Show Notes

(00:00 - 28:04) - How else could the Monday edition of Kevin & Query open than with the disappointing losses of Indiana and Purdue in the NCAA Tournament. Purdue being only the second #1 seed to fall to a #16 seed in the tournament. Jake comments on how Big Ten teams get too used to the Big Ten competition which doesn't translate to opponents from other conferences. The Boilermakers last loss was a flashback to last season when they were upset by another double-digit seed in St. Peters. Purdue got off to such a strong start because their star players experienced a huge bump in skill from last season, but once teams were able to adapt, they didn't have that same advantage. The IU Hoosiers just didn't play like a team that wanted to be there against Miami. The team didn't take advantage of what is likely their last season before a hard reset. Kevin & Query think that pretty much every IU star will be either graduating or declaring for the NBA Draft by next season.

(28:05 - 32:32) - Morning Checkdown

(32:33 - 45:27) - The first hour closes with speculation over whether or not Matt Painter will continue to be the Boilermakers head-coach next basketball season. Query believes that Painter's consistency in the regular season is testament enough to keep him for another season. Player development and high-profile wins are clearly a strength of Painter, and figuring out March is just the final step. Kevin thinks that some sort of late season gameplan change is necessary to become a strong and unpredictable team. What percentage of Purdue fans truly want Matt Painter fired?

(45:28 - 1:14:00) - Miami always had an answer for IU last night. The Hoosiers just never had a leg up from the word go and it showed. IU fans went all in on this tournament and to see players potentially not be as invested as you are in the team's success is a disappointment. Callers have a lot to weigh in on regarding Purdue. Calls range from Painter acquiring some more athletic players in the coming seasons, to questions about Painter's ability to compete in the world of NIL. Does being able to develop players really matter in a world where they can just choose to leave for more money the next season?

(1:14:01 - 1:28:53) - Jake debuts his pick for a Sweet Sixteen matchup by putting on a shirt from that college. He predicts an Arkansas victory over UConn tonight. Kevin and Query go over all the possible matchups with some banter on who they predict will be making an Elite Eight appearance. San Diego State has been a surprise this season holding both their opponents in the tournament to season lows in scoring. The Fairleigh Dickinson head-coach has stated in the past the Notre Dame is his dream job, after the Purdue upset is that more of a reasonable idea? Query believes that UMBC's upset victory was still a bigger surprise than Fairleigh Dickinson's upset over the Boilermakers. Talk returns to the Hoosiers and how their players just fell flat on every opportunity against Miami.

(1:28:54 - 1:32:32) - Touch and go segments teasing the upcoming interview with Bob Kravitz and updates on Kevin and Query's brackets.

(1:32:33 - 2:03:27) - Bob Kravitz of The Athletic joins the program to talk about the NCAA Tournament Action. Kravitz predicted that IU would be in the tournament longer than Purdue, but didn't think that Fairleigh Dickinson would be the ones to send them packing. Kravitz thinks that Purdue needs guards in order to become a team that can compete outside of just the Big Ten. He is confident that Matt Painter will become a dominant coach at some point but needs to re-evaluate his recruiting to get there. Query transitions to IU talk and asks Kravitz what the Hoosiers will need to do in order to compete next season. Kravitz says the answer is the transfer portal. Freshman won't solve the problem IU is facing, so transfers are going to be the only way to continue their competitive streak. Kevin wants to know Bob's thoughts on Colts free agency. Kravitz is interested in the fact that Indianapolis spent so much on a kicker, which there is value in since so many NFL games come down to 3 points now.

(2:03:28 - 2:12:08) - Pop Quiz

(2:12:09 - 2:19:17) - Closing talk, warm weather coming up in the week, St. Patrick's Day recap. Which college basketball coaches are up for grabs after this season concludes?
