Session 221: Time Loops, Ghost Houses, and Psychic Growing Pains

Welcome to the cosmic breakdown of Session 221 from The Early Sessions Book 5 of the Seth Material, recorded on January 10, 1966. If you’ve ever felt like your life is a series of "deja-vu" glitches or that you're accidentally psychic, grab a coffee and get comfortable. We’re about to dive into the deep end of the reality pool.

The Great Time Slinky

Seth kicks things off by basically telling us our watches are fancy lies. Forget the "steady progression" of seconds; time is much more chaotic and cool than that. It’s not a straight line; it’s an explosion that also implodes.

  • The Spacious Now: Seth explains that past, present, and future all hang out together in one big "spacious now."
  • Time Inversion: If time speeds ahead, it has to speed backward too. Energy moves in all directions from its core.
  • Rewriting the Past: Since time isn’t a one-way street, present actions can actually alter the past. As Seth puts it: "In essence you see the past can be changed. Present actions can change future events that would otherwise occur. But when this is admitted, then we must admit also that present events can alter the past."

Your Childhood Home is a Mirage

Seth uses a childhood home as an example of how we "create" reality. That old house you grew up in? It wasn't a static object. It was a "conglomeration of atoms and molecules" that every person perceived differently.

  • Subjective Construction: Each observer literally creates their own version of an object based on subconscious energy and personal judgment.
  • Artificial Collections: The year 1943 was just an "artificial collection of events loosely agreed upon."
  • Limited Perception: The past is just as real as the present, but our "perception goggles" are just a bit too foggy to see it.

The Emerging "Super" Self

Seth discusses "psychological structures"—basically the frameworks that allow energy to view itself. Apparently, we are all in the process of "leveling up" our identities.

  • Layered Selves: We build "layered selves" that eventually pool their powers into a "gestalt" identity.
  • The Observer: You might notice a "self" that observes your ordinary self. This version of you has a better handle on time and more control over your physical image.
  • Growing Taller: To see the system you’re in, you have to grow out of it. Seth notes: "You could not scale the wall, so to speak. You had to grow taller, if you will forgive me for using another analogy."

Lab Results: Pigeons and Pin Cushions

The session gets into the nitty-gritty of ESP tests with Dr. Instream and a "pigeon" drawing. While Jane (Ruburt) had some hits, she also got tangled in personal associations.

  • The Emotional Key: For psychic hits to work, objects should have emotional significance. Seth identified an "apple-shaped" pin cushion for Dr. Instream.
  • Fear as a Block: Dr. Instream’s fear of failing to repeat a success was actually sabotaging the results.
  • The Learning Curve: Jane felt some strain during the tests, but Seth was encouraging, saying: "Contrary to popular thought, while everyone has so-called psychic abilities, they must be trained in specific areas of accomplishment. This is what we are doing."
