2021年，加拿大西部英屬哥倫比亞省遭到熱浪襲擊，一位養蜂人發現蜂箱裡有死狀甚慘的「雄蜂」。
研究人員發現，熱浪侵襲下，蜜蜂因熱休克而死，死前身體的某種機制讓它們強制射精、生殖器爆開而露出體外。
研究人員與蜂場主人開始研究解決的方法。
其中一個方法是在蜂箱附近設置「糖水補給站」，在天氣熱時蜜蜂會取水進蜂巢，並且拍動翅膀幫助降溫。
