Cape Town's tourism industry has faced a number of obstacles before. There was the West African Ebola virus epidemic (2013–2016) that, even though it was nowhere near Cape Town, affected travel to the region.
Then, of course, there was the Cape Town drought that saw bookings cancelled in massive numbers. We thought we had seen it all, but a year ago COVID-19 hit our shores and nothing could have prepared us for the devastation that this would cause to the sector.
