The South African Psychoanalytic Initiative was established in 2005 in order to contribute to the long tradition of psychoanalysis in South Africa. It is an active organization which supports the development of psychoanalytic psychotherapists and psychoanalysts in South Africa. An essential part of SAPI is to create cultural and political dialogues. The idea in these dialogues is aimed at sharing with a wider audience how psychoanalytic thought can intersect with different disciplines as a way of exploring and understanding our social and political context. Over the past years, we have had public discussions with William Kentridge, Haroun Gunn Sallie, as well as other theatre eventsand art exhibitions.
