Cosmic Backstage Pass: Insights from Session 153
Welcome to the cosmic deep-dive. We’re hanging out in the headspace of Session 153 of The Early Sessions, Book 4 of the Seth Material, recorded on the night of May 10, 1965. Grab a drink, get comfortable, and let’s talk about why your "inner ego" is basically the director of your life’s movie and why "tension" is actually the best thing you've got going for you.
Meet the "Unfamiliar I": The Inner Ego
Ever feel like there’s a version of you that’s way more experienced than the one trying to figure out which socks to wear? That’s the inner ego. According to Seth, while your outer ego is busy looking at the world, your inner ego is pulling the strings from the inside.
- The Ultimate Composite: The inner ego isn't just one "thing"; it’s formed from dominant characteristics and abilities developed through various past lives. It’s like a Greatest Hits album of your entity’s history.
- Action-Oriented: Unlike the outer ego, which likes to think it’s separate from everything else, the inner ego knows it is part of the action. It views itself subjectively and stays focused inward with the same intensity that you focus on your lunch.
- The Dream Director: This "Unfamiliar I" is the one doing the dreaming. It sends valuable intel through the subconscious to help the outer ego navigate reality.
- Creative Partners: The outer ego thrusts outward, and the inner ego pulls inward. They are two faces of the same sphere, maintaining a balance that keeps the whole self from flying apart.
Tension: The Secret Sauce of Existence
If you think tension is just what you feel before a dentist appointment, think again. In this session, Seth flips the script, explaining that tension is the very impulse that makes life happen.
- No Tension, No Reality: Tension is action’s inherent impulse to know itself. Seth puts it bluntly: "Without tension there would be no existence. Tension therefore is a creative state."
- Riding the Wave: Creation doesn’t happen at the peak of tension; it happens when the tension dissolves. Seth suggests we can learn to "ride it like the crest of a wave," using that exhilarating sensation to reach purposeful goals.
- The Nucleus: Think of the subconscious as a nucleus, with the inner and outer egos surrounding it. The "tensions" between these layers are what actually allow communication to happen.
The Beauty of Creative Distortion
Seth introduces a groovy concept called "Creative Distortion." Basically, nothing can ever be perfectly duplicated—and that’s a feature, not a bug.
- The Artist Analogy: An artist trying to paint a landscape can’t use actual mountains or physical eons of time. They create a "distortion" of the landscape. But here’s the kicker: that distortion is a brand-new reality.
- Telepathy Tweaks: This is why your thoughts never land exactly the same in someone else's head. "The thought received in telepathic communications will not, therefore, be the exact thought that was transmitted, but a close approximation, a creative distortion."
- Constant Change: The act of doing anything changes the doer. Even these sessions change everyone involved because action is always evolving.
Final Thoughts from the Session
Seth ended the night in "fine fettle," reminding everyone that boundaries between selves, entities, and systems are just functional illusions. Everything is blending, pulsing, and creating new realities through beautiful, distorted action.
