Good evening! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the Georgia Weather Podcast for Sunday, February 22nd.
Folks, Georgia is about to pull off a 60 degree temperature swing in three days. Let that sink in.
Right now you're sitting at 46 degrees under clear skies. Sounds nice, right? Don't get comfortable. Gusts up to 40 miles an hour are still ripping across the state. If you've got patio furniture that isn't tied down, tonight's the night it goes on an adventure.
Down along the coast, you'll top out near 52 degrees this afternoon. Then the bottom drops out. By 6 AM Monday, you're at 31 degrees. Winds shifting from northwest to west around midnight will make it feel like 20 degrees by dawn. There's a Cold Weather Advisory in effect overnight. Cover exposed skin or don't go out at all.
Over in eastern Georgia, highs reach 50 this afternoon before crashing to 29 by 8 AM. Steady northwest winds around 14 miles an hour push the feels like temp down to 19 degrees. That's frostbite territory if you're lingering outside without layers.
Now up in metro Atlanta. You'll hit your high of 44 degrees around 5 PM. Then freefall. By 8 AM Monday, you're at 25 degrees. But here's what bites. Northwest winds at 16 miles an hour make it feel like 24 degrees by 5 AM. Your Monday morning commute is going to sting.
One more thing before you settle in. Red Flag Warnings are active for southeast Georgia. Winds plus low humidity equals wildfire risk. No outdoor burning today.
The week ahead tells quite a story. Monday we bottom out. Highs barely crack the low 40s with wind chills stuck in the teens. Tuesday the rebound kicks in with mid 50s. Wednesday flirts with 60 degrees. Then the plot twist. Rain sweeps in Thursday and Friday with highs near 70 degrees. From wind chills near 24 degrees to nearly 70 in three days. Only in Georgia.
Oh. And sunset tonight is 6:29 PM. We're gaining two extra minutes of daylight. Small victories.
I'll be watching this cold snap all night long. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow. Take care!
