Aired October 29, 2023:Right now Los Angeles is experiencing the worst food insecurity crisis in the Westside Food Bank's history - 30% of Angelenos are food insecure and it's even higher in low-income communities. There is a misconception that the height of COVID was the height of hunger and food insecurity - that's not true - in July 2021 the rate of food insecurity was about just over half what it is now. The end of the COVID emergency meant the end of additional benefits that hurt even more folks but WE CAN HELP!
Lisa Foxx interviewed Genevieve Riutort, the President & CEO of the Westside Food Bank
in Santa Monica. They discussed all the ways they are able to help feed over 72,000 households EVERY YEAR! Their upcoming fundraisers help a lot too, like their Hunger Walk Sunday Nov. 5th, their Rock for Hunger Nov. 30th at The Viper Room and their annual SANTA Monica Pub Crawl Dec. 16th.
