There are many vegetables that I love to grow and eat, but none is as rewarding as garlic. This simple little bulb can transform a meal from bland to bold with just one clove. Garlic has certainly become popular in the UK over the last few decades as people have become more adventurous with their food – unlike our grandparents’ time when meat and two veg was the thing. Written by Rob Smith, read by Rachel Atkins. This episode is supported by The Really Garlicky Company. The Allingham family have been growing garlic on their farm in the Scottish Highlands for 20 years. They specialise in producing their hardneck porcelain variety called ‘Doocot’, which is known for its large cloves and sweet smooth flavour. Cloves for autumn planting are available to order from their website https://www.reallygarlicky.co.uk
