Cosmic Reality Check: Insights from Seth Session 162
Grab a drink, lean back, and let’s vibe with some high-level metaphysics. We’re diving into Session 162 from The Early Sessions, Book 4 of the Seth Material, recorded on June 14, 1965. This session featured Jane Roberts (whom Seth calls Ruburt) rocking out in her favorite Kennedy rocker while delivering a fast-paced masterclass to a living room full of witnesses.
Seth was in a particularly chatty mood, even sporting a bit of an Irish brogue, as he broke down why our bodies act up and why your dreams are just as "real" as that sandwich you had for lunch.
The Body is a Mirror (And Sometimes a Glitch)
Seth doesn't pull punches—he basically says your physical health is a direct reflection of your inner headspace. If you’ve got a stiff neck or a cranky ulcer, your subconscious is just manifesting your inner "neuroses."
- Mind-Body Construction: You create physical matter subconsciously just as easily as you dream. As Seth puts it: "You create physical matter as effortlessly and as smoothly and as automatically, and as unknowingly as you create your own dreams."
- The Responsibility Factor: You are exactly what you think you are. If you hold onto distorted concepts, they flow into "false disruptive patterns" like an ulcer.
- The Healing Hack: To fix a physical condition, the change has to come from within. By searching the inner self for answers, you actually start to "starve" the ailment of the energy you’ve been feeding it.
Dream Real Estate is Valid
Ever wonder where you actually go in a dream? Seth argues that dream locations aren't just "inside your head" (your skull is too small for all those miles of dream-streets, anyway).
- Defining Consciousness: Seth’s classic definition is simple: "Consciousness is the direction in which the self looks." In sleep, you just point your attention toward the dream universe.
- Dream Permanence: The dream universe is just as permanent and molecularly real as the physical one; the ego just isn't "tuned in" to that frequency while you’re awake.
- Time Travel Lite: In a dream, you can experience hours in a flash of physical time because you’re closer to a reality that doesn't care about clocks or space.
The Ego Sandwich: Layers of the Self
Seth explains that the "you" you know (the outer ego) is just the tip of the iceberg. Behind it sits a massive, layered subconscious.
- The Layers: There are personal layers, past-life layers, and even a "species" layer containing the history of humanity.
- The Inner Ego: At the very center is the "inner ego," which looks inward toward the source of action, while your outer ego looks at the physical world.
- Multiple Ruburts: In a wild twist, Seth points out that because every person projects their own version of reality, there were actually five different physical "Ruburts" in the room—one for each person’s perception.
Action and the "Camouflage" Universe
Everything—a breath, a thought, a dream—is "Action." Our physical world is just a specific type of "camouflage" that Action uses to express itself.
- Inner Senses: To see the real truth, you have to switch from outer senses to inner senses. The outer ones are only equipped to see the physical "distortion."
- No Boundaries: The self isn't trapped in your bones. You're constantly exchanging chemicals and energy with the environment. You are much more than you know.
