Show Notes
In 1987, scleroderma patient Sharon Monsky founded the Scleroderma Research Foundation with the belief that funding medical research was the best way to give hope to those living with this devastating disease. Sadly, since then, Sharon and many have passed away from Scleroderma but the fight for a cure continues thanks to folks like award winning chef, restaurateur, cookbook author, and radio and TV personality and just an all-around AWESOME PERSON...Susan Feniger! Susan was a close friend of Sharon’s in college and is a founding member of the Scleroderma Research Foundation Board of Directors...Susan is also behind their BIGGEST fundraiser, the annual, star-studded Cool Comedy, Hot Cuisine Oct. 29th...in Century City.
Aired October 27, 2024: In this podcast, Lisa Foxx and Susan talk all about this awful disease and what we can do to help those suffering from it. Scleroderma is a chronic autoimmune disease that causes the skin to thicken and harden. The name comes from the Greek words for "hard skin". Scleroderma can affect the skin, blood vessels, muscles, bones, and other internal organs. Scleroderma affects around 250 out of every 1 million people in the U.S. Women are four times more likely to develop scleroderma than men. It can affect people of any age, but systemic scleroderma is most commonly diagnosed in people between ages 20 and 50.
IT WILL ALWAYS BE IN THE SPIRIT OF SHARON AND OUR BELOVED FRIEND COMEDIAN BOB SAGET WHO LOST HIS SISTER TO THIS...
Cool Comedy, Hot Cuisine...an annual event featuring some of the world’s greatest comedians, musicians, and performers. With proceeds go directly towards the Scleroderma Research Foundation mission, supporting our cutting-edge research program & educational outreach.
