PLOT; The day that Brian, a musician from the West Rand in Johannesburg, walked through our front door was a day like every other publishing day in this town. Except, of course, that once Brian, in his burgundy zoot suit, accessorised with a dicky bow and a pair of smoky fashion glasses, took out a tiny speaker from his pocket, cleared his throat and composed himself to sing something he’d written over the Covid period on Jacana Media and the power of reading African books, we knew that 31 August 2023 would be a day unlike any other publishing day. Brian’s visit was auspicious.
