Session 172: Bass Voices and Dream Realities
Welcome to a look into the cosmic archives. We are diving into Session 172 from The Early Sessions, Book 4 of the Seth Material, recorded on the night of July 26, 1965. Grab a drink, settle in, and let’s talk about the night Seth decided to flex his vocal cords and drop some knowledge on the dream world.
The Vibe Check: Bass-Boosted Seth
This session had a unique energy. Jane Roberts opened the evening with a voice that was surprisingly deep—we’re talking almost bass-level vibrant. Seth was in what the notes call a "jocular mood," basically feeling himself and having a good time with the witnesses present, Lorraine (Marleno) and Bill (Mark).
- The Voice: While Seth promised not to blow the roof off with "massive voice displays," he couldn't help but sound like a "bird trying out its new wings."
- The "Grandfather Frog" Energy: By the end of the night, Seth jokingly described his own vocal performance: "And if I do not sound like a nightingale, it may be said that I speak in tones not quite as bad as a grandfather frog."
Leveling Up: The Doorbell Interruption
In the early days, interrupting Jane mid-trance was like dousing her with ice water—painful and jarring. But by Session 172, Jane showed some serious growth. When a random person knocked on the door looking for another apartment, Jane popped out of trance, handled the business, walked back to her chair, and was back in the "Seth-zone" before she even sat down.
Seth noted this evolution:
"Ruburt will find that he is able to return to himself almost automatically. In some circumstances this will serve us both very well."
The Roadmap: Dreams, Health, and Therapy
Seth wasn't just there for the jokes; he laid out a heavy-hitting agenda for the upcoming sessions. He’s moving the class into "Practical Magic" territory.
- Dream Universe: A deep dive into how personality operates within dream reality.
- The Healing Connection: Seth revealed plans to discuss health and therapy in relation to the dream universe, which he called "most significant."
- Practical Advantages: He promised to show the group how to use the dream situation for their own advantage in daily life.
- Action: A continued study of the nature of "action" as a fundamental force that can't be subdivided.
Seth’s "No-Wing" Policy
Lorraine asked some questions before the session that prompted Seth to clarify his identity. If you were looking for a Hallmark-style guardian angel, Seth is going to disappoint you.
- No Flapping Allowed: Seth told Lorraine: "I am, Marleno, no guardian angel. I do not flap my wings. I have no wings to flap."
- Healthy Boundaries: He’s interested in his friends, but he’s not a creeper. As he put it: "I do not walk ghostily through your rooms; and most certainly I do not peek through the windows."
- Past Life Connections: He hinted that the people drawn to these sessions (like Bill and Lorraine) are there for a reason, often involving past-life ties, though they weren't quite ready for the full explanation yet.
