Good afternoon! I'm Aaron Jolly. Welcome to the Georgia Weather Podcast for Monday, February 23rd. Folks, step outside right now and you're feeling 29 degrees. Frost on the windshield, breath hanging in the air. But here's what makes today interesting.. Winter and spring are arm wrestling across the state. And neither one wants to let go. Down in Metro Atlanta, you're only climbing to 40 degrees around 3 PM. Northwest winds at 10 to 15 miles an hour, gusting to 30. That wind is no joke. By 2 AM, the thermometer reads 28 but it feels like 19. Tomorrow morning at 7 AM? A bitter 25 degrees. Slide east and things warm up a touch. Eastern Georgia hits 49 degrees around 4 PM. Winds shift from northwest to north by 8 PM. But overnight? Lows crash to 26. That's cold enough to catch you off guard after last week's taste of spring. Now the coast. Savannah and the islands reach 50 degrees by 4 PM, with gusts to 17 miles an hour around 11 AM. Sounds pleasant, right? By 5 AM it feels like 22 degrees. Freeze warnings are up across southeast Georgia tonight. Lows near 28. And speaking of southeast Georgia, you'll want to pay attention to this. Red flag warnings and fire weather watches are active through tonight. Humidity drops to 20 percent. Winds gusting to 30 miles an hour. Any spark becomes a wildfire. Don't burn anything outdoors today. Period. Also, cover those pipes and bring pets inside tonight. The week ahead tells a wild story. Tuesday thaws into the 50s statewide. Then Wednesday.. The 60s arrive like a gift. Atlanta hits 61. The coast touches 67. Thursday, rain and possible thunderstorms roll in from the northwest. Friday stays wet, especially north of I-85, where some spots could see over an inch. The weekend dries out with sunshine and highs near 70. I'll be tracking that Thursday storm system closely tonight. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow. Take care!
