Show Notes

While it's seemingly common for marriage to end in divorce, how common is it for divorce to end in murder? After a hostile marriage and a bitter divorce, Betty Broderick killed her ex-husband, Dan, and his new wife, Linda. In court, Betty never denied killing the couple, however, she argued that years of battles and abuse drove her to that deadly breaking point.

Criminal Defense Attorney Jack Earley represented Betty Broderick during the sensational trial. He discusses Betty's bitter marriage and divorce and reflects on his work during the high-profile case.

Jack Earley is a Certified Criminal Law Specialist by the State Bar of California. He is the founding President of the Orange County Criminal Defense Bar Association and an associate professor at the University of California, Irvine. He previously served as President of California Attorneys for Criminal Justice and currently serves as a co-chair for the CACJ Death Penalty Committee.
