225: Wargroove, Auto Chess and "Surprise Mechanics" from EA
Did you all know you've had loot boxes wrong this whole time? They're actually called "surprise mechanics" and apparently they're quite fun. That's what EA says. We also jump into the turn-based strategy game Wargroove and discuss this new phenomena called "Auto Chess" that started as a mod and now has full games from the likes of Riot and Valve.

Brett and Austin give a new indie game a try called Wargroove. It's inspired by a game from the Gameboy Advance days called Advance Wars. This one takes a different spin by adding a medieval/fantasy theme to the gameplay. Austin also plays Planet Alpha. It's a side-scrolling game with gorgeous graphics and surviving and solving puzzles in a foreign world.
In our news, auto-chess is all the rage these days. Last week, Valve dropped Dota Underlords and Riot dropped Teamfight Tactics. Both are taking on the auto chess craze started by some modders in the game DOTA. EA says they're still committed to Anthem and Assassin's Creed has a story creator that has spawned several farming quests.
In our discussion, naturally EA is back in the news with their legal briefing in Europe where they were being questioned about loot boxes and gambling. Their representative said loot boxes are actually "surprise mechanics" and people find them to be fun and enjoyable. She said they are doing nothing unethical. It's funny to see such a large company changing their story so often.
