Late-Night Vibes and Cosmic Ulcers: A Deep Dive into Seth Session 158
Welcome to the cosmic lounge. Tonight, we’re unpacking a particularly spirited gathering from Session 158 of The Early Sessions, Book 4 of the Seth Material, recorded on the late night of May 30, 1965. Grab a snack and get comfortable, because Seth was in a rare, boisterous, and frankly hilarious mood.
The Scene: Cold Medicine and Ghostly Priests
The night started with Jane Roberts dealing with a heavy cold, but that didn't stop the psychic energy from flowing. Before Seth even showed up, Jane spontaneously channeled a deceased Irish priest, Father Trainor, reading poetry with a powerful, booming brogue. This set the stage for an unscheduled session that was anything but "sedate."
Key Insights from the Session
- The Ulcer Chronicles: A visitor, Bill Gallagher (whom Seth called "Manuk"), was suffering from an ulcer. Seth didn't just suggest antacids; he went deep into the 14th, 17th, and 18th centuries. He explained that Bill’s current physical issues were the result of "a most complicated network of emotional involvement" involving past-life family dynamics.
- Action is Never Static: Seth dropped a heavy philosophical nugget about the nature of action. He noted that Jane’s channeling of Father Trainor actually changed the priest's personality too. As Seth put it: "His personality... was of necessity changed by this communication in the same manner that any experience will always change any personality."
- The "Potbellied Buddha" Disclaimer: Seth got a bit spicy about how people perceive him. He made it very clear he isn't some spooky graveyard ghost.
- Seth’s Take: "I am no misty... potbellied Buddha image, nor indeed any manifestation of your conception of a ghostly spirit that drifts in out of the night."
- Gender-Bending History: In a classic Seth move, he revealed that Bill had been an "extremely intelligent female of high standing" in two past lives, while his wife Peg had previously been male. It seems the universe loves a good role reversal.
- The Creativity of Dependency: Seth offered a unique take on ulcers and personality. He argued that "dependent feelings" are often misunderstood as weakness, when they are actually a form of "passive creativity" that leads to aggressive manifestation.
- The Great Voice Blast of 1965: To prove he wasn't limited by Jane's sore throat or the late hour, Seth performed a "spectacular voice display." He went from a whisper to a volume so loud Joseph (Jane's husband) was worried the neighbors would call the cops. Seth joked: "I could indeed blow apart the rooftops, in theory, if I so chose."
- Badgering Ruburt: Seth spent a good chunk of time jokingly "badgering" Jane (whom he calls Ruburt) for her constant self-doubt. He found it hilarious that she worried about her sanity while he was busy proving the far-reaching consequences of their work.
Why This Matters
This session serves as a reminder that the "spirit world" isn't all gloom and doom—sometimes it’s loud, funny, and incredibly insightful about our health and history.
