He then moves on to Brussels where the new Italian prime minister Matteo Renzi has been mounting a challenge to Merkel's domain as Italy assumes the EU presidency and prepares to exert greater economic influence. He discusses the possibilities with Paddy Agnew in Rome and Derek Scally in Berlin.
