Show Notes
Mauritius issued an appeal to the international community for emergency assistance in this unprecedented ecological catastrophe. On 7th August, nearly two weeks after the Japanese shipwreck, the Mauritian government declared the incident a national emergency. It is thought that more than 1,000 tonnes of fuel have leaked out of the ship and into the lagoon. Mauritius is a biodiversity hotspot with a high concentration of plants and animals unique to the region.
