TOPIC: Sikh veteran who fought and won the right for turbans to be worn in Canadian legions dies

95-year old Lt.-Co. Pritam Singh Jauhal died in Surrey last weekend and will be laid to rest Sunday. Jauhal had fought a public battle in 1993 with the Royal Canadian Legion after he was denied access to the Newton branch because he was wearing his turban, and at the time, the legion barred hats or headgear from entering. Jauhal penned a 2013 memoir with the forward written by now Canadian Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan. Andy Baryer from Get Connected is working on a documentary about Jauhal and even took the veteran back to the Newton branch he was once barred from entering on Remembrance Day 2015. Baryer will speak at his service Sunday afternoon at 2 pm at Valley View Funeral.
