Session 141: The "Action" Movie of Your Soul
Welcome to the cosmic deep dive into Session 141 of The Early Sessions, Book 3 of the Seth Material, recorded on March 17, 1965. If you’re looking to have your reality shifted while keeping it casual, you’re in the right place. We’re dissecting the nature of action, identity, and why your ego is basically that one friend who hates when the group chat changes its name.
A Quick Telepathic Warm-Up
Before the session even kicked off, Robert Butts (Rob) had a bit of a "psychic flex." While Jane was out longer than expected, Rob felt an impulse to write down: “Jane is at the Piper’s. 6:45 PM.” Turns out, Jane had indeed made a last-minute detour to visit friends, confirming that telepathy isn't just for sci-fi—it's the background noise of our lives.
The Meat of the Session: Action and Identity
Seth wastes no time getting into the "Action." Forget everything you think you know about "things" and "people." In this session, everything is Action with a capital A.
- The Big Definition: Seth defines consciousness in the most chillingly simple way: "Consciousness is action that perceives itself." It’s not something you have; it’s something you are doing.
- The Ego’s Main Character Energy: The ego is described as action’s attempt to "stand off from itself." It wants stability, it resents change, and it tries to view action as an object. Seth compares the ego to a "small dam," trying to block out perceptions to keep things neat and tidy.
- No Past, No Future: In the realm of action, everything is simultaneous. The only reason we see a "past" or "future" is because of how our identities (especially that stubborn ego) filter the data.
The Self: A Shape-Shifting Gestalt
If you thought you were just one person, Seth has some news for you. The "self" isn't a rigid, indivisible box. It’s more like a vibe that keeps evolving.
- The Gestalt Vibe: A self is a "gestalt of action perception patterns." It’s a collection of ways of seeing that stick together through attraction.
- The Multi-Ego Universe: Hold onto your seats—Seth suggests a self can have more than one ego. You’ve got your outer ego, an inner ego, and even a "dream ego" that handles the construction of meaning in your sleep.
- The Open-Ended Reality: The boundaries of the self are arbitrary. Seth notes: "It is imperative that we move away from the concept of a self as an indivisible, rigid and limited reality."
Deep Insights and Seth’s Mic Drops
To illustrate these mind-bending points, here are a few choice cuts from the session:
- "Identity is a part of action, and basically inseparable from action. Identity attempts to form meaningful patterns and relationships from action."
- "Action, you may say, is carried away by itself. Reality possibilities are endless."
- "A consciousness is a gestalt of patterns of perception, by which action knows itself. But the patterns of perceptions may grow, and the consciousness reach out."
- "Part of the self knows, and knows that it knows. Part of the self knows, and does not know it knows."
Closing Thoughts
Seth wrapped up the night with a heavy dose of "we are all one" energy, reminding Rob and Jane (and us) that worrying about separate identities is a bit silly when everything is so bound together.
