S2 Ep 43Guest Episode from The Fire Inside Her on Connection, Community, & Collaboration -43

This week we are doing things a little differently! You get the opportunity to experience a Guest Episode from The Fire Inside Her Podcast with Diane Schroeder. I am sharing with you “Connection, Community, and Collaboration” which features a guest from Oregon (my home state, and where I currently live, so definitely a bonus). Diane’s podcast is part of the Authentic Connections Network, the podcast network I founded to address the lack of women’s voices in podcasting. Her podcast focuses on Self-Care, Authenticity, Community, and all the things that I know each of you cares about as well. This episode is just a taste, and she is already a few episodes into her second season, so there is lots of good stuff for you to discover. This week she is even featuring an episode on mothers and daughters, featuring a conversation with her mom.The beautiful thing about a network founded by a woman focused on amplifying women’s voices is that the focus is on making the workflow easier for women. Lifting each other and supporting each other. Some of this episode from Diane’s podcast talks about the support of other women and the magic that happens when we find and support community. Small warning that part of the authenticity on Diane’s podcast means it does get an E-rating so that she and her guests don’t feel guarded in the language they use. Very much in alignment with Brene Brown and keeping it real. So, if you listen with kids around and prefer that they don’t hear that language, wear earbuds! At the end of my intro, I also mention that I am launching a never-been-done-before model of the network where a cohort of women will launch their podcasts together after a summer incubator. If you have a podcast brewing or know someone who *needs* to amplify their voice and launch a podcast, have them get in touch with me! S2 Ep 41Sleep: The Cinderella of Good Health -41

Is sleep something you ignore? Something you think of as less important? Today’s guest refers to it as the “Cinderella” of good health for this very reason. It’s the thing we don’t pay attention to or notice, especially if it is going well. Sleep is something we take for granted. If you’ve gone through a period when sleep doesn’t come easily, you know how disruptive lack of sleep can be. However, you may not have given much thought to all the varied impacts it can have on your day and your health. We rarely see the line that connects sleep to so many other pieces of our life and our functioning.France Taylor shares valuable information in today’s conversation; everything from how you know when you have a sleeping problem to how much sleep you need and whether cherries or bananas might magically help us get our Zzzzzs. Frances Taylor is a Sleep Expert and Fellow of The International Stress Management Association (UK), with over 15 years’ experience facilitating resilience events in diverse settings, from Universities to international film studios. During her work Frances realized that there was a missing piece when it came to people’s health and wellbeing – the importance of sleep. She decided to devote herself to providing engaging and highly practical sleep programs drawing on clinically tested approaches that work. Her therapeutic practice is based on CBTi – Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia, the first line treatment in the UK and also highly rated in the States. Her online programmes and 1:1 coaching show people how to sleep well, work well, and live well within just a few weeks, without medication.Best ways to connect with Frances:Her website: https://sleepwell.todayLinked In: https://www.linkedin.com/in/francestaylor/Here’s the Sleep Diagnostic Tool Frances mentioned:https://sleepwell.today/sleep-diagnostic/You can also find her online course here:https://sleepwell.today/fundamentals-programme/We'd love to connect more with you.Grab your copy of our Self-Care Coloring Pages & get added to our mailing list. https://ColoringPages.TheGritShow.comFollow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/The.Grit.Show/Our Website has more information about us, all of our episodes, and all the transcripts:TheGritShow.com Are you ready to take that next step in your self-care journey? S1 Ep 40Emotions as Indicators -40

Did you know that an emotion only lasts 6 seconds? That's how long the chemical process takes. It may seem like it lasts a lot longer, but that's because that initial reaction can become a feeling which has some nuances. We'll touch on that concept today, but mostly we are going to dive into a concept that may be very unfamiliar to you. I know it is pretty foreign to me. It's the idea that our emotions, those chemical reactions, are sending us signals for our personal benefit. That those messages and signals are meant for us, personally. They aren't about the people around us, they are about *us*. When we have a twinge of a strong emotion, we need to stop and get curious as Will Halpin mentioned during episode #32 on IFS - and try to figure out what that emotion might be telling us. There is more to the story and the thought - check out the episode and let me know if it resonates as you start to apply it to what is happening in your world. I know I've been impressed with the things it has helped me uncover! Kicking Your Bucket List

bonus

If you are part of The Grit Show community, you are someone who knows a thing or two about the curveballs that life can throw at you. Shawna had a big curve ball thrown at her in the summer of 2021. Just as the pandemic was starting to wane and life had the potential of getting back to normal, the results of a medical test sent things in a bit of a tailspin. When you get a referral to a neuro-oncologist, bucket lists are the type of things that come to mind. Shawna's response to this may not be typical, but she hopes it's one that becomes the new norm. Hopefully, it's a response that you'll connect to and that might inspire you to look at things a little differently, and hopefully do things a little differently. This is a replay of the previously aired episode and includes a story from a listener of what it inspired them to do. Decision Making–Getting Past Overthinking and Overwhelm w/Kirsten Parker

bonus

Decision making. It’s something we do every single day, multiple times a day. I’m sure we’ve all seen that sometimes. It can be overwhelming, even debilitating; no matter how much we are keeping it together in other areas, sometimes we get tripped up. Fortunately, Kirsten Parker realized this was a common theme she saw with the people she was coaching and it became something she specialized in. Our conversation touches on her journey to look at the hard questions and make the decisions that led her into her current role, as well as a story from her clients, and talking about how this applies to you. If you are someone who can get overwhelmed and overthink, who has a hard time sticking to the decisions you’ve made or just likes to laugh along with an intriguing conversation—this episode is for you. We’ll talk a bit about purpose too, because The Grit Show has found that purpose is a topic that resonates with our community. Kirsten helps overthinkers trust their choices. She spent years moving her life & career forward, Yale Master’s Degree in tow, feeling way more angst than certainty! Despite “success and smarts,” she second-guessed big AND small decisions, over-valued others’ opinions & usually catastrophized about what could go wrong. Coaching allowed her to finally feel calm, clear & confident—so she could feel present in her life—and that’s exactly what she helps clients do now. Cherry Blossoms, Epigenetics, & the Intergenerational Effects of Trauma

bonus

This week, we are revisiting one of our highest-rated episodes as selected by our listeners. It’s one that new listeners will appreciate, or something worth a re-listen, as the concept is valuable to revisit. We get to talk about something you would see as innocuous under most circumstances: cherry blossoms. However, the science of epigenetics and the inheritable intergenerational effects of trauma are quite intriguing and may have you looking at these lovely markers of spring in a whole new way. Epigenetics is something I’ve long been interested in and although this field is young and full of room for debate, there are a lot of interesting facts and things we can learn from it.Some of my takeaways may not be the ones that are discussed in the mainstream but will give you some food for thought. I’ll touch on a couple of studies that are referenced below but will also talk about the lenses that this research can give us as we move through our days and interact with those around us. There are things we cannot fully know or understand, and although it’s hard to accept this, it can be powerful in building our relationships and our ways of interacting with others once we do. Article on study of the Epigenetic effects of the Dutch Famine: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/01/31/science/dutch-famine-genes.htmlStudy by Brian Dias and Kerry Ressler Parental olfactory experience influences behavior and neural structure in subsequent generations:https://www.nature.com/articles/nn.3594 You can follow and listen to episodes of either of these podcasts on your favorite listening platform - or find out more about them at these links: The Fire Inside Her https://thefireinsideher.com/podcast I AM MY passion project – launches 3/25/24 https://www.badass-silverstreak.com/home To learn more about the Authentic Connections Podcast Network and its audacious goal of 37 by 27 (increasing the number of women-hosted podcasts to 37% by 2027) head over to Instagram and follow the account - https://instagram.com/37by27 https://linktr.ee/37by27 also has a little more info and will be updated with the upcoming training opportunities! We'd love to connect more with you.Grab your copy of our Self-Care Coloring Pages & get added to our mailing list. https://ColoringPages.TheGritShow.comFollow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/The.Grit.Show/Our Website has more information about us, all of our episodes, and all the transcripts:TheGritShow.com Are you ready to take that next step in your self-care journey? S1 Ep 39Reflection, and What Works for You -39

It's time for reflection and looking at some useful lessons worth sharing, and today we look at 3. One of them is the importance of reflection, so we had to build that right into the title. Take your own adviceTime for Reflection is CrucialWhat works for you – may not be what works for everyone else. We'll look at each of these a little deeper with some real examples. We also use our Grit Wit to dive into how to apply them, as well as some other ways of thinking, to your own life and things you may be contemplating. You also get to hear more about the coming season of The Grit Show (yes! S1 Ep 37Lessons Learned on Vulnerability from Daring Greatly -37

This week we get up close and personal on a hard topic, vulnerability. Fortunately, we have Brene Brown’s book Daring Greatly to help guide us as we navigate through. If you haven’t read Daring Greatly, this barely scratches the surfaces and primes the pump, so if this episode connects with you, you’ll definitely want to add it to your reading list. If you have read it, this is a great opportunity to revisit the myths around vulnerability and to take a moment to reflect on how you are applying this to your life, and how you might look at things with new lenses and examples. We primarily focus on the vulnerability myths that Brene talks about in her book. Some are bound to feel familiar. Perhaps the myth you can go it alone? Or vulnerability is a weakness? We’ll even talk about some boundaries that go with vulnerability and figuring out who you can trust. I even trust you with some pretty stark examples of vulnerable points in my life. I’m sure it will bring to mind vulnerable points in yours and reinforce the relationships that were of value. We also take a moment to reflect on Shame and Shame Resilience, because no conversation around vulnerability, Daring Greatly, or Brene Brown would be complete without it. It is only a small reflection, so be sure to explore some of Brene’s other work or send me a note on where you should start if this connects with you and is something you want to explore further. If you are interested in reading “Daring Greatly” snag your copy here- https://bookshop.org/a/90599/9781592408412 Other Books by Brene Brown:Rising StrongThe Gifts of ImperfectionBraving the WildernessA little about your host –Shawna Rodrigues is an entrepreneur, author, and consultant who found the alignment of her many talents and passions in podcasting. S1 Ep 36Self Care & Person Centered Leadership w/ Michele Thomson -36

Michele Thomson loved nursing and didn't see herself moving into roles beyond that, but as challenges presented themselves, she stepped up. She discovered ways to address what was happening in her workplaces and found needs within her field that weren't been addressed. Self care was once a buzz word that she herself felt there wasn't time for, and even now will tell you it surprises her some of the things she has made space for as self care, that she never would have made room for a few years back. It was a process to realize that self care doesn't have to be about pampering yourself with pedicures and days at the spa; it is something you can fit in even with all of life's busyness, and it is very individualized. She now finds herself teaching these valuable skills to others. She also touches on some approaches to use at work when your team is feeling the stress and pressure and might feel like they can't give anymore. There are some great gems in this episode. Michele Thomson is an RN-turned-leadership development coach and consultant who helps professionals find joy in their work again while creating healthy workplaces. Guest Episode- The Fire Inside Her -Connection, Community, & Collaboration

bonusE

Connection is something we seek from the time we are children.Building friendships and finding connection is something that can seem harder as we get older, rather than easier. Yet, connection, community, and collaboration are things we all need. Trish and Diane found commonality in their roles as leaders in the fire service. With less than 1% of women occupying the roles they are in, it was valuable to find someone else with this shared experience The two have built a solid connection over time, and in this episode reflect some on how they have cultivated and found value in this relationship. They also touch on the journey of a leader and the importance of the community you create that can help to hold you up when times are challenging. They touch on some leaders they look up to, share some challenging experiences they have been through, and share the ways they have grown. Trish says it best, she is a ‘perfectly imperfect’ leader, and the most important ingredient is to always be authentic and embrace the uniqueness that you bring to the table and to the position.Trish Connolly lives in Bend, Oregon, with her husband, son, and highly anxious dog- Duncan. She loves all outdoor activities, including mountain hikes, snowboarding, and mountain biking. S1 Ep 35It Does Exist-The Relationship You Deserve w/Diane Schroeder & Josh Humphreys -35

Today we get a bonus of two episodes in one. We open with an individual conversation getting to know Diane; a powerhouse with lots of wisdom on the path to authenticity. We then get a chance to see another side of Diane when we get to chat with her and her partner Josh. The conversation is full of depth and touches on some of what brought them together and their perspectives on what makes their relationship work. At one point when Josh speaks of their ‘bedrock love’ I think anyone listening will either resonate with having it or knowing that is the level of connection and support they have been missing and searching for in a relationship. Josh and Diane don’t hesitate to share hard truths, but the feeling and understanding you’ll walk away with is that you do deserve a relationship that accepts you as you are and it is possible. They also give you guideposts and thoughts as how to put yourself in the right mindset; make the intentions, and do the work to make it possible. There is much to Diane Schroeder, MA, EFO; she is a national speaker, writer, and podcast host who focuses on helping leaders understand and appreciate the value of self-care. As a leader in the male-dominated fire service for over 20 years, Diane knows that practicing self-care enables leaders to find their authentic style, have a work-life balance, and increase productivity. She shares her wisdom with her community through email and her weekly podcast, The Fire Inside Her (www.thefireinsideher.com/podcast). Diane speaks around the country, is a TEDx speaker, and is currently working on a book about leadership. We chatted with her some about why self-care is important in leadership and learned more about the first season of her podcast. S1 Ep 32Do we suck at Internal Dialogue? A Proactive Look at Internal Family Systems (IFS) & Growth -32

I'm always intrigued by new ways of thinking and of looking at ourselves. Today we get an excellent dose of that. Internal Family Systems (IFS) has been around awhile, but in the last five years, I’ve heard more of my friends who are therapists mention it. I'm excited to have finally sat down with Will Halpin, LICSW, MPH to dive a little deeper and learn more. I’m impressed at how much value we squeezed into this episode. The conversation touches on:Why its called Internal Family SystemsWhat makes IFS different than other therapy modalitiesWhat removing constraints for optimal functioning looks likeThe analogy of an orchestra and your role as the conductorThe importance of selfThe eight Cs that makeup selfThe importance of getting curious about your responsesA little on protectors and exiles What IFS therapy looks like, both in a therapy session and when you are working through some of it on your own Will Halpin is a psychotherapist and public health social worker with over 20 years of experience working in community health center settings and in private practice in Boston, Massachusetts. Earlier in his career, he developed programs and a comprehensive curriculum with the Boston Public Health Commission to train providers on best practices in working with people struggling with crystal meth abuse and dependence. Most of his clinical experience has been working within the LGBTQAI+ population, and specifically complex/developmental trauma and substance abuse. He has trained in a variety of treatment modalities to offer a variety of options when working with survivors of trauma, including Internal Family Systems (IFS), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). He is currently training in neurofeedback to offer it as an additional treatment for trauma survivors at his private practice in Sturbridge, Ma. He also enjoys training new therapists who are learning IFS. When he is not at work, you can find him in the mountains, in a lake, or in the woods. S1 Ep 30Doing is in the Destination w/Jessica DeRose -30

Jessica DeRose has a powerful story, and in our conversation, there are a lot of unique pieces you might find resonance with. Jess is clear that walking away from her secure career as a teacher wasn’t courageous, it was necessary. As I listened to her share, she also clarified that, although her results are astounding, there were years of experience and effort that coalesced to make it all possible. Perhaps the key was walking away from the safety net and focusing on the next part of her path. Jessica has continued to find ways to evolve, even moving past her impressive role as a celebrity personal trainer, to find new ways to grow and give back. You need to hear her explain it, but her perspective on how your willingness to grow determines the growth of everything around you; is powerful. Our conversation is an excellent addition to your January arsenal of expanding your perspective and taking on 2023. Be sure to check out her reading vault, and learn more about The Digital Business Evolution, her way of inspiring change, making a massive impact, and leaving a lasting legacy.Since leaving her teaching job in 2017, Jessica turned her once “cute side hustle” into a multimillion-dollar business. S1 Ep 29Intuitive Eating- Acceptance and Resolution Outside of Diet Culture w/ Linh Phan -29

Did you know that 95% of diets are unsuccessful? It can be harder to comprehend this when following the regiment that pushes the needle down on the scale for the short term. There is a billion-dollar industry telling us that if we just try this, or do that, or this, or that... we can shed those pounds. Anyone whose been on the roller coaster can identify with the fact it doesn't last. So, we are approaching things a little different, especially with the New Year upon us. Our guest today is Linh Phan, a body acceptance and intuitive eating coach, and founder of Bona Fide Life Coaching. Our bodies hold so much wisdom and information, but we have been trained not to respect our bodies and to ignore its messages (like hunger, fullness, and satisfaction). Instead, we pay attention to external sources that influence our behavior and feelings. When we listen to our bodies, we can become better aligned with what we *actually* want and need. The approach we learn about with Linh today is one that I think will resonate with many of you. She shares with us the focus of self-compassion and how to start paying attention to the signals our bodies are giving us. Linh grew up as a restaurant kid and food was a reason for her family to come together. It was, and always will be, a love language for her. However, Linh realizes that many people have difficult relationships with food and she has made it her mission to raise awareness around diet culture and the harmful effects it has on people’s physical and mental health. Linh works one-on-one with people who struggle with shame and guilt around eating and helps them find joy and peace with food – and themselves. Intuitive Eating is an anti-diet approach which encourages people to trust their bodies, be mindful of what they are eating, and to appreciate food without shame or guilt.I learned a lot today and really enjoyed my conversation with Linh, I hope you do as well!Connect with Linh Website: www.bonafidelifecoaching.comBe sure to get on her mailing list to hear more about group coaching later in 2023.Instagram: @bona.fide.lifeTikTok: @bona.fide.lifeHere's the Body Scan activity. So what happens when it is time to shift? S1 Ep 16Looking for Purpose? First Find Stillness w/Parm Saggu -16

Are you someone who feels a little lost, stuck, or alone in life? I am sure we have all had days and times where we have been in that place. That was where today’s guest was out when she found her own way to purpose and discovered her way of giving back to the world in a way that resonates with her. The strongest message I walked away from after today's interview was the importance of leading your day and your life by taking care of yourself. We talk about self care a good amount on this podcast, but its amazing how much we still need that reminder! It is the most important ingredient in finding our path and I enjoyed speaking with Parm about this and the journey she took as she sought out alignment. She taught us a little about why the practice of yoga is unique in how it can integrate changes into your life and how it continued to call to her until she heeded that call. Parm Saggu is a spiritual life coach for millennials seeking purpose and the owner and founder of Parm’s Yoga. A few years ago, she worked as a nanotechnology engineer and surrendered all of that to the intense pull she felt to make a bigger impact on the world. Her journey took her from feeling lost, stuck and alone in life to finding her purpose. S1 Ep 13Love Languages & Alignment in Relationships w/Bethany Ann -13

Today our focus is alignment in relationships, which quickly led to one of my favorite topics, the five love languages. I’ve always felt they were a valuable tool since I first discovered them fresh out of college. They do a lot to help you understand what you need so that your keep feels full and to understand that others around may need different things so that they can feel loved. We mostly speak about it in romantic relationships but touch on other applications and once you dive into this concept, there are many places that you can apply it as well.Bethany is our guest leading us in this conversation and she also talks about shared vision in relationships and understanding where you and your partner see yourselves and making sure you are on the same page. Throughout this conversation, you’ll see glimpses of the years I spent being a bit of a skeptic of the immense beauty and benefit having the right relationship can bring to your life. I am very blessed and grateful for the relationship I have and Bethany and I both talk a little about how limiting beliefs is the biggest thing that kept me and many others from having relationships that give so much back to their life and wellbeing. Bethany Ann is a love and relationship coach who specializes in helping divorced women find love again. She empowers them to attract divine, aligned love into their lives without the chase of dating apps. She works with them to rewire self-limiting beliefs and restore self-confidence and trust. Having been on her own spiritual journey for the past 5 years, Bethany understands what it takes to move from a place of fear and lack into a place of love and light. With over 10 years in the medical field, Bethany took her love of serving and helping others into a different space. Coaching was a natural fit for her, as her friends and family constantly turned to her for advice. You can often find her with her nose in a book, on the beach, or spending time with her family.Bethany’s Divorced Moms Date without Apps FB Group:https://www.facebook.com/groups/findyoursoulmate22Connect with Bethany on IG: https://www.instagram.com/bethanyanncoach/ Things we referenced in the show:The 5 Love Languages Quiz:https://5lovelanguages.com/quizzes/love-languageBook-The 5 Love Languages: The Secret to Love That Lastshttps://bookshop.org/a/We'd love to connect more with you.Grab your copy of our Self-Care Coloring Pages & get added to our mailing list. https://ColoringPages.TheGritShow.comFollow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/The.Grit.Show/Our Website has more information about us, all of our episodes, and all the transcripts:TheGritShow.com Are you ready to take that next step in your self-care journey? S1 Ep 12Defining our Words and our Path w/Belle Lockerby -12

Words. We use them every single day. We use some of them to define ourselves, perhaps reflexively. How often do we question those definitions? Do we know where they’ve come from? Why we choose them, who gave them to us? How often do we let those definitions grow and change? How often do they still fit where we are and who we are today? Do we check in with those nearest and dearest to us to see how they define some of these words, to see if our definitions are the same? All of this is a large part of our conversation with guest Belle Lockerby, author of The Words the Caterpillar Ate currently available for presale. S1 Ep 11Struggling to Make a Decision? Let go of the Agony in Overthinking & Overwhelm. - 11

Decision making. It’s something we do every single day, multiple times a day. I’m sure we’ve all seen that sometimes, it can be overwhelming, even debilitating; no matter how much we are keeping it together in other areas, sometimes we get tripped up. Fortunately, Kirsten Parker realized this was a common theme she saw with the people she was coaching and it became something she has specialized in. Our conversation touches on her journey to look at the hard questions and make the decisions that led her into her current role, as well as a story from her clients, and talking about how this applies to you. If you are someone who can get overwhelmed and overthink, who has a hard time sticking to the decisions you’ve made, or just likes to laugh along with an intriguing conversation—this episode is for you. We’ll talk a bit about purpose too, because The Grit Show has found that purpose is a topic that resonates with our community.Kirsten helps overthinkers trust their choices. She spent years moving her life & career forward, Yale Masters Degree in tow, feeling way more angst than certainty! Despite "success and smarts," she second-guessed big AND small decisions, over-valued others' opinions & usually catastrophized about what could go wrong. Coaching allowed her to finally feel calm, clear & confident – so she could feel present in her life – and that's exactly what she helps clients do now. S1 Ep 8TT To Do Lists- Friend or Foe? -8

Do you get overwhelmed by a seemingly endless to do list?I sure do. It has taken me awhile to develop strategies to manage this, and after being sent in a spiral this past week by trying to follow a well-intended suggestion to start digitizing my endless list of things to accomplish, take care of, and address... (which resulted in wasting half of my day and losing all focus) I drilled down and remembered the brass tacks of what actually works for me. After chatting with a friend or two, I thought you may find value in hearing it too. I'd love to hear your thoughts. I upload the transcript to Buzzsprout, but don't have that all archived on my website just yet. If you are having any trouble accessing the transcript and it would be valuable to have the steps or questions in the show notes - send me a DM on Instagram, I'll be more than happy to get them over to you. S1 Ep 7Music, Purpose, Clarity, & Flow w/ Eric Bauberger -7

Eric Bauberger, BS, CSCS, is a Holistic Life Coach and Motivational Singer-Songwriter. In an effort to be "successful", he pushed forward with a split life as a hustling personal trainer by day and a musician struggling with his purpose by night. But after the passing of his sister Jessica in 2018, he experienced a profound shift in his connection to himself and the Universe, which led him to a new purpose within his music and his desire to contribute to the collective. Eric was able to find a gift within the tragedy by applying the art of surrender and gratitude that he had been practicing for the simple sake of seeking relief from his chronic anxiety. These tools proved to be much more powerful than he perceived them to be. This not only granted him grace instead of grief, but an unshakable calling to pursue his dream as a musician in a bigger way than he ever imagined. He now runs his own life coaching business, EZENFLOW, works part-time, and infuses his original music and poetry into workshops that teach practical tools for living life more easily and with flow. The guidance he provides is ultimately to help others tune in to their most authentic selves by understanding the rhythms of the mind, body, and spirit and how to create inner and outer harmony.Shawna and Eric spoke about 16:46 The fact resourcefulness is more important than resources.27:48 Goals and acknowledging what might be blocking you.33:35 Seamless ways Eric integrates self care into his life.36:40 Three component process to move towards clarity & creating what you want. The guidance Eric provides helps others tune in to their most authentic selves by understanding the rhythms of the mind, body, and spirit and how to create inner and outer harmony. Best way to connect with Eric: https://linktr.ee/ezenflow https://ezenflow.com/ We put a pin in the band from earlier times Moon Days –check them out here - https://moondays.bandcamp.com/Stay Connected to The Grit ShowFollow on Instagram: @The.Grit.Show or Shawna @Shawna.Rodrigues.Grab your copy of our Self-Care Coloring Pages & as a bonus, you’ll get weekly email reminders when episodes come out!https://ColoringPages.TheGritShow.comYou can also purchase the full-size gift worthy Color of Grit Adult Coloring Book here bit.ly/TGSMermaidReally love us and want to show it??Give us a review on your favorite platform and copy the link to this episode to share on social media! S1 Ep 6Fascinating Look at Generational Trauma: Cherry Blossoms Study, Epigenetics, & Future Hope -6

Welcome to Thursday Thoughts on The Grit Show. This week, we are chatting about something you would see as innocuous under most circumstances: cherry blossoms. However, the science of epigenetics and the inheritable intergenerational effects of trauma are quite intriguing and may have you looking at these lovely markers of spring in a whole new way. Epigenetics is something Shawna has long been interested in and although this field is young, and full of room for debate, Shawna feels there are a lot of interesting facts and things we can learn from it. Her takeaways may not be the ones that are discussed in the mainstream, but will definitely give you some food for thought. She touches on a couple of studies that are referenced below, but will also talk about the lenses that this research can give us as we move through our days and interact with those around us. If you have thoughts on this, we would love to hear them. Stacie McCoy is a compassionate divorce and co-parenting life coach with over 25 years of professional family support experience—and a pretty interesting divorce and co-parenting story of her own.
