Session 154: Hearing with Your Elbow and the Quantum Automobile

Welcome back, cosmic travelers. Grab a comfortable chair, kick off your shoes, and let’s dive into some seriously mind-bending vibes. Today, we’re looking at Session 154 of The Early Sessions, Book 4 of the Seth Material, recorded on May 12, 1965. Seth is in a particularly chatty mood, and the insights are enough to make your ego do a double-take.

The "Good State" and Skin-Deep Hearing

The session kicks off with Jane (or Ruburt, as Seth calls her) playing around with "psychological time." She’s experiencing what she calls her “good state”—a tingling, singing sensation that basically makes her feel like she’s about to turn into pure energy and float away. Seth uses this as a jumping-off point to explain that our bodies are way more capable than we give them credit for.

  • Generalized Perception: Seth argues that while we use eyes for seeing and ears for hearing, the physical body actually has the potential to perceive stimuli through any part of its expanse.
  • The Learning Curve: We’ve basically been "conditioned" by our ego to use specific organs for specific data. It’s a habit we’ve clung to, but it’s not the only way to play the game.
  • Animal Superpowers: Seth points out that some animals are already ahead of the curve. Many literally "see" through the sense of smell, building a structural image of an object—size, weight, and all—just by sniffing the air.
  • A Key Quote on Potential: "the potentials of the physical body include the capacity to hear, for example, through any given portion of the bodily expanse."

The Multidimensional Commute

Seth then moves into one of his favorite analogies: the automobile. He uses it to explain that what we see as a solid, singular object is actually a multifaceted reality existing in several systems at once.

  • Perspective is Everything: To us, a car is a physical object. To an electrical system, it’s an entirely different phenomenon. In some systems, that same car might look like a shadow, or it might only be visible if it’s moving (or not moving).
  • Distortion as Creation: The very act of perceiving something changes it. Seth explains that our senses "distort" reality into a form we can understand, and that distortion actually creates a new reality.
  • The Quantum Car Quote: "The nature of our object, our automobile for example, is indeed largely determined by those who perceive it, for it is different things in reality, and not one thing."

The Illusion of "Forever"

If you’re looking for stability, Seth has some news for you: it doesn’t exist. Action is always moving, always changing, and never identical to the action that came before.

  • Constant Flux: Any appearance of permanence is just a clever illusion. Everything is instantaneously changing, including the perceiver.
  • Inner Senses: While our outer senses give us the "camouflage" version of reality, the inner senses are "pure" perceptors that see the whole picture without prejudice.
  • The Final Word on Permanence: "Any action, any reality, irregardless, constantly and instantaneously changes. There are no exceptions to this rule. Any appearance of permanence is illusion."

Closing Notes and Housekeeping

Seth wraps things up with a little health advice for Jane (suggesting beef bouillon and protein to keep her energy up) and calls the sitters his "spring pigeons." How’s that for a chilling, humorous exit?
