Good evening! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the Georgia Weather Podcast for Monday, February 23rd.
Folks, tonight's story has a little bit of everything. Fire, ice. And a plot twist nobody asked for. Let's dig in.
Right now a Red Flag Warning is active across south and east central Georgia until 7 P.M. Tonight. Winds gusting to 30 miles an hour. Humidity below 25 percent. Drought conditions underneath all of it. If you're even thinking about burning anything outdoors.. Don't. One spark is all it takes.
And then the temperature flips the script on you. Freeze warnings blanket southwest Georgia overnight. Lows near 23 degrees. That's cold enough to crack exposed pipes and hurt tender crops. Protect your plants. Bring the pets inside.
Down in metro Atlanta, you topped out around 41 degrees today. Tonight you're dropping to 25. That wind makes it feel even sharper. Head southeast toward the coast and Savannah saw a milder 50 degrees, but gusty northwest winds kept it from feeling comfortable. Lows there settle near 27. Over in eastern Georgia, Augusta and the surrounding areas hit 49 today. Overnight? Down to 26.
Now here's where it gets interesting. Tomorrow a southwest wind kicks in and everything warms up fast. Atlanta jumps to 53 degrees. The coast and eastern Georgia push to 54. Fire danger still lingers though, so keep those burn piles on hold.
The real turn comes Thursday. A slow moving front drags in widespread rain. Thunderstorms are possible Friday, especially north of I-85. Some spots could pick up over an inch.
Looking at the rest of the week, the first half stays dry and mild. Wednesday feels downright pleasant. Then the rain takes over Thursday into Friday. But Saturday.. Sunshine returns and temperatures flirt with 70 degrees. February pretending to be April.
Layer up tonight. Your pipes and your pets will thank you in the morning.
That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow. Take care!
