Session 199, October 18, 1965: Psychic Radios and Dental Dramas: A Chill Look

The Great Radio Shock and Therapeutic Dreams

Ruburt had been busy in the dream world, testing out Seth's theories on self-suggestion. It turns out, your inner self is a pretty high-tech broadcaster.

  • The Voice Squad: In his first dream, Ruburt heard four clear male voices. Three were past-life besties, and the fourth was Seth himself. They were trying to boost his confidence, but Ruburt got spooked.
  • The Cosmic Radio: To cope with the "realness" of the experience, Ruburt’s ego turned the voices into a radio broadcast. He tried to turn the radio off, but got a "severe and sudden shock."
  • The Meaning: Seth explained: "The shock is his knowledge that our material would cease were he to shut off his abilities in such a manner." Basically, you can't just unplug the universe when things get weird.
  • The Electric Storm: Eventually, Ruburt realized he was part of an "electric storm" that wasn't destructive, but creative. This realization led to a second dream about endless rooms representing "psychic areas of development."

Spying on Puerto Rico (For Science!)

Seth decided to play psychic detective and check in on their friends, Bill and Peggy, who were vacationing in Puerto Rico.

  • The Sightseeing: Seth picked up on a pink stucco building with round porch enclosures, iron grillwork, and someone selling newspapers outside.
  • The Vibe: He mentioned a striped awning and a dinner that cost $3.75. He even caught them thinking about a place that sounded like "Sumatra" but wasn't.
  • The Warning: Seth jokingly wagged a finger at Rob for trying to guess the details himself: "Ruburt was correct, Joseph. You should not have given your impressions." Don't quit your day job, Rob!

Dr. Instream and the Intellectual Snag

Seth also tuned in to Dr. Instream at the University of Oswego. Apparently, the good doctor was being a bit too "heady."

  • The Advice: Seth suggested the doctor should think of them emotionally rather than just intellectually. He even joked: "If he were to call me an old faker, I should get him more quickly."
  • The Experiment: Seth noted that Instream’s hypnosis experiments were hitting a "snag," possibly involving a locket and some conditioned reflexes.

The Dental Envelope Test

Rob handed over a sealed envelope containing a dental appointment card from May 5th. Seth absolutely nailed the details through the paper.

  • The "Turnabout": Seth called the card a "turnabout," referring to the fact that Jane actually made this appointment voluntarily.
  • The Yellow Shift: He picked up on the color yellow—Jane vividly remembered wearing a bright yellow dress to that specific appointment.
  • The Dead Dog: Seth mentioned "death of a dog," which hit home because Jane’s dog, Mischa, died right around the time of her previous (and much more painful) dental visit.

Sneezegate: Rob’s Panic Reaction

Before the session started, Rob had a massive sneezing fit that made him angry. Seth, being the ultimate psychic therapist, called him out.

  • The Guilt Trip: Rob felt subconsciously responsible for "pushing" Jane into her psychic development, especially after her dream about the radio shock.
  • The Diagnosis: Seth reassured him: "The sneezing was a panic reaction." He told Rob to relax because Ruburt has grown "intellectually, emotionally, and psychically" from the sessions. No need for the "fine sniffler" to feel guilty.
