The Seth Vibes: Healing, Healthy Snacking, and Psychic Homework (Session 185)
Welcome to the breakdown of Session 185 from The Early Sessions: Book 4 of the Seth Material, recorded on September 6, 1965. It was a holiday Monday, and while most people were probably flipping burgers, Jane Roberts (Ruburt) and Rob Butts (Joseph) were busy getting a cosmic download on how to keep their physical and psychic pipes from getting "clogged."
The "Heal Thyself" Mechanism
Seth kicked things off by diving into the world of healing. Apparently, we all have a built-in "self-correcting mechanism" that’s naturally protective. The catch? Our egos are usually the ones throwing a wrench in the gears.
- Ego Check: Seth notes that when the ego is resilient, the healing mechanism works automatically. When the ego gets too rigid, it "clogs the works."
- The Power of Suggestion: Rob was suffering from hay fever during the session, and Seth basically told his hay fever to take a hike, promising his head would be clear for the rest of the evening.
- Healing the Race: To really get these inner abilities firing, you need more than just curiosity. You need a "strong, positive and definite desire to benefit the race of man." It’s about that emotional and intellectual combo meal.
The Cosmic Diet and Lifestyle Guide
Seth wasn't just about the "woo-woo" stuff; he gave some very practical (and slightly calling-out) advice on how Jane and Rob were living.
- Less Grease, More Greens: Seth suggested simplifying their meals. Specifically: fewer fried foods, less fatty meat, and way more fresh fruits and vegetables.
- Snack Strategy: Forget the "three big squares." Seth recommends small, frequent meals.
- Coffee and Cigs: Jane got a bit of a reality check. Seth suggested capping the coffee at five cups a day and trying to dial back the cigarettes from fifteen to ten.
- Get Moving: They were told to keep up the isometrics, adopt specific Eastern exercises daily, and take "systematic" walks where they actually feel like a part of the environment instead of just passing through it.
The Envelope Test: Seeing Through Paper
Rob decided to sneak a test into the session by dropping a double envelope containing a 1959 photo of his brother Bill and family into Jane’s lap while she was mid-trance.
- The Hits: Seth/Jane picked up parallel lines (the wooden wall in the photo), the "afternoon" vibe, and "pyramid shapes" (which Rob later realized were the shadows on the snow and the shape of the baby's blanket).
- The Misses: Jane saw three people instead of four. Seth explained that the baby didn’t come through clearly because of a lack of contrast (white blanket on white snow—classic psychic camouflage).
- The "Why": These tests aren't just for fun; they’re training Jane to be more precise with verbal information since Seth can’t give her a direct visual image during these tests yet.
Wisdom in Quotes
- "It is the ego in many cases who clogs the works, so to speak."
- "There is a large difference between a general state that is free of disease and a state of exuberant health, in which the inner and outer selves are perfectly attuned."
- "You are indeed to a large extent what you eat. You are bound up in the cycle of earth relationships."
