As a native to New Jersey, Emily Winston always looked forward to the days when her father would bring home H&H bagels after a long day of business in New York. After moving to the west coast and learning that H&H went out of business in 2011, Emily was devastated and became determined to recreate the bagel that she remembered cherishing as a kid. After 5 years of trial and error, Boichik Bagels was born. 

 

Today, Emily joins Sarah on the podcast to share how she is building a bagel empire on her own terms. From testing her recipe on friends and family and launching at the Eat Real Festival in 2017, to opening her first retail space and now growing that to a multi-location operation, Emily walks us through it all. 

 

You will hear how Emily:

  • Developed the perfect bagel recipe
  • Tested to find out if there was a market for her premium product
  • Ran the numbers and sold HERSELF on her business plan
  • Approached funding in a creative way when she didn’t like what the Banks were offering
