Session 210, November 22, 1965: Spiritual Health Checks and Test Anxiety
This session is a fascinating mix of heavy health insights, psychological "blocks," and Seth acting like a supportive (but firm) professor grading Jane’s homework.
The Guest List and the "Inner Climate"
The evening started with a brief visit from their landlady, Marian, and her friend, Helen. Though they left before the session officially kicked off, Seth—being the multidimensional entity he is—was already "following" them. He picked up some pretty intense data on Helen, whose husband had recently passed away.
- The Health Reading: Seth identified a potential "incipient malignancy" in Helen’s abdomen. But here’s the "chilling" part: it wasn’t a done deal. Seth explained that her "inner climate" would decide the outcome.
- The Power of Choice: Seth noted, "I say incipient because the condition is momentarily at a point where it can develop... or the condition... can retreat and shrink, and entirely disappear, according to the inner climate of the woman’s psyche."
- A Thin Line: He emphasized that Helen was "balanced on a thin line of normalcy," and that despair or self-destructive tendencies could flip the switch toward illness.
- The Takeaway: Our subconscious is the ultimate CEO of our biology. Seth didn't even want this info passed on to Helen because "negative suggestion" might actually cause the problem they were trying to avoid.
Why Jane (Ruburt) Likes a Crowd
Ever wonder why some psychics love an audience while others want total silence? Seth broke down Jane’s (Ruburt’s) development:
- Laboratory Experience: Jane actually enjoys having visitors. It provides a "direct laboratory experience" that helps her distinguish between valid perceptions and subjective noise.
- Emotional Fuel: At her stage of development, she uses the emotional energy of guests as "additional energy in transmission."
- The Balance: Seth admitted that while guests are great for practice, he gets a bit "impatient" when too many people show up because he wants to get back to the "primary material" they cover when they are alone.
The "Failing Grade" on the Envelope Test
Now for the funny part—even cosmic entities and their mediums have "off" days. Joseph (Rob) tried to sneak in an envelope test (the insurance slip for Jane’s ESP book), and let’s just say Jane didn't exactly nail it. She started seeing photographs of herself in trees and picnic tables instead.
- The Diagnosis of a Fail: Seth explained that the test was a flop for two big reasons:
- Confidence Issues: Joseph gave the envelope test before the "Instream material." Seth noted, "If the results are poor, this undermines Ruburt’s confidence for the following tests."
- Emotional Shock: Jane was secretly rattled by the malignancy info she’d just channeled about Helen. To protect herself from more "heavy" info, she retreated into her personal subconscious, digging up old memories (the photos) instead of the actual test object.
- Seth’s Critique: "He [Jane] was shocked by the earlier information... and this led him to block further information for the evening."
Class Dismissed: The Holiday Break
Seth wrapped up the night with some classic humor, essentially telling Rob and Jane they’d earned a vacation.
- Holiday Vibes: Seth announced, "We are going to give you the week of Christmas off, for all students have a holiday sometime. We may even give you a report card."
- Average Scores: He joked that tonight’s poor test performance wouldn't pull Jane’s "average" down too far.
