - Find Your Summer Reading Rhythm

My goal is that you listen to these next twenty minutes or so and you leave with the following pieces of information: what matters most to you about your reading over the next two or three months, an idea of how to find things to read that make sense for you, and a simple - I mean, ridiculously simple - summer reading rhythm. This is not me telling you what I do, expecting you to take the same approach. Helpful Companion Links Anne Bogel’s podcast What Should I Read Next? #266 - How to Lazy Genius a Summer at the Pool

First, there’s a different strategy when you’re visiting the pool once or twice versus going to the pool again and again. If you’re going as a guest, you pack your bag with towels and snacks and whatever you or your kids need for the day, you go, you have fun, and you come home. One-off experiences are generally a little more forgiving. It’s the repeated ones that can be a bit frustrating. This episode is going to be focused on spending multiple days a week or basically spending the summer at the pool. There will be some great tips for people who only go once or twice or maybe go to the beach or just summer outings in general, but the focus here is going to the pool again and again. #262 Answers to The Magic Question That Paid Off

The Magic Question is what can I do now to make something easier later? The smaller the something, the easier the solution. When you ask the magic question, you usually get a pretty quick win. #258 - The Seven Kinds of Rest and How to Know Which One You Need

Rest itself is such a needed thing for all of us. After all, a Lazy Genius principle is to schedule rest, mostly because we just let it happen and it never does. But I have also been paying a lot of attention to the different kinds of rest and why certain kinds don’t always land for us. Or why we take the time to rest but still feel unfilled after. A conversation around the nuance of rest is desperately needed, especially when a lot of us are working with less margin than we ever have before. So let’s dive in. #256 - How to Make Time for Fun

We are very good at talking about productive things, domestic things, hard being-a-person things, but we don’t often talk about specifically fun things. The busier we are, the more humans we interact with and care for, the more we don’t deal with the mounting pressure of what it means to be a person in this world right now, we don’t leave a lot of room for fun. And I want us to actually systemize it today. I want us to Lazy Genius fun and for you to figure out how to add more fun to your life on purpose. #255 - How to Name What Matters

This episode is one of those rare ones that I’m like - wait, did we not do that yet? It’s so desperately essential to living like a Lazy Genius, and I’ve never actually done an episode or spent a length of time talking about how to do this, how to name what matters. #254 - Chores I Do Every Day

I don’t have a lot of time, you probably don’t either, and even if you do, most of us don’t necessarily want to spend all of it doing chores. Some chores you might like, some are therapeutic and calming and give you a sense of accomplishment and purpose, and that’s fantastic. #253 - How to Give Yourself Permission with Kate Bowler

A note from Kendra: In this conversation, Kate and I exchange a joke about going to prison for someone we love, and I have since been shown the harm that reaction causes people in communities affected by disproportionate and unfair policing. For that, I am genuinely sorry. Thank you for graciously leaving space for all of us to continue to learn and do better in our work of allyship. Kate Bowler is here! Lazy Genius of the Week: Paula Kay Myers Love the soup podcast and need to share with you my LG gift idea. My 80-year-old dad and stepmom, like most 80-year-olds, don’t need or want anything. They actually act bratty when receiving a gift. But 2 years ago I had a brainstorm! I wrapped a case of 12 quart mason jars in Christmas paper and when they opened it I told them it was a soup of the month club. Perfect gift - consumable, practical, and something to look forward to. And I always delivered it with fresh bread. It also obligated me to a monthly visit with them. We were about 45 minutes apart at the time and they absolutely loved it. And began asking me in March when they had the option to renew. My husband and I have since moved 12 hours away so this year when I was visiting after Thanksgiving, I filled their deep freezer with bags of soup and wrapped up 2 cute soup bowls. Best gift I’ve ever given. This podcast is hosted by Kendra Adachi and executive produced by Kendra Adachi, Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey. A few weeks ago, I posted on Instagram asking for your holiday horror stories. You know, that time you tried to be either super lazy or super genius during the holidays. #238 - How to Get Stuff Done When You Don’t Feel Like It

The number of times I have to do stuff I don’t want to do is a very high number, and it’s part of life. I think it’s important to name what we can be a genius about and what we can be lazy about, but there are things we have to do that we don’t love doing. So how do we do that while still being Lazy Geniuses? That’s what this episode is all about, and we’re going to make it as linear as possible. #230 - How to Feel Like a Person with Aundi Kolber

Today, I’m speaking with therapist and author Aundi Kolber. This conversation is a rich exploration of how to start small in finding a therapist, how to care for ourselves when we’re disappointed (like when we think a pandemic is going to be over and it does the opposite), and how the brain works under stress. Helpful Companion Links Learn more about Aundi’s work on her website and follow her on Instagram @aundikolber Get her book Try Softer and grab the Try Softer Guided Journey (releases October 5th) If you want more resources from Aundi, check out her free companion video series for the Try Softer Guided Journey. To find a therapist, go to psychologytoday.com and use their filter system to name what matters most about your therapist or to emdria.org for therapists who specialize in EMDR. Aundi recommends choosing three therapists you're interested in and requesting a free 20-minute consultation to see if it's a good fit. Most therapists offer this. If finances are a hindrance, ask therapists if they have a sliding scale. This podcast is hosted by Kendra Adachi and executive produced by Kendra Adachi, Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey.
