Show Notes
(00:00 - 27:38) - Kevin Bowen is out on this Friday edition of Kevin & Query as he is taking an early Father's Day weekend. Marc Dycton slides over to the host seat and joins Jake Query in talking sports on The Fan. Jake begins by teasing Marc about a mega gas station that is moving in to Whitestown, Indiana.....Wally's a competitor to Buccee's. Indiana is about to have a gas station turf war with Wally's and Wawa coming to town in the near future. Sports talk begins around the Colt's OTAs wrapping up. Do players take it easy just before training camp and recover, or do you begin a personal training program to be at peak performance before training camp? Query believes that a player's position within the organization or experience within the league may determine what they choose to do as rookies would be more likely to train harder. Pacer's President of Basketball Operations Kevin Pritchard reportedly ate with Kansas small forward/shooting guard after his workout with the team.
(27:39 - 33:24) - Morning Checkdown
(33:25 - 42:22) - The first segment comes to a close with return to Jonathan Taylor trade talk. Jake ponders if it is time to trade in Taylor for future pieces in the draft, or if he is someone they could keep around at a lighter pay grade given the current free agent market around running backs. The running back position is very undervalued in today's NFL. Jake could not even name the leading rusher in the NFL last season.
(42:23 - 1:08:26) - Greg Rakestraw kicks off the eight o'clock hour and picks up the Jonathan Taylor conversation. Rakestraw thinks that Taylor is looking at a short-term contract no matter where he goes. No NFL team is in a position to offer running backs anything longer than three years and even that is stretching it for a back in the current NFL landscape. Taylor's best bet is likely to stay with the Colts as Indianapolis has a bit more money to throw around given their current quarterback situation. Jake wants to know where the Colts have the greatest amount of depth and wealth, Rakestraw responds with a potential surprising answer of the Tight-End position. The biggest question going into training camp is who the quarterback for the Colts will be going into week 1 of the regular season. Everything about first-round draft pick Anthony Richardson seems right for him to have the start on week 1, but when the bright lights are on will he be ready? Rakestraw winds down the conversation by talking about the IHSAA boys state finals in baseball later on tonight.
(1:08:27 - 1:26:33) - From one guest into another as Dustin Dopirak of the Indy Star calls in to the program. Jake begins by issuing a formal apology for mispronouncing his name for the 30th time. The guys want to know if there is any truth to the report that Kevin Pritchard and Gradey Dick got dinner after his workout with the Pacers last night. Dopirak says it is entirely possible, especially since Dick was the only player in the workout last night. The situation might be different if it was a full 6-7 player event, but with just one player the session likely had a more personal feel. According to Dopirak, Gradey Dick is a player that could fit well within the Pacers organization especially as a wing shooter. He could be a bench player that fits into Buddy Hield's role if Hield ever were traded or did not re-sign with the team. Finally, Marc poses the ever-important question to Dopirak, who will the Pacers select with their first pick in the 2023 NBA Draft?
(1:26:34 - 1:30:07) - Pat Sajak is stepping down as the host of Wheel of Fortune, who will replace him as host and will it be a former sports star? The guys are going to talk more about it at the top of the hour.
(1:30:08 - 1:59:01) - Marc and Jake give their picks for sports themed replacement hosts for Wheel of Fortune after Pat Sajak steps down. What former Hoosier sports stars could potentially stand behind the wheel? How much has Jeff Saturday's interim head-coach stint with the Colts hurt his likeability? No one has heard from him since he didn't get the head coaching position, except for a tweet of him on a boat. A bit of breaking news mid segment, former Indiana Pacer Mike Dunleavy Jr. reportedly has been named the new General Manager of the Golden State Warriors. What about if Shaq or Charles Barkley hosted Wheel of Fortune?(1:59:02 - 2:05:27) - Pop Quiz
(2:05:28 - 2:18:40) - Jake wants people's opinions on the best of four songs, more Wheel of Fortune host suggestions, and more Wally's vs. Buc-ee's talk. Jonathan Taylor contract negotiations to close out the episode.
