64 Years ago; 9 August 1956 about 20,000 women from different backgrounds marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria to petition against the country's pass laws. The march was led by Lillian Ngoyi, Helen Joseph, Rahima Moosa and Sophia Williams. The women left 14,000 petitions at the office doors of prime minister J. G. Strijdom. The last living member of the leaders of this march MAMA SOPHIA WILLIAMS -DU BRUYN was 18 years old on the day and the youngest of the women leaders.
