- Today we interview Quentin Hurt the managing director at Skyside. He joins us to shed a light on the high levels of air pollution in and around Gauteng.
Guest: Quentin Hurt
Quentin studied Chemical Engineering. His Master’s thesis in water treatment techniques and enthusiastic supervisors led to a deep interest in industrial environmental issues. This led to the establishment of a business in environmental testing and ultimately a specialisation in air quality issues. His work involves understanding the issues at play in specific air pollution situations and then working with companies, community and government to monitor the situation with the intention of reducing the risk to people. He has worked in the field for 30 years and his projects, while focussed in southern Africa have taken him throughout Africa, to Canada, the US, Europe and Eastern Europe. He continues to find it a complex field and is very interested in the opportunities that citizen science and the use of new technologies bring to allowing people to manage and understand their personal exposure and control of the air they breathe.
