Session 240: Psychic Watchdogs and Post-Dated Perks

Welcome to the cosmic lounge. Today we’re breaking down the vibes from Session 240 of The Early Sessions Book 6 of the Seth Material, recorded on the evening of March 9, 1966. Grab a drink and settle in, because Seth is about to explain why your physical body is basically just a home base and your ego is the grumpy dog guarding the porch.

The Mechanics of "Seeing" Without Eyes

Seth kicks things off by getting into the heavy stuff—how we perceive things that aren't right in front of our faces. Whether it’s telepathy or precognition, Seth argues it’s all the same thing: the mind bypassing the usual "Recognized Sense Systems."

  • The Ego Watchdog: Seth describes the physical body as a "home station." He notes: "The ego is much more dependent upon the physical self than are other portions of the personality. The physical body is more like a home station, from which frequent excursions are made. The ego is like a guardian who is left at home, as watchdog."
  • Time is a Illusion (Man): The only reason we think clairvoyance is weird is because we’re obsessed with the "concept of continual moments." Seth says we actually help construct the events we see in the future just as much as we construct the present.
  • Direct Data Downloads: Much of the info our inner self grabs never even hits our physical brain. It gets stored in "deeper layers of the self" until we actually need it.

High-Key Trance Vibes

During this session, Robert (Joseph) and Jane (Ruburt) were feeling some serious physical side effects. It wasn't just "spooky," it was a whole mood.

  • The Thrill of it All: Robert experienced a "rich tingling or thrilling" sensation that started in his feet and moved up to his head. Seth later confirmed this was Joseph sensing Seth's presence "rather strongly."
  • Feature Swapping: Jane had a subjective feeling that her features were changing—specifically that her chin was elongating into a point. While Rob didn't see it this time, they’ve seen it happen before.
  • Light Trance Lethargy: Robert felt a heavy "lassitude" (that’s fancy for being super tired) but noticed everything in the room seemed to be in "sharper focus" with more light.

The AAA Membership Card Caper

The 39th envelope experiment was a total riot. The object was Robert’s old AAA membership card. Seth and Jane managed to pull some wild details out of the ether:

  • The Big X: Jane visualised a large "X-shape" in a dark color. It turns out the card was expired (canceled) in 1965.
  • The "Grace" Connection: Seth mentioned something to do with "grace." Jane realized the old address on the card was "Church Street," and there was a "Grace Episcopal Church" just two blocks away. Talk about a psychic pun.
  • Music and Errors: Seth picked up on "music" and an "error." Robert had heard piped-in music at the AAA office (which he hated) and had made a literal error on his license number when filling out the form.

A Literal "Pain in the Neck"

Before the session started, Robert had a nasty stiff neck. He used a pendulum to check the cause, and Seth called him out on it immediately.

  • Psychosomatic Roast: Seth told Robert the pain was because he was annoyed with the "poor test results" from a previous session. Seth joked that Robert thought his own experiments were a "pain in the neck," and his body took him literally.
