From Communion to the End of Mass Divine Lord! thou hast at length satisfied the earnest desires of my heart. I possess thee, I embrace thee ; make me entirely thine. Jesus ! thou who constitutest the happiness of the blessed ! is it possible that thou art at this moment present in my heart ! Yes I firmly believe that I possess thee, with all the treasure of thy merits. O most sacred Virgin! who so long bore, and so fervently loved the God I now possess, praise and magnify his goodness. Offer him for me those joys which filled thy pure soul at the moment of his incarnation in thy sacred womb, and assist me to make some return for his un-bounded mercies. Remember, divine Lord! that one visit from thee would suffice to sanctify the greatest sinner: permit not then that I should receive thee in vain; let not thy precious blood fall on my heart, without producing therein the fruits of virtue thou hast so long expected. Take me out of life this moment, rather than permit me to relapse into sin. Enlighten my understanding, inflame and animate every affection of my heart, that I may be attentive to these miracles of mercy and love. give me to understand the breadth, and length, and height, and depth (Ephes. in. 18) of that love which will soon veil thy glories under the humiliating forms of bread and wine ! that my heart were penetrated with ardent love, that I might be enabled to acknowledge less unworthily thy infinite greatness and boundless mercies. Prostrate in spirit before that throne of glory where the cherubim and seraphim, with all the heavenly host, adore thy awful Majesty, I implore thee to receive my homage, in union with the transports of admiration and love with which they incessantly proclaim that thou art Holy, Holy, Holy, and that the Lamb which was slain is worthy to receive power, and divinity, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and benediction, forever and ever. From the Canon to the Elevation Ah ! my God, why do I not sigh for thy coming on this altar, with as much ardour as did the ancient patriarchs and prophets ; with as much pure desire as thy blessed Mother, the first and most perfect adorer of thy sacred humanity. I offer thee my heart, soul, mind, strength, desires, and affections, in union with the admirable dispositions of thy saints; but particularly in union with the love and devotion of that incomparable Virgin, in whose pure soul, prepared by thy divine spirit, and adorned with the treasures of thy grace, thou didst delight to dwell. I offer thee, to atone for my coldness and tepidity, her sacred heart, with all the love with which it ever was, and for all eternity will be, animated. Divine Jesus ! thou art now glorified by the homages of numberless angels who invisibly assist at these sacred mysteries. how should their adorations and love confound and humble me, since it is not for them, but for me, that thou art hidden and degraded on the altar ! holy Angels ! blessed spirits ! love and adore the Almighty for me, and redouble your ardours to supply for my insufficiency. From the Elevation to the Pater Noster Adorable Jesus ! the happy moment is fast approaching, when that sacred body which was immolated on the cross will abide in my heart, and that precious blood which was shed with so much anguish for my ransom, will be really and truly applied as a sovereign remedy to my soul. My God ! is it possible that thou, whom the heavens cannot contain, will confine thy greatness within the narrow limits of my heart; that thou, before whom the angels themselves are not pure, will unite thyself to a soul like mine, disfigured and defiled with innumerable crimes ! Lord, with the most sincere conviction of my wretchedness, I protest with the centurion, that I am not worthy thou shouldst enter under my roof. — St. Matt. viii. 8. Shall I then say with St. Peter : Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful creature? — St. Luke, v. 8. Shall I depart from this sanctuary, which I am unworthy to enter, and relinquish that happiness, for which my soul sighs, but which I shall never merit ? Ah ! no, my divine Saviour ! I will not leave thee, for to whom should I go but to thee? Hast thou not invited all that labour and are heavy laden (St. Matt. ix. 28) to approach thee! Therefore, not- withstanding

From the Beginning of Mass to the Gloria Divine Jesus ! Mediator of the New Testament I who didst ascend into heaven, to appear in the presence of God for us, (Heb. ix. 24.) yet daily descendest on our altars, to renew that sacrifice by which we were all redeemed, mercifully penetrate m y heart with a just sense of the happiness and the advantage of assisting at a sacrifice, by which I can abundantly satisfy the justice of God, honour his divine Majesty, acknowledge his infinite mercies, and obtain the graces necessary for serving him on earth and enjoying him in heaven. Permit me, O divine Jesus ! to ascend this new Calvary with thee, that my whole soul may do homage to the greatness of thy majesty; that my heart, with all its affections, may acknowledge thy infinite love; that my memory may dwell on the admirable mysteries here renewed; and that the sacrifice of my whole being may accompany that which thou art about to offer. Alas! I am unworthy to join with thy minister in adoring thee ; I can neither feel the extent of thy blessings, nor acknowledge them as I ardently desire to do; but, O Lord ! be thou with me, that by thee, and with thee, I may worthily assist at these tremendous mysteries. From the Gloria to the Epistle SAVIOUR of my soul! how sweet is the hope, that thou hast absolved me from my transgressions : that thy sacred blood has washed them away ; and that thou art about to seal my pardon by the most precious gift thou canst possibly bestow. DIVINE Lord ! let this encouraging hope be realized ; say to my soul, that thou art her salvation. With the fervent penitent of the gospel, I cast myself at thy sacred feet ; let me hear with her, from thy own adorable lips, the consolatory sentence of peace and mercy; let me experience with her, the conviction that thou hast accepted my repentance, and granted me pardon. Alas ! I well know that I have neither her humility nor her contrition, her fervour nor her love to offer ; but, my God ! I venture to say, that my hopes are established on still surer grounds than would be those virtues, were I happy enough to possess them. If many sins were pardoned her, because she loved thee much, still greater crimes will be remitted to me, because thou hast infinitely loved me, a wretched creature. adorable Jesus ! in thy love and mercy I firmly trust ; deign then to do for me what is altogether above my strength and capacity; purify my soul, and prepare it for the reception of thy life-giving sacrament. At the Epistle & Gospel I believe, my God! every article proposed by the holy Catholic Church to my belief; and through thy grace I am disposed to die, rather than relinquish the precious gift of faith, which elevates me to the adoption of the Sons of God, and makes me heir and joint-heir with Jesus Christ. Eom. viii. 15, 17. I believe; O divine Lord ! penetrate my heart and soul with the entire import of these short but comprehensive words, and let them produce one of those prodigies of grace and conversion, which so often followed from similar confessions. I believe all thou hast revealed, without exception or reserve ; for thou hast the words of eternal life, and thou art likewise the way and the truth, St. John, 30 xix. 6. On thy unerring word I also most firmly believe that thou art really present in the august sacrament of which I am about to participate. what miracles are contained in this sacred and ever adorable mystery ! Incomprehensible as they are, I believe them all ; I adore thy omnipotence, which is a sufficient pledge of their possibility ; and thy boundless love proves to me, in an endearing manner, that they are real. Were my faith as animated as I hope it is sincere, my heart would be inflamed at the near approach of its heavenly guest, and every movement of my body and soul would be a transport of gratitude and ardent love. Come, then, Lord! thou art the God in whom I firmly believe. Come, for thou art the support and term of my hope, and thou art, by excellence, the adorable object of my most fervent love. Come, enliven and increase in my soul the divine virtues infused therein on my admission into the bosom of thy Church. Come, and purify my baptismal robe, that I may present myself before thee with a nuptial garment, and may not deserve to be excluded from the marriage feast. Greetings listeners of the Latin Prayer Podcast - today we will learn the Asperges Me - a prayer that I discovered first 7 years ago in a small prayer manual that I inherited and would say to myself whenever I left or entered my home and blessed myself with Holy Water from the little fount at our door. A few years later I discovered that this prayer is the great Antiphon that precedes the celebrating of a Traditional High Mass and it is glorious to behold. First Prayer Our Father - Hail Mary O Jesus Christ! Greetings! This is an Introduction to the Promises made to St. Bridget - the following Episode (53) will contain the prayers. Saint Bridget prayed for a long time to know how many blows Our Lord suffered during His terrible Passion. Rewarding her patience, one day He appeared to her and said: "I received 5475 blows upon My Body. If you wish to honor them in some way, recite fifteen Our Fathers and fifteen Hail Marys with the following Prayers, which I Myself shall teach you, for an entire year. When the year is finished, you will have honored each of My Wounds." Our Lord made the following promises to anyone who recited the 15 St. Bridget Prayers for a whole year: Promises I will deliver 15 souls of his lineage from Purgatory. 15 souls of his lineage will be confirmed and preserved in grace. 15 sinners of his lineage will be converted. Whoever recites these Prayers will attain in the first degree of perfection. 15 days before his death I will give him My Precious Body in order that he may escape eternal starvation; I will give him My Precious Blood to drink lest he thirst eternally. 15 days before his death he will feel a deep contrition for all his sins and will have a perfect knowledge of them. I will place before him the sign of My Victorious Cross for his help and defense against the attacks of his enemies. Before his death I shall come with My Dearest Beloved Mother. I shall graciously receive his soul, and will lead it into eternal joys. And having led it there I shall give him a special draught from the fountain of My Deity, something I will not for those who have not recited My Prayers. Let it be known that whoever may have been living in the state of mortal sin for 30 years, but who will recite devoutly, or have the intention to recite these Prayers, the Lord will forgive him all his sins. I shall protect him from strong temptations. I shall preserve and guard his 5 senses. I shall preserve him from a sudden death. His soul will be delivered from eternal death. He will obtain all he asks for from God and the Blessed Virgin. If he has lived all his life doing his own will and he is to die the next day, his life will be prolonged. Every time one recites these Prayers he gains 100 days indulgence. He is assured of being joined to the supreme Choir of Angels. Whoever teaches these Prayers to another, will have continuous joy and merit which will endure eternally. Merry Christmas and a Very Happy New Year to you and yours! On this 1st day of the year we have the gift of obtaining a plenary indulgence by publicly reciting the Veni Creator Spiritus! A plenary indulgence is the full remission of temporal punishment due for sins which have already been forgiven. The indulgence is granted by the Catholic Church after the sinner has confessed and received absolution. Indulgences draw on the Treasury of Merit accumulated by Christ's superabundantly meritorious sacrifice on the cross and the virtues and penances of the saints. They are granted for specific good works and prayers. To be capable of gaining an indulgence for oneself, it is required that one be baptized, not excommunicated, in the state of grace at least at the completion of the prescribed works, and a subject of the one granting the indulgence. You can gain a Plenary Indulgence for yourself or for a deceased person. But not for another living person, they have to get it for themselves. THE USUAL CONDITIONS: Receive Holy Communion on the Feast Day. Go to Confession (within 8 Days of the Feast Day). Have no attachment to sin. Ancient homily Holy Saturday - We present an ancient second century homily given on Holy Saturday by Bishop Melito of Sardis for reflection and prayer: The Lord's descent into the underworld Something strange is happening; there is a great silence on earth today, a great silence and stillness. The whole earth keeps silence because the King is asleep. The earth trembled and is still because God has fallen asleep in the flesh and he has raised up all who have slept ever since the world began. God has died in the flesh and hell trembles with fear. He has gone to search for our first parent, as for a lost sheep. Greatly desiring to visit those who live in darkness and in the shadow of death, he has gone to free from sorrow the captives Adam and Eve, he who is both God and the son of Eve. The Lord approached them bearing the cross, the weapon that had won him the victory. QUOD AUCTORITATE ENCYCLICAL OF POPE LEO XIII PROCLAIMING AN EXTRAORDINARY JUBILEE Venerable Brethren, Health and Apostolic Benediction. 1. That which We, by the Apostolic authority, have more than once decreed, that an extraordinary year of Jubilee should be kept throughout the whole Christian world, and the treasures of heavenly gifts, the dispensation of which is in Our power, should be thrown open to the faithful-that with the favour of God We have determined to decree for the ensuing year. The advantages of this step will not escape you, Venerable Brethren, who are so familiar with the spirit of the age and the temper of the time, but there is a special reason now which makes Our decision seem more than usually opportune. In view of the fact that in Our recent Encyclical Letter We pointed out how important it is that the States should conform as closely as possible to truth and the Christian ideal, it will easily be understood how fitting it is that We should now use every effort to excite men, or to lead them back to the practice of Christian virtues. For a State is what the lives of the people make it: and just as the excellence of a ship or a house is dependent upon the good quality and the right adjustment of its component parts, so, unless the individual citizens lead good lives, the State cannot keep in the path of virtue, and without offending. Civil government and those things which constitute the public life of a country come into existence and perish by the act of men; and men almost always succeed in stamping the image of their opinions and their lives upon their public institutions. In order therefore that Our teaching may sink into men's minds, and what is the great thing, actually govern their daily lives, an attempt must be made to bring them to think and act like Christians, not less in public than in private. 2. And in this matter effort is the more needful because perils everywhere abound. This well known Catholic prayer dates to the early fourteenth century and was possibly written by Pope John XXII, but its authorship remains uncertain. The prayer takes its name from its Latin incipit, meaning "Soul of Christ". The Anima Christi was popularly believed to have been composed by St. Ignatius of Loyola, as he puts it at the beginning of his Spiritual Exercises and often refers to it. However, it has been found in a number of prayer books printed during Ignatius' youth and is in manuscripts which were written a hundred years before his birth. In the library of Avignon there is preserved a prayer book of Cardinal Peter De Luxembourg, who died in 1387, which contains Anima Christi in practically the same form as we have it today. This prayer was so well known and so popular at the time of Ignatius, that in the first edition of his Spiritual Exercises he merely mentions it, evidently supposing that the reader would know it. In later editions, it was printed in full. It was by assuming that everything in the book was written by St. Ignatius that it came to be looked upon as his composition. Anima Christi, sanctifica me. SUPERIORE ANNO ENCYCLICAL OF POPE LEO XIII ON THE RECITATION OF THE ROSARY Venerable Brethren, Health and Apostolic Benediction. Last year, as each of you is aware, We decreed by an Encyclical Letter that, to win the help of Heaven for the Church in her trials, the great Mother of God should be honoured by the means of the most holy Rosary during the whole of the month of October. In this We followed both Our own impulse and the example of Our predecessors, who in times of difficulty were wont to have recourse with increased fervour to the Blessed Virgin, and to seek her aid with special prayers. That wish of Ours has been complied with, with such a willingness and unanimity that it is more than ever apparent how real is the religion and how great is the fervour of the Christian peoples, and how great is the trust everywhere placed in the heavenly patronage of the Virgin Mary. For Us, weighed down with the burden of such and so great trials and evils, We confess that the sight of such intensity of open piety and faith has been a great consolation, and even gives Us new courage for the facing, if that be the wish of God, of still greater trials. Indeed, from the spirit of prayer which is poured out over the house of David and the dwellers in Jerusalem, we have a confident hope that God will at length let Himself be touched and have pity upon the state of His Church, and give ear to the prayers coming to Him through her whom He has chosen to be the dispenser of all heavenly graces. For these reasons, therefore, with the same causes in existence which impelled Us last year, as We have said, to rouse the piety of all, We have deemed it Our duty to exhort again this year the people of Christendom to persevere in that method and formula of prayer known as the Rosary of Mary, and thereby to merit the powerful patronage of the great Mother of God. In as much as the enemies of Christianity are so stubborn in their aims, its defenders must be equally staunch, especially as the heavenly help and the benefits which are bestowed on us by God are the more usually the fruits of our perseverance. It is good to recall to memory the example of that illustrious widow, Judith - a type of the Blessed Virgin - who curbed the ill-judged impatience of the Jews when they attempted to fix, according to their own judgment, the day appointed by God for the deliverance of His city. The example should also be borne in mind of the Apostles, who awaited the supreme gift promised unto them of the Paraclete, and persevered unanimously in prayer with Mary the Mother of Jesus. For it is indeed, an arduous and exceeding weighty matter that is now in hand: it is to humiliate an old and most subtle enemy in the spread-out array of his power; to win back the freedom of the Church and of her Head; to preserve and secure the fortifications within which should rest in peace the safety and weal of human society. Care must be taken, therefore, that, in these times of mourning for the Church, the most holy devotion of the Rosary of Mary be assiduously and piously observed, the more so that this method of prayer being so arranged as to recall in turn all the mysteries of our salvation, is eminently fitted to foster the spirit of piety. 3. With respect to Italy, it is now most necessary to implore the intercession of the most powerful Virgin through the medium of the Rosary, since a misfortune, and not an imaginary one, is threatening-nay, rather is among us.The Asiatic cholera, having, under God's will, crossed the boundary within which nature seemed to have confined it, has spread through the crowded shores of aFrench port, and thence to the neighbouring districts of Italian soil. - To Mary, therefore, we must fly - to her whom rightly and justly the Church entitles the dispenser of saving, aiding, and protecting gifts - that she, graciously hearkening to our prayers, may grant us the help they besought, and drive far from us the unclean plague. 4. We have therefore resolved that in this coming month of October, in which the sacred devotions to Our Virgin Lady of the Rosary are solemnised throughout the Catholic world, all the devotions shall again be observed which were commanded by Us this time last year. - We therefore decree and make order that from the 1st of October to the 2nd of November following in all the parish churches [curialibus templis], in all public churches dedicated to the Mother of God, or in such as are appointed by the Ordinary, five decades at least of the Rosary be recited, together with the Litany. If in the morning, the Holy Sacrifice will take place during these prayers; if in the evening, the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed for the adoration of the faithful; after which those present will receivethe customary Benediction. Salvete! Having done music at a Novus Ordo parish for 10 years I was always looking for a way to take older hymns and re-arrange them so that they were palatable by the modern day parishioner - I wanted to introduce the beauty of original hymns even though we didn't have an organ, I would find a way to adapt them. This particular arrangement has been sung by yours truly at countless Catholic retreats, NO Masses and when I led Worship at young adult Adoration nights. I plan on releasing more versions of this hymn but chose to save the organ for a more traditional arrangement. This is a favourite of my little ones at bed time - it has a lullaby feel to it. Easy to teach to your children and an uplifting melody to sing to our Lord when you are alone in Adoration or when you pass by a Church. Tantum ergo Sacramentum Veneremur cernui: Et antiquum documentum Novo cedat ritui: Praestet fides supplementum Sensuum defectui. SUPREMI APOSTOLATUS OFFICIO ENCYCLICAL OF POPE LEO XIII ON DEVOTION OF THE ROSARY Venerable Brethren, Health and the Apostolic Benediction. The supreme Apostolic office which we discharge and the exceedingly difficult condition of these times, daily warn and almost compel Us to watch carefully over the integrity of the Church, the more that the calamities from which she suffers are greater. While, therefore, we endeavour in every way to preserve the rights of the Church and to obviate or repel present or contingent dangers, We constantly seek for help from Heaven - the sole means of effecting anything - that our labours and our care may obtain their wished for object. We deem that there could be no surer and more efficacious means to this end than by religion and piety to obtain the favour of the great Virgin Mary, the Mother of God, the guardian of our peace and the minister to us of heavenly grace, who is placed on the highest summit of power and glory in Heaven, in order that she may bestow the help of her patronage on men who through so many labours and dangers are striving to reach that eternal city. Now that the anniversary, therefore, of manifold and exceedingly great favours obtained by a Christian people through the devotion of the Rosary is at hand, We desire that that same devotion should be offered by the whole Catholic world with the greatest earnestness to the Blessed Virgin, that by her intercession her Divine Son may be appeased and softened in the evils which afflict us. And therefore We determined, Venerable Brethren, to despatch to you these letters in order that, informed of Our designs, your authority and zeal might excite the piety of your people to conform themselves to them. 2. It has always been the habit of Catholics in danger and in troublous times to fly for refuge to Mary, and to seek for peace in her maternal goodness; showing that the Catholic Church has always, and with justice, put all her hope and trust in the Mother of God. And truly the Immaculate Virgin, chosen to be the Mother of God and thereby associated with Him in the work of man's salvation, has a favour and power with her Son greater than any human or angelic creature has ever obtained, or ever can gain. And, as it is her greatest pleasure to grant her help and comfort to those who seek her, it cannot be doubted that she would deign, and even be anxious, to receive the aspirations of the universal Church. 3. This devotion, so great and so confident, to the august Queen of Heaven, has never shone forth with such brilliancy as when the militant Church of God has seemed to be endangered by the violence of heresy spread abroad, or by an intolerable moral corruption, or by the attacks of powerful enemies. Ancient and modern history and the more sacred annals of the Church bear witness to public and private supplications addressed to the Mother of God, to the help she has granted in return, and to the peace and tranquillity which she had obtained from God. Hence her illustrious titles of helper, consoler, mighty in war, victorious, and peace-giver. And amongst these is specially to be commemorated that familiar title derived from the Rosary by which the signal benefits she has gained for the whole of Christendom have been solemnly perpetuated. There is none among you, venerable brethren, who will not remember how great trouble and grief God's Holy Church suffered from the Albigensian heretics, who sprung from the sect of the later Manicheans, and who filled the South of France and other portions of the Latin world with their pernicious errors, and carrying everywhere the terror of their arms, strove far and wide to rule by massacre and ruin. Our merciful God, as you know, raised up against these most direful enemies a most holy man, the illustrious parent and founder of the Dominican Order. Great in the integrity of his doctrine, in his example of virtue, and by his apostolic labours, he proceeded undauntedly to attack the enemies of the Catholic Church, not by force of arms; but trusting wholly to that devotion which he was the first to institute under the name of the Holy Rosary, which was disseminated through the length and breadth of the earth by him and his pupils. Guided, in fact, by divine inspiration and grace, he foresaw that this devotion, like a most powerful warlike weapon, would be the means of putting the enemy to flight, and of confounding their audacity and mad impiety. Such was indeed its result. Thanks to this new method of prayer-when adopted and properly carried out as instituted by the Holy Father St. Dominic-piety, faith, and union began to return, and the projects and devices of the heretics to fall to pieces. Many wanderers also returned to the way of salvation, and the wrath of the impious was restrained by the arms of those Catholics who had determined to repel their violence. 4.
