Andrea Olson of Go Diaper Free explains elimination communication - the concept of pottying your baby, as early as birth - which is what people have done for all of human history and in today's world where there are no diapers. She makes it easy to integrate EC into your modern lifestyle as a new parent, demystifies how to know your baby needs to go, how to take them to the toilet instead of primarily relying on the diaper, and makes EC approachable, accessible, and fun, for all parents...whether part-time, with or without diapers, and in any region of the world. Contrary to popular marketing messages, diapers are tools, not toilets, and babies are ALL born "ready" to use the toilet. Learn how to connect with your baby on this very natural level with Andrea's expert guidance, and experience the freedom of a life without dependence upon diapers, a life without traumatic toilet training, a life where your baby gets a head start on developing motor skills, communication, and learning by prioritizing this age-appropriate skill (0-18 months). EC honors your baby's dignity and makes parenting THAT much easier! Stop changing blowouts...and learn how to listen to your baby's requests for good hygiene. Learn more at godiaperfree.com. (PS - Andrea also occasionally covers potty training, for those of you who find us after 18 months.)

Ep 107#107 Stone Age

What does the Stone Age have to do with EC? In this episode, I'm applying The Continuum Concept to elimination communication — and it might totally reframe how you see potty learning. Before disposable diapers, potty charts, and formalized "training." There was just… responding to babies. We'll talk about what our ancestors likely did, how modern culture shifted things, and why EC actually makes a whole lot of sense when you zoom way out. Ep 106#106 Stealth pooping

You know the look: they get quiet, they disappear, maybe they hide behind the couch. And by the time you realize what's happening… it's too late. If you've got a stealth pooper on your hands, this episode is for you. I'm sharing 4 simple ways to handle the hiding, the sneaking, and the "don't look at me while I poop" phase — without turning it into a battle. When do most babies start? When are they out of diapers? What do families struggle with most? In this episode, we dig into the real data on exactly what families are actually experiencing. Ep 104#104 EC and...toothbrushing?

Why do we treat potty learning like a huge event, but toothbrushing like no big deal? We don't bribe for brushing, we don't panic over missed spots. We just… keep doing it. In this episode I'm sharing why EC (and potty training) works better when we treat it like a normal daily habit — not a high-stakes milestone. Ep 103#103 EC at the beach

Thinking about heading to the beach with your baby but wondering how on earth EC is supposed to work in the sand? Sun, snacks, naps, salty air… and potty cues? If you've ever thought, "Should I just throw on a diaper and forget it?" — this one's for you. In this episode I'm sharing how to stay diaper-free at the beach how to handle pees and poops without stress and what to bring so you're not scrambling mid-splash. Ep 98#98 Observation + Intuition = Success

When people start EC the hardest thing to explain is "potty intuition". Because what do you mean you just sense that baby needs to pee?? That's why I always teach intuition WITH observation. It's much easier to just note down your baby's signals, or the last time they peed. This week's episode is a guest post from one of our coaches, sharing about the ways that intuition and observation work together to make the ultimate EC combo. Ep 96#96 When will my baby resist the potty?

When starting elimination communication with your baby, you probably have a bazillion questions, like: How often will my baby need to pee? When can I expect my baby to be potty independent? I've heard about potty pauses - when can I expect my baby to resist the potty? And that last question, my friends, is what we're going to address today. Ep 94#94 Dream pee

I love changing wet bedsheets in the middle of the night – said no mom ever. In my potty training method, I advise parents to work on daytime dryness before worrying about sleep time. Is it ever a good idea to wake a sleeping toddler? Well…Sorta. They won't be fully awake, that's why we call it a Dream Pee. \If you want to learn about this trick that can actually help reduce the amount of wet sheets and keep your toddler dry all night, listen to this episode! Ep 93#93 Normalization

If you thought potty training a toddler was hard, what about training a whole class?? A few years ago I received an email from one of my Certified Coaches, Elizabeth, who was teaching toddlers in a Montessori classroom. You'd think that potty training would be absolute chaos when mixed with the wild swings of toddler emotions and behavior….But actually at 12-18 months, getting the potty skills down reduced tantrums and helped them to focus on learning other skills. Listen to this week's episode to hear about why this is a perfect age to potty train and how it helps normalize other dreaded toddler tantrums. Ep 92#92 Simplicity Parenting + EC

Today we're going to talk about the lessons I've learned from one of my favorite books, Simplicity Parenting by Kim John Payne, and how his advice can create a slower, more meaningful foundation to your elimination communication practice with that sweet lil baby. When I had my first child, Kim's book had just been published. I ate it right up! The book shared all the things I needed to hear at that time to create the family rhythms, calm space, and focused connection that I knew in my heart I wanted, but didn't quite know how to build. It also helped me keep the brand new, newly released iPhone out of my hands and my focus on my newborn baby. It helped me push back against the "toy creep" that has threatened our family for almost 10 years. Man, I owe Kim a giant thank you for writing this book. And I was thinking about it the other day, how this book informed my journey as a new mama, and wanted to share those secrets with you today...especially how they relate to infant pottying. The subtitle of this book is "using the extraordinary power of less to raise calmer, happier, and more secure kids." If that's what you want, let's dive in! Ep 91#91 Potty Training Triplets

Are you pregnant with multiples, just looking at the cost of diapers and wondering how the heck you'll afford them? Or maybe you're in the thick of potty training just one toddler (no easy feat either!) and you want some inspiration from a mom who has been there before… I've invited a real mom from my Go Diaper Free community who had triplets and encountered my potty training book just in time! Her story is proof that you don't need to use bribes or rewards to potty train your kiddos while giving them dignity and confidence. Ep 90#90 Infant Potty Training in Indigenous Arctica + America

This is the third part of my series sharing stories of different cultures around the world pottying their babies. Like I always say, it seems radical and unusual in our modern, Western context but in MOST of the world it's just how things are done! Join me for an eye opening journey into different ways infant pottying is practiced, and maybe get some inspo for your own EC rhythm. Psst. Ep 89#89 Constipation woes

This one is for those of you with babies/toddlers already eating solids. With solid foods comes, well, solid poops. Sometimes too solid. If you've noticed your LO hasn't pooped in a while or is really struggling with poops, there are a couple of reasons they might be constipated. Constipation can also cause other problems… Maybe they are refusing or avoiding the potty entirely. Maybe they're particularly irritable or clingy because of discomfort. Today we take a look at possible causes, as well as some things you can try to help ease that constipation! Ep 88#88 At what age can I potty train my child?

OK this is probably the question I get the MOST often… Have you been told you have to wait until your child is "ready", or that this happens at like 3 years old? What if I told you I pottied all 6 of my kids literally from day 1? If you think that's crazy, listen to this episode, because I need to tell you about THE most important paradigm shift when it comes to toilet learning and how it affects our babies. And if you think you want to get your LO out of diapers, but you're not sure how/when/why, I got you.
