Show Notes

Season 6, Episode 8. Let's talk about how to get mental health support when living abroad.

One great thing about living in Germany is the health care - for many reasons, but notably, most public health insurances cover mental health therapy. It's a wonderful thing, but like all things in Germany, there is a lot of paperwork and bureaucracy required to find a therapist, get the therapy approved, and start the actual process.

Today's guest, Julian, is from Venezuela and has been living in Germany for 5 years. In 2020, he hit a point where he needed help. He began his journey to find a therapist in his current home, Berlin. He shares why he decided to seek therapy and why it has been so valuable, over a year later. Most importantly, we get into HOW to seek therapy, from where to research doctors to who needs to sign off on the treatment and more.

This episode is sponsored by BetterHelp. If your insurance doesn't cover therapy or you'd prefer to have more options when choosing your therapist, BetterHelp is a fantastic alternative to going through the German healthcare system.
