Cosmic Rewriting: Seth on How Your "Now" Changes Your "Then"
Welcome back to the cosmic lounge, where we’re diving into the deep end of reality. Today, we’re unpacking Session 224 from The Early Sessions Book 5 of the Seth Material, recorded on the evening of January 17, 1966. Grab a drink, get comfortable, and prepare to have your linear sense of time gently melted.
The Time-Bending Vibes
In this session, Seth—the "energy personality essence" channeled by Jane Roberts—basically tells us that our calendars are a bit of a joke. He’s not just saying the past is a memory; he’s saying it’s a living, breathing, and editable document.
- The Past is an Electromagnetic Play-Doh: Seth explains that the past isn’t some dusty book on a shelf. It exists as electromagnetic connections in both the physical brain and the non-physical mind. Because these connections are "real" in the same way the present is, they can be changed.
- You’re a Time-Editor: Every time you change your attitude or make a new association today, you are actually reaching back and rearranging the past. It’s not symbolic; it’s a literal recreation.
- The Ego is a Gatekeeper: Our egos find the idea of simultaneous time "extremely distracting and annoying." To keep us from losing our minds, the ego screens out the fact that we are constantly reacting to future events that haven't even "happened" yet.
- Probabilities are the Name of the Game: Seth mentions a couple Jane and Rob saw at York Beach who looked just like them. He reveals they were a "time projection"—a version of what they could have become. They saw a probable future, reacted to it, and essentially "opted out" of that timeline.
Chilling Insights from the Session
Seth really went out on a limb here, offering some mind-flipping quotes to illustrate how fluid our lives actually are:
- "The past is no more objective, no more independent from the perceiver, than is the present."
- "Ripples from a thrown stone go out in all directions... it is more than possible to react in the past to an event that has not yet occurred, to be influenced by your own future."
- "The past itself is being continually recreated by every individual, as attitudes and associations change. This is an actual recreation, and not a symbolic one."
- "No event is destined to occur, and it can be changed, not only before and during, but after its occurrence."
The Psychic "Envelope" Game
The session wasn't just heavy theory; it included some cool psychic detective work. Rob gave Jane a sealed envelope containing a wallet ID card from a guy named Jim Birch. Seth (through Jane) managed to pick up:
- Visions of an outdoor party near water with Gothic buildings.
- The smell of flowers and the "tumult" of traffic noise, which Rob and Jane later realized were specific emotional "charges" tied to the house where the card was found.
- The fact that the card was originally carried next to a black-and-white photo—a detail Seth nailed.
