133 episodes — Page 3 of 3
"Why forgive those who hurt you?"
I know someone who was hurt deeply by an abusive church experience. I shared with them the message of forgiveness found in Matthew 18. But I wonder if you have any other thoughts on forgiving people who have hurt you? A lady at my church keeps telling me that the Holy Spirit has new messages for me. She is scaring me, but at the same time, I wonder if I'm missing out on hearing from God! How do I keep my young children interested in Jesus?
"How can I share Christ with him?"
I'm dating a man who has a terrible temper and lashes out at me, then apologizes, then does it again. What are your thoughts? How do I share Jesus with my coworker who is from Syria? I feel like I've fallen away from God, and I'm afraid He's going to tell me to depart from Him. Can you help?
"We carry a treasure within us!"
My friend says Israel is the light, and she is really into Zohar. Can you help me with what I can say to her? Can you expound on the adventure of growing in grace? I'm beginning to see it's not about pressure or measuring myself. Can you talk about that?
Agape love? Hyper-grace? Biblical or dangerous?
Can true believers still struggle with fear? How do God's love and God's grace relate to each other? Why does everyone seem to agree about love but then divide over grace? Is the teaching about abiding in John 15 really about losing salvation? Why does Romans say the gifts and the calling of God are "without repentance"? This gospel is so incredible! I just want my friends to get it, and it's frustrating when they don't!
Perfect Love: Slamming the Door on Fear
Are you trying to love God… or letting Him love you? What if fear isn't something you overcome by effort? In this message, I tackle the lie many Christians carry: that fear is normal, that God is distant, and that courage comes from trying harder instead of trusting God's love. Scripture says something drastically different: perfect love casts out fear. Not later, not eventually, not if you do everything right—now. This is about a reality so solid it slams the door on fear because there's no room left for it. Check this out and discover how God's perfect love drives out fear. Discussion Questions for 1 John 4: Read verse 7 and react to this statement: Love is your spiritual DNA now. Read verse 10. How do God's love and Jesus as propitiation relate to each other? Read verses 13 and 15. How do these help us understanding "abiding" with clarity? Read verses 17-18. What does God's love mean for judgment and punishment? Read verse 19. Should we be producers or receivers? Explain. Read verses 11 and 21. How do we interpret "ought" and "should" in light of grace? What was your biggest takeaway from this message on God's love for you?
"How can I be a doer of the word?"
I'm so grateful for God's grace! What does it mean to be a "doer of the word"? Why did a man sacrifice his own daughter in Judges 11? Is Jesus the Father?
Fresh anointing? "Esau I hated"?
Do we ever need a fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit? What does "Jacob I loved, Esau I hated" mean in Romans 9? What about the hardening of Pharaoh's heart? And aren't these evidence of God pre-selecting individuals for salvation? How bold or careful should we be in sharing our faith with our children as they grow up?
"Examine yourselves? Get right before going to the altar?"
What is baptism in the Holy Spirit? When does it happen? Are we supposed to examine our recent sins before we take communion? And why does Paul say to "test yourselves" in 2 Corinthians 13? Finally, what about Jesus saying to get right with others before you go to the altar?
"How do I find God's will?"
I'm struggling with the challenge of trying to do God's will. I want to walk in obedience, pray about everything, and try not to get ahead of God. So many people think you can walk away from Christ and they use 1 Timothy 4, and 2 Peter 2, and Hebrew 6&10 to argue their case. What do you say about all of those?
"Does a wall of sin build up over time between us and God?"
I felt sick while watching a movie scene, so I walked out. What was that exactly? Grieving or quenching the Spirit? Or was it my own spirit provoked within me? Or my conscience? And what if I had remained in the theater? Would my ministry effectiveness be blocked until I confess it? Does a wall build up between us and God when we sin? What are your thoughts on the spiritual disciplines?
"How do we walk by faith? How do we walk by the Spirit?"
How do we walk by faith and not by feelings? Aaron made an excuse for his sin, and God didn't punish Him? How can I know that God's gospel promises are for me individually? What do you think of Billy Graham? Is the Bible on audio a good approach to learning more? How do we walk by the Spirit consistently? What tools do we need? My wife and mother passed away on the same day a year ago. I can't help but think sometimes that it was God trying to tell me something; and it's just a lot to grieve all at once.
Honoring Jesus
Here's the secret to enjoying God's love… Discussion Questions: What does the average person think it means to "honor Jesus"? What does it really mean to honor Him? And His finished work? How do we honor the cross? The blood? How do we honor God's grace? Our freedom? How do we honor our union with Christ? Our newness? Our closeness? React to this statement: Honoring Jesus means we stop asking for what we already have in Him. React to this statement: Honoring Jesus is the secret to enjoying God's love. What kind of confidence springs forth when we honor Jesus?
Is the finished work of Christ "just semantics"?
What is modalism? How do I convince someone to abandon it in favor of the Trinity? I'm a newlywed, and I want my husband to understand the message of God's grace to the fullest. What can I do? My youth pastor seems to be teaching some things that don't quite align with the gospel. How can I handle that?
Why ask for what you already have?
How is forgiveness different in the old covenant versus the new covenant? What is the finished work of Christ? What is the significance of Jesus being seated at God's right hand? Why shouldn't we continue to ask for forgiveness? What should we do instead?
Do we "help" God? Do we have to "put Him first"? If so, how?
Why did Jesus tell people to "be perfect" when He knew we couldn't? What does it mean to have a new heart? A new spirit? What about our minds? Are they new or being renewed? I tell my friends that I don't have to help Jesus, and they look at me strangely. Am I right?
"Is the Sabbath about church on Saturday? Or Sunday? Or resting in Christ any day? Help!"
Do I have a guardian angel? My friend says I need to go to church and worship on Saturday to truly please God. He even says my salvation may depend on it. Is he right? What "generation" was Jesus talking about in Matthew 24? And what is preterism?
"Worse off at the end than they were at the beginning?" (2 Peter 2)
Who was Elihu in the book of Job? What is the main point in Job? My church only invited members to the Valentine's Day event. Where do we see church membership in the Bible? I'm confused by 2 Peter 2:20 and surrounding verses. Who is Peter talking about? Is this about false teachers, Christians, or both?
"Predestined to be conformed"?*
What are the spiritual blessings that we've been given in Christ? What does it mean to be "conformed" to the image of Christ in Romans 8? Do we need to agree with everything that Israel ever does out of fear of being cursed (Genesis 12)? What does it mean to be unequally yoked? Doesn't Genesis 9 teach that we will be punished for taking a life? How does that reconcile with our forgiveness in Christ? *previously aired
The Questions that Change Everything - Part 2
What if everything you've been taught about trying harder in your Christian life… is exactly what's keeping you stuck. In The Questions that Change Everything - Part 2, we dive deep into the most important questions about the Holy Spirit, judgment, and disappointing God. And the surprising answers bring a newfound liberation in Jesus. Most teaching tells you to push harder, try again, don't slip up. But what if that's exactly the approach that makes things worse? Check out this message to discover a way of living that's not about force… but about freedom—a Christianity that feels "easy and light" because it's rooted in Jesus, not performance. Discussion Questions: What does it mean to be "led by the Spirit"? What does it mean to "walk by the Spirit"? What exactly happens when we commit sins? Can we disappoint God? If we are totally forgiven, what will we be judged for? Why does religion make God feel distant when He's not? Is Christianity really supposed to feel easy and light?
"God's grace excites me!"
One pastor said giving from the heart is the same as "sacrificial" giving. Is that a good way to describe it? How would you counsel someone who is committing sexual sin? Would you still tell them they're "once saved, always saved"? What do they need to hear and believe for real change? I'm so excited now, because God's grace is more than awesome!
"What is Revelation really about?"
Finally, I no longer question my salvation! How can we best understand the book of Revelation? I can't find a church that teaches grace. What should I do? It seems like so many worship songs don't really reflect the truth of the gospel. What can churches do about that?
"My wife and son died. Are they saved?"
What does it really take to be saved? I keep hearing mixed messages on the internet. My wife and son have passed away, and I'm very concerned. I struggled all my life with religiosity, but God's grace has set me free! How much theology do you have to have right to be saved? How do you reconcile "born of water" (John 3) with water baptism (Acts 2:38)?
"Am I qualified to minister to others?"
What is the main point of the book of Job? I've heard we can walk away from Christ. Is this true? I want to start encouraging people with the truth of God's grace online. Do I need to wait until I'm a church member? In Acts 8, was Simon the sorcerer a true believer? How could he be so deluded about buying the Holy Spirit?
"Will my sins block God's blessing?"
I'm of Jewish descent. Do I need to be under the Law? My church keeps asking me about membership. Do I need to be a member? I've been struggling lately, and I worry my sins might prevent God from giving me a breakthrough. How can I know for sure what my purpose is in life?
"Predestined to be conformed"?
What are the spiritual blessings that we've been given in Christ? What does it mean to be "conformed" to the image of Christ in Romans 8? Do we need to agree with everything that Israel ever does out of fear of being cursed (Genesis 12)? What does it mean to be unequally yoked? Doesn't Genesis 9 teach that we will be punished for taking a life? How does that reconcile with our forgiveness in Christ?
The Questions that Change Everything
Questions That Challenge Everything About Sin and Grace What if the biggest problem in your Christian life isn't your lack of effort or discipline? What if it's the questions you've been asking? But what if those questions are keeping you stuck? This message challenges some deeply ingrained assumptions and asks questions that may feel unsettling at first—but end up being incredibly freeing. This message may stretch you (in the best way possible!). You'll see what happens when the focus shifts from trying harder… to trusting Jesus even more. Discussion Questions: As a believer, do you want to sin or not? Explain. What exactly is the flesh? How is it not you? If you're totally forgiven, why do you still feel so guilty at times? Where does repentance factor into the finished work of Christ? Why does "trying to obey God" often make you sin even worse? What does it mean to "walk by the Spirit"? Why do people think too much grace causes sin?
"What's the unforgivable sin?"
Have you ever noticed that Jesus talks about the "unforgivable sin" with religious leaders? What does "only Israel have I known" mean in Amos 3? Why did Jesus say He wasn't going to the feast in John 14 if later He went? What are your thoughts on the Ten Commandments in the life of a believer?
"Both Jesus and sin live in us?"
Do we have Jesus and sin living inside us at the same time? I'm starting to see issues with the message at my church, but I really love the people. What should I do? What's the meaning of Romans 3:30? How does it relate to the mixed message we see today?
"My mom died in the midst of an addiction. Was she not saved?"
What does it mean that all the promises are yes in Christ? I heard that you're not truly saved if you can't overcome every struggle. Is that true? If we die with unrepentant sin, are we still forgiven? Isn't it amazing that God has time for each one of us? That's the beauty of Christ in you!
"I posted about God's grace, and they told me to be quiet!"
Why does the book of Hebrews belong in the New Testament? Why did people in the Old Testament live so long? My wife posts about grace on social media, and some people are telling her to be quiet. Is that what 1 Timothy 2:12 is really about? I know God has forgiven me, but how do I forgive myself?
Does faith grow? What's "filled with the Spirit" mean?
How should we view Paul's instruction about clothes and jewelry today? Can our faith grow? What's the best focus for us as believers? What does it mean to be filled with the Spirit? What about the many places in the book of Acts where people are filled and doing things?
Levels of Heaven? Rewards? Crowns? Tithe to be blessed?
I experience social anxiety, and now I need to get back to work in an office. What can I do? I had a dream and was continually asked, "Why do you keep going back to the cross?" What does it mean to have the life of Christ within us? Are there levels of Heaven? Levels of rewards? What about crowns? I have tithed for 10 years and have been blessed by God. I want to encourage others to do the same. Your thoughts?
When God Replaced Religion: Why 'New' Means Never Going Back! - Part 2
Why Do We Keep Running Back to What God Replaced? They'll tell you to slow it down. Add nuance. Keep it balanced. Because if grace is that simple… it must be dangerous. But the New Testament isn't confused. In this message, we let Scripture speak without filters, qualifiers, or religious disclaimers. Christ ended the old covenant. The old way was set aside. The wall came down. And if you're led by the Spirit, you're not under Moses—period. If you're exhausted from "Jesus + something," tired of the spiritual treadmill, or suspicious that "balance" might just be bondage with a smile—this message is for you. No nuance. No balance. Just Jesus. Discussion Questions: Despite the overwhelming evidence in Scripture, why do you think so many push for a combination or balance of old covenant and new covenant? Set aside. Weak. Useless. Taken away. Cast out. Abolished the enmity. These are the expressions used to describe the old covenant. What do they say to you about your relationship with God? Explain. Died to the Law. Not under the Law. Released from the Law. Christ is the end of the Law. What do these NT expressions say to you about your relationship with Moses? Explain. How do your answers to #2 and #3 fit with "all Scripture is inspired" (2 Tim. 3:16) and the fact that the whole Bible is useful to us today? Led by the Spirit. Not mastered by sin. Serve in a new way. Bear fruit for God. How do these NT expressions respond to those who suggest we're only free from the Law for salvation but not for daily living? Is the Old Testament law written on believers' hearts? Explain. If your answer is "no", then explain what is actually written on our hearts? Also, who then is Romans 2:14-15 actually talking about? React to this statement: Many just can't imagine a way to be godly that doesn't involve the Ten Commandments.
