Good evening! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the Georgia Weather Podcast for Tuesday, February 24th.
Folks — Georgia is absolutely **soaking** tonight. If you've been anywhere near a window today, you already know. We've had rain moving through since this morning. And it's not done with us yet.
Here's what's happening right now. Down in Atlanta, you're sitting at about 58 degrees with steady rain and gusty winds. That's **warm** for late February. And that warmth is part of the problem. A strong low-pressure system is pulling Gulf moisture straight up through the state. And it's dumping on just about everybody.
South Georgia around Valdosta and Albany? You've already picked up over an inch of rain today. And you're seeing some rumbles of thunder mixed in. Nothing severe, but it's loud enough to get the dog's attention. Macon and the middle part of the state are getting hammered too — heavy downpours are cutting visibility on I-75, so if you're heading out, **slow down** and give yourself extra space.
Up toward Dalton and the North Georgia mountains, temperatures are cooler — mid-40s — and you'll want to watch for some patchy fog developing overnight as that rain interacts with the cooler air. Blue Ridge could see things get **soupy** by morning.
Here's your heads-up for the rest of the week. This rain clears out by Wednesday afternoon. And then — oh, you're gonna love this — we get a gorgeous stretch. Thursday and Friday are looking sunny with highs near 65 in Atlanta. Perfect weather for finally getting outside and shaking off the cabin fever. Savannah pushes into the low 70s by Friday. That's practically spring knocking on the door.
But don't get too comfortable. Another system could bring showers back by the weekend. Classic Georgia February — can't make up its mind.
One quick note: with all this rain, creeks and streams are running high. Stay away from flooded roads tonight. It's never worth the risk, no matter how shallow it looks.
If you're heading out in the morning — that post-rain chill is real. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow. Take care, folks!
