Show Notes

Session 133 recorded February 17, 1965

The session notes revealed Jane Roberts's pretty wild physical phenomenon.

  • The Heat Resistance: Jane discovered a deep burn on her leg from a previous session where she propped her feet on a metal heater seat. She had absolutely no memory of it and felt zero pain during the trance.
  • Trance Sensitivity: This suggests that in her deeper trance states, Jane’s physical sensitivity to pain was significantly dialed down, allowing her to dictate even while literally getting "toasted" by the furniture.
  • The Voice: Jane started the session hoarse, but as Seth took the wheel, her voice deepened and strengthened, especially after an interruption by a neighbor.

The Ever-Moving Self

Seth kicks things off by reminding us that we are not finished products.

  • No Freeze Frames: The inner self, the entity, and even your ego are never stationary. We try to "freeze" them to understand them, but they are constantly in motion.
  • The Slippery Self: Seth notes: "As you cannot hold even the ego in the palm of your hand, so you cannot hold the inner self within the mind. They always escape in essence."
  • Evolutionary Flow: There is no "completion" date for your soul. You are a continuous stream of change.

The Electrical Universe and Vitality

Seth talks about the "Electrical Universe," which is basically the energetic scaffolding of our reality.

  • The Symbol of Reality: The electrical universe is real, but it’s also just a symbol for an even deeper reality that speech can't really touch.
  • Universal Vitality: There is a "vitality" behind everything—a force closer to you than your own breath.
  • Everything is One: Even though we experience different "universes," they are all interconnected through different densities of intensity.

Gestalts and the "Frog Logic"

Seth explains how we arbitrarily draw lines around things to make sense of them, but the universe doesn't care about our labels.

  • The Frog Analogy: Seth uses a great example: "A small frog for example may be more likely seen not as a frog isolated, but as one part of the pond in which he lives... it makes no difference to the frog.
  • Identity within Unity: Everything is conscious and self-aware. While we are all part of a massive "gestalt" (a complex whole), no individual identity is blurred or lost.
  • Arbitrary Boundaries: We decide where "A" ends and "B" begins, but the energy itself is indivisible.

The Ego as a Marketing Tool

Finally, Seth drops some truth bombs about the ego.

  • The Ego is a Symbol: It’s not a "thing" you can touch. It’s a symbol for the tiny portion of yourself that you allow your consciousness to see so you can handle physical life.
  • The "I" Illusion: "The ego then, is only part of a much larger self... you arbitrarily make a unit from a truly indivisible identity, and call this the 'I'."
  • Direct Experience: True knowledge isn't found in books (ironic, right?) but in direct experience. All the verbal explanations in the world are just "verbal dissections" that slightly distort the truth.

Closing Predictions

Seth ended the night with a "heads up" regarding Miss Callahan, an elderly neighbor, suggesting the couple keep an eye on her starting the following Thursday.
