Brexit talks between the British government and the Labour party resume today as MPs return to Westminster following the Easter break. Prime Minister Theresa May is on borrowed time and no closer to a deal with Jeremy Corbyn, after the EU extended the UK’s withdrawal period until October 31st. Meanwhile, the anti-Brexit party Change UK - The Independent Group has announced its candidates for next month’s European elections. London editor Denis Staunton outlines what the coming weeks may bring.
Later: Comedian Volodymyr Zelenskiy has promised not to let Ukrainians down and held up his country as a democratic example to all post-Soviet states, after claiming a crushing presidential election victory over incumbent Petro Poroshenko. Zelenskiy made a name for himself on TV playing a teacher who becomes president by a twist of fate. What will his real-life presidency mean for Ukraine’s key relationships with Russia and the EU? Daniel McLaughlin reports from Kiev.
